As A. Best was indisposed he was replaced as per stewards summary.
Race 1: HANNAS DEPARTMENT STORE CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Redbolt 2nd – Secrets 3rd – Twigerre 4th – Falling Star
Track temperature: 18 degrees celsius
As N. Evans was unable to fulfil his engagement as the rider of RAPT IN RHYTHM due to time constaints from a previous meeting he was replaced by J. Warrington.
Stewards accepted the explanations of trainers G. Farrell (REDBOLT), and B. Currie (PROOF READER) for the late declaration of riders for those runners and no further action was taken.
FALLING STAR (J. Letherby) and SECRETS (G. Geran) were both slow to begin.
REDBOLT (S. Drake) began awkwardly.
PROOF READER (W. Doyle) overraced in the early stages.
When being steadied near the 800m REDBOLT raced ungenerously for a short distance and lost ground.
MILITARY WAY (S. Bogenhuber) raced wide for the majority of the event.
REDBOLT and TWIGERRE (K. Banks) were both held up for clear running from approaching the 400m until near the 300m.
Leaving the 200m PROOF READER brushed the running rail on a number of occasions when attempting a narrow run to the inside of SWIFT SANDS (N. Yamada).
SWIFT SANDS was crowded for room near the 100m by TWIGERRE, which was taken in by REDBOLT.
FALLING STAR hung in under pressure in the home straight.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of VINNIES JOY, jockey A. Taylor stated that the horse hung out for the majority of the event, proving difficult to ride. Connections of VINNIES JOY were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners and should the mare perform in a similar manner in its future starts, more direct action would be taken.
Race 2: VANDERFIELD CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Boss Hog 2nd – Sarcastically 3rd – Pioneer Way 4th – Polyrhythm
Track temperature: 14 degrees celsius
SET TO TRADE (S. Galvin) began awkwardly and shifted out resulting in its hind quarters making contact with the offside shoulder of VIETATO FUMARE (K. Banks), which was slow to begin, resulting in SET TO TRADE racing ungenerously for a short distance. Trainer J. Smith was advised that a warning would be placed on the manners of SET TO TRADE.
Both FIORELLO (R. Goltz) and MIDNIGHT CRISIS (M. Heagney) raced ungenerously approaching the 800m when being steadied and threw their head in the air.
VIETATO FUMARE and SUNDAY ADVICE (A.Taylor) raced wide for the majority of the event.
SARCASTICALLY (P. Wolfgram) was momentarily held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
A. Taylor, the rider of SUNDAY ADVICE, dropped her whip near the 300m.
BOSS HOG (S. Bogenhuber) shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.
Jockey J. Warrington, the rider of PIONEER WAY, was cautioned regarding his use of the whip prior to the 100m.
Race 3: RAY WHITE PITTSWORTH CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1500M
1st – Red Dawn 2nd – Waasies Shadow 3rd – Punto Vista 4th – Gumpert
Track temperature: 11 degrees celsius.
Stewards acceded to a request from trainer N. Hilton to allow apprentice J. Daley to claim only 2kg of her 3kg allowance on GUMPERT. A public announcement to this effect was made.
DIVINE CASH (S. Bogenhuber) and CHECK THE LEADER (M. O'Brien) were slow to begin.
Near the 1200m CHECK THE LEADER hung in and had to be steadied away from the heels of SEATUNE (W. Clasohm).
DIVINE CASH raced wide in the early stages.
Leaving the 900m FUSED (P. Wolfgram) shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so forced SEATUNE wider.
CHECK THE LEADER shifted out near the 800m and raced wide from that point onwards.
PUNTO VISTA (S. Drake) was held up for clear running and unable to improve from leaving the 500m until entering the home straight.
DIVINE CASH hung in rounding the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight.
Near the 100m BRIEF HAPPINESS (B. Thomson), which was tiring, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PUNTO VISTA, which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Race 4: SOUTH QUEENSLAND LAW MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Hayil King Dayl 2nd – I Don’t Remember 3rd – Watch The Show 4th – Frilly
Track temperature: 10 degrees celsius.
AUTHORITATIVE was a late scratching at 5.40 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on advice from the trainer that the horse had been injured when being loaded onto the float. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness for AUTHORITATIVE must be produced prior to its next race start.
MEDWIN (P. Wolfgram) and HOME JAMES (J. Letherby) made contact on jumping away as a result of both horses shifting ground.
