SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

Apprentice P. Schmidt was replaced by apprentice B. Looker on GAILWIN in race 3 and apprentice B. Richardson on PRINCE LIONHEART in race 8 as she had accepted engagements at both Toowoomba and Coff’s Harbour, both scheduled to race today. Apprentice Schmidt will be interviewed by stewards at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club at its meeting on 31 December.

Stewards will interview jockey D. Sparks regarding his inability to fulfil his engagement on PENGUIN SUITE in race 4. S. Bogenhuber was substituted as the rider of that gelding.

When questioned by stewards regarding the performance of ARGENTEUM, trainer Saunders expressed disappointment with the gelding’s effort, however he did add that it may not have appreciated the wetter than usual cushion track conditons. Mr Saunders also stated that after the meeting he had ARGENTEUM examined by a veterinarian, who did not detect any abnornormality, and stated that since the gelding had pulled up well and worked well in its trackwork. He further added that it was his intention to start ARGENTEUM in a race at Toowoomba on 1 January and expected a more forward showing from the gelding.




Race 1: The Last Stride Syndicate Maiden Plate – 850m
1st – Street Sister 2nd – Swet Sweet Love 3rd – Constant Craving 4th – Subspecies

Track temperature: 58 degrees celsius

The explanation tendered by trainer Mrs T. Wolfgram for the late declaration of P. Wolfgram as the rider for RANNECO was accepted.

SUBSPECIES (A. Best) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly at the start, crowding CONSTANT CRAVING (M. O'Brien), TYPHOON BLUE (J. Holder) and FLOWER BOWL (B. Richardson), all of which were steadied. Shortly after, THE BUDSTAR (B. Looker) shifted out away from FLOWER BOWL onto RANNECO (P. Wolfgram), which was checked.

MR PIN WA (J. Murphy) missed the start slightly and was then steadied when crowded by OTEKAH (B. Thomson), which shifted out slightly after jumping awkwardly.

Near the 750m, when racing towards the course proper, BRUSH CUTTER (J. Warrington) had to be steadied when crowded between STREET SISTER (J. Letherby) and SWEET SWEET LOVE (T. Fujinuma), both of which shifted ground slightly. For a short distance after this incident, BRUSH CUTTER was awkwardly placed at the heels of SWEET LOVE.

Passing the 450m, CONSTANT CRAVING (M. O'Brien) shifted out and bumped FLOWER BOWL (B. Richardson).

Race 2: Neil Mansell Transport Maiden Plate – 850m
1st – Red Raptor 2nd – Vaulting Queen 3rd – My Mountain Man 4th – Stromberg Gold

Track temperature: 61 degrees celsius

THE NAKED COWBOY (S. Egan) DIAMOND MISTRESS (B. Looker) were slowly away.

DO AS I COMMAND (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, CLOSE RANGE (P. Wolfgram) was steadied away from the heels of STRMBERG GOLD (T. Fujinuma), which shifted out away from PELLADANA (J. Murphy).

Near the 500m, STROMBERG GOLD (T. Fujinuma) was steadied away from the heels of VAULTING QUEEN (J. Warrington), which hung out away from MY MOUNTAIN MAN (M. O'Brien).

Passing the 300m, STROMBERG GOLD was steadied away from the heels of VAULTING QUEEN, which shifted out slightly.

When questioned regarding the performance of DO AS I COMMAND, trainer J. Dixon could offer no excuse for the disappointing effort as the gelding had worked extremely well in its trackwork leading up to today’s race. A post race veterinary examination of DO AS I COMMAND reavealed the gelding had a tendency to lock up in its off hindleg at a trot. Trainer Dixon undertook not to start the horse and an embargo will be placed on DO AS I COMMAND until further verterinary examinations are carried out, including having the horse undergo an endoscopic examination and blood tests, the results of which to be forwarded to stewards.

Race 3: XXXX Summer Ale Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Skytana 2nd – Leica Zip 3rd – Little Flute 4th – Dodging Eddie

Track temperature: 61 degrees celsius.

SILABELLA was declared a late scratching at 12 noon after the trainer reported that the mare had been injured when being loaded onto its float for transport to the course. Trainer M. Simpson was advised that she would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for SILABELLA prior to its next race start.

DODGING EDDIE (T. Fujinuma) was slowly away.

PEAK PERFORMANCE (J. Letherby) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, bumping GAILWIN (B. Looker). PEAK PERFORMANCE then shifted out and bumped LIFE TO THE MAX (J. Warrington) and lost ground.

Near the 800m, LITTLE FLUTE (R. Goltz) was eased away from the heels of SKYTANA (N. Yamada), which was taken out by LEICA ZIP (P. Wolfgram).

Passing the 750m, LIFE TO THE MAX was momentarily steadied away from the heels of TOP IT OFF (W. Clasohm), which shifted in slightly. TOP IT OFF then shifted out to relieve the pressure.

For some distance passing the 500m, PEAK PERFORMANCE raced tight to the inside of UTAH JAZZ (W. D’Avilla), which had a tendency to lay in at this stage.

Near the 500m, GENERAL BAXTER (J. Murphy) was momentarily steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of KARMA GUTSA (J. Piper). J. Piper, rider of KARMA GUTSA, was advised to exercise more care.

At the 350m, PEAK PERFORMANCE was held up for a short distance behind GENERAL BAXTER, which was yielding ground.

Leaving the 350m, GAILWIN was momentarily held up behind KARMA GUTSA.


Race 4: Southern Cross Automative Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Media Tart 2nd – Bemuse 3rd – Seven Wonders 4th - Mister Samba

Track temperature: 56 degrees celsius.

Stewards will inquiry into the reason for D. Sparks failure to fulfil his engagement on PENGUIN SUITE.

SEVEN WONDERS was delayed in arriving at the barriers after the gelding required resaddling prior to proceeding to the gates.

TISANI LAD was fractious behind the gates prior to the start. A warning was issued.

TISANI LAD (N. Yamada) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, bumping TURTLE BELLE (N. Evans), which became unbalanced.

ONYASONNY (J. Warrington) missed the start and shortly after had to be steadied away from the heels of HERECOMESTHETIGER (M. Hellyer), which shifted out slightly.

TISANI LAD (N. Yamada) overraced in the early and middle stages.

NEWMINSTER (R. Goltz) raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.

B. Evans, rider of MISTER SAMBA, was fined $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m in a forehand manner.


Race 5: TTC New Years Day Races Maiden Plate – 1500m
1st – Lady Innocent 2nd – Flying Dynamite 3rd – Kesthin 4th -

Track temperature: 56 degrees celsius.

CELTIC was declared a late scratching at 12.30 pm after the gelding was injured at trainer T. Austin’s stables.

LIBERTY’S MAGIC (B. Looker) jumped away awkwardly and was then slow into stride.

FLYING DYNAMITE (J. Piper) began awkwardly.

RIDING HONOURS (C. Eaton) raced fiercely in the early stages.

JOYEST LIGHTNING (R. Goltz) raced fiercely when caught wide in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the home turn, LIBERTY’S MAGIC (B. Looker) was momentarily held up for clear running.

Near the 200m, LADY INNOCENT (M. Hellyer) shifted out and bumped KESTHIN (N. Yamada), which became unbalanced.

Approaching the finish line, LIBERTY’S MAGIC (B. Looker) was eased from the heels of FLYING DYNAMITE (J. Piper) when taken in by AI JO (K. Yoshida). K. Yoshida, rider of AI JO, was advised to exercise more care.

M. Hellyer, rider of LADY INNOCENT, was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m in a forehand manner.

A post race veterinary examination of MAGIQUE SPRING, which tailed off, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.




Race 6: Happy Birthday Jobe Johnson Class 3 Plate – 1500m
1st – Diehard Trying 2nd – Mother Russia 3rd – Just A Glamour 4th – Smart ‘n’ Crafty

Track temperature: 53 degrees celsius.