FRILLY (J. Warrington) and I’LL BELT YA (B. Thomson) both began very awkwardly and shifted out tightening the running of LITTLE NUGAT (M. Abe). ROCK OF LINDY (J. Kehoe), which also began awkwardly, shifted in, resulting in I’LL BELT YA and LITTLE NUGAT being severely tightened by ROCK OF LINDY which became unbalanced and was unable to relieve the pressure due to WATCH THE SHOW (M. O'Brien) improving to its outside and shifting in slightly. As a result of this incident LITTLE NUGAT had to be checked and lost considerable ground. ROCK OF LINDY also lost ground in this incident. A post-race veterinary examination of LITTLE NUGAT revealed no abnormalities.
Approaching the 800m JOVIAL JOKE (A.Taylor) had to be steadied when crowded for room between EUREKA PEARLS (S. Bogenhuber) and HAYIL KING DAYL (K. Ashton).
WATCH THE SHOW, I DON'T REMEMBER (K. Banks) and ROCK OF LINDY both raced wide for the majority of the event.
EUREKA PEARLS shifted in under pressure, making contact with JOVIAL JOKE near the 100m.
Stewards questioned jockey J. Kehoe as to why he positioned ROCK OF LINDY wide throughout the event. Jockey Kehoe explained that in the early stages his mount appeared to resent the kickback from the track so he allowed the horse to raced wide throughout where it appeared to travel more comfortably. Stewards noted the explanation.
Apprentice S. Bogenhuber, the rider of EUREKA PEARLS, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) of striking her mount with the whip in a forehand manner on 8 occasions, 3 of which were in consecutive strides, prior to the 100m. Apprentice Bogenhuber was fined the sum of $200. In considering penalty, stewards took into account her previously good record under this rule.
Race 5: STONESTREETS COACHES QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
1st – G’Day Old Mate 2nd – Backstage Tycoon 3rd – Heathen Chemistry 4th – Emoticon
Track temperature: 10 degrees celsius.
The start was delayed when PROJECTS (M. O'Brien) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the manners of PROJECTS.
PROJECTS and SHOW US THE DIME (M. Heagney) were both slow to begin and made contact on jumping away when both horses shifted ground.
NO HOOPS (N. Yamada), WHISPRIAN (R. Goltz) and HEATHEN CHEMISTRY (A.Taylor) all raced wide for the majority of the event.
ASIDE (J. Letherby) had a tendency to hang out in the middle stages.
Near the 200m CRAFTY'S LAST (K. Ashton) was inclined to hang in.
Leaving the 200m HEATHEN CHEMISTRY shifted in under pressure making contact with CRAFTY'S LAST.
Race 6: GLENMAR FUELS CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1625M
1st – Moon Chaser 2nd – Aurtobe 3rd – Just A Touch 4th – Mother Russia
Track temperature: 8 degrees celsius.
FOREVER MORE (S. Drake) was slow to begin.
MARKANYON (S. Bogenhuber) and MOON CHASER (R. Goltz) overraced in the early and middle stages, and near the 1000m MARKANYON shifted out making contact with MOON CHASER which shifted wider on the track
MARKANYON was held up for clear running rounding the home turn until entering the home straight.
MOON CHASER was inclined to hang in under pressure over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted tonight on JUST A TOUCH, in particular the horse leading as opposed to its previous start, jockey N. Yamada stated that he was instructed to ride the horse in a similar fashion to its most recent start but to have the horse racing where comfortable. However, after beginning well, JUST A TOUCH commenced to race strongly and jockey Yamada was of the opinion that the horse may pull hard if he was to restrain it, so he elected to let the horse improve forward and in doing so was able to lead without being pressured and felt the horse travelled comfortably in that position. Trainer P. Sexton confirmed the instructions, however further advised stewards that it is the intention that JUST A TOUCH be ridden in a position off the pace, if circumstances permit, in its future starts. Stewards noted their explanations.
Race 7: STILLWATER PASTORAL COMPANY MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M
1st – Stoney Park 2nd – Golden Hut 3rd – Iron Hawk 4th – Merchant Girl
Track temperature: 8 degrees celsius.
Stewards accepted the reason from trainer R. Sullivan that due to a misunderstanding P. Wolfgram was a late declaration as the rider of ZEDZED.
COOPERS COMET (S. Egan), which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin.
GOLDEN HUT (R. Goltz) and IRON HAWK (S. Bogenhuber) overraced in the early stages.
Leaving the 400m ZEDZED (P. Wolfgram) shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the running rail.