NOVA CHENKA (N. Tomizawa) missed the start.

Rounding the turn near the 1200m, JUST A GLAMOUR (N. Evans) threw its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SIMPLE STUFF (J. Warrington).

MOXICON (G. Geran) raced wide in the middle stages and near the 800m was forced wider by SMART ‘N’ CRAFTY (D. Missen), which shifted out in order to improve.

Rounding the final turn, NOVA CHENKA (N. Tomizawa) was unable to improve when held up for clear running.

DIEHARD TRYING (N. Thomas) laid in over the concluding stages.

Race 7: 7 Summer Of Tennis Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
1st –Canna 2nd – Grey encounter 3rd – Duke William 4th – Go Dan Go

Track temperature: 48 degrees celsius.

VOLUNTARY (K. Yoshida) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, bumping OMNAGOMMERA (B. Richardson).

MAID OF SEVENS (K. Banks) and KORGOLD (R. Gotlz) bumped on jumping away, resulting in KORGOLD shifting in and bumping the hind quarters of WATCH THE SHOW (S. Bogenhuber), which became unbalanced.

FINE CONNECTION (T. Huxham) raced ungenerously and had a tendency to hang out in the middle stages.

Near the 500m, FINE CONNECTION was steadied when disappointed for a run between OMNAGOMMERA (B. Richardson) and GREY ENCOUNTER (M. Hellyer), which shifted in slightly. FINE CONNECTION was then held up for clear running until the early part of the home straight.

Passing the 350m, VOLUNTARY (K. Yoshida) had to be steadied when crowded for room between GREY ENCOUNTER (M. Hellyer), which shifted in slightly, and DUKE WILLIAM (N. Yamada), which shifted out in order to improve.

A post race veterinary examination of VOLUNTARY, which was first up today from a spell and tired in the home straight, did not reveal any abnormalities.


Race 8: XXXX Gold Open H'cap – 1200m
1st – Silver Scholar 2nd – Mirabeau 3rd – Zahas Pride 4th – Bold Glance

Track temperature: 43 degrees celsius.

As J. Kehoe was ill, N. Tomizawa was substituted as the rider of COURT ADJOURNED.

KING’S COURSE (S. Egan) and JUST A TOUCH (B. El-Issa) bumped on jumping away.

RATTLE ‘N’ RUN (M. Hellyer) and DESERT HAYIL (B. Looker) both jumped away awkwardly and bumped at the start.

Near the 800m, KING’S COURSE, when racing tight to the inside of JUST A TOUCH (B. El-Issa) became unbalanced and lost ground when bumped by PRINCE LIONHEART, which shifted out slightly.

Apprentice T. Fujinuma, rider of ZAHAS PRIDE, was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

When questioned in relation to the performance of SILVERN, apprentice T. Huxham stated that he enjoyed a good run throughout but could offer no excuse for its disappointing performance. Trainer J. McLachlan stated that it was the gelding’s second poor performance at the Toowoomba track, however he was also unable to offer any reason for its showing today. He added that SILVERN had worked well during the week and had expected it to perform well, however expressed overall disappointment with the gelding’s effort. A post race veterinary examination of SILVERN failed to reveal any abnormality. Mr McLachlan undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that becomes apparent with SILVERN that may have had a bearing on today’s performance.



Race 9: JJ Richards Class 3 Plate - 1000m
1st – Startling Pleasure 2nd – Street Stall 3rd – Tuscon Rain 4th – Canadian Joy

Track temperature: 37 degrees celsius.

The explanation tendered by trainer S. Foster for the late declaration of Michael Palmer as the rider for LADY TINGLE was accepted.

LADY TINGLE (M. Palmer) was slowly away.

TRUE BLUE ANGEL (M. Hellyer) and NOISY SCOOTER (W D’Avila) bumped shortly after the start.

Upon pulling up approximately 150 metres past the winning post, LAST LOVE shifted ground abruptly, dislodging J. Piper from the saddle. J. Piper suffered no apparent injury.
