Shortly after the start, HONOUR GUARD (K. Ashton) was tightened for room between CONSULATE and KINGCUP (M. Dorrington), which shifted in.
Approaching the 600m, DANCEFLOOR PRODIGY had to be checked when tightened for room between MAKTIG PANIS VITAI (S. Wiseman), which shifted out, and CONSULATE, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Stewards advised both apprentice S. Wiseman, rider of MAKTIG PANIS VITAI, and jockey A. Best, rider of CONSULATE, to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
CONSULATE was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
READY TO BURN and CONSULATE raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 2: Find Us On Facebook Class 4 H'cap – 1500m
1st – Woodbury Hill 2nd – Striking Rose 3rd – Nova Chenka 4th – Kunninkik
Track temperature: 28 degrees celsius
As apprentice S. Egan failed to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement on SIMPLE STUFF, apprentice M. O'Brien was substituted as the rider of Simple Stuff. Subsequently, S. Egan was fined $100 for failing to ensure he allowed adequate time from his last engagement at Dalby to fulfil his engagement in this race.
LAVENDI (P. Wolfgram) was slow to begin.
WOODBURY HILL (S. Wiseman) shifted in shortly after the start and had to be eased off the hind quarters of SIMPLE STUFF (M. O'Brien).
Near the 900m, ELEGANCE DRAGON (J. Letherby) had to be eased from the heels of DUMUZI (N. Yamada), which lost ground.
N. Evans, rider of JUST A GLAMOUR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he failed to make sufficient effort to restrain his mount from shifting in at a point leaving the 900m, which resulted in DUMUZI being checked between JUST A GLAMOUR and ADDICTED TO WEALTH (N. Tomizawa). N. Evans was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 19 March and to expire at midnight, 1 April 2011.
STRIKING ROSE (A. Best) was inclined to overrace in the middle stages.

WOODBURY HILL (S. Wiseman) hung in under pressure for most of the home straight.
KUNNINKIK (K. Ashton) raced wide for the majority of the race.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of WOODBURY HILL, trainer I. Duke reported that the horse's past 2 race starts were better than the results suggested in that there were excuses for the gelding at both starts. Mr Duke added that he has only had the gelding for its previous 2 starts and WOODBURY HILL has pleased him in his trackwork leading into tonight's race and was not surprised by the winning performance.
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice N. Yamada regarding the tactics adopted on DUMUZI in tonight's race, whereby it settled midfield which was in contrast to its previous runs whereby the colt has led. N. Yamada advised that his instructions were to obtain cover tonight if possible, which were similar instructions to its previous 2 starts where when overracing he has been unable to obtain cover on the horse. Stewards noted the explanation.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of JUST A GLAMOUR, N. Evans stated that he placed the mare under pressure from the 700m however it failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, proved disappointing. Jockey Evans further added that JUST A GLAMOUR had suffered from a virus 4 weeks prior to this race and, in his opinion, may not have fully recovered from the effects of it. A post race veterinary examination of JUST A GLAMOUR revealed the horse to be displaying a cough.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey P. Wolfgram regarding the performance of LAVENDI, which raced below market expectations. P. Wolfgram explained that the gelding had worked well during the past week, however tonight was slow to begin, which was similar to its last start, and when positioned at the rear of the field resented the kick back from tonight's surface. He added that when placed under pressure, LAVENDI failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Jockey Wolfgram added that connections advised him that they may consider spelling the horse.
Stewards questioned J. Letherby regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ELEGANCE DRAGON. He stated that he had been inconvenienced near the 900m as a result of interference which occurred at this stage and that the gelding failed to improve into the race when placed under pressure near the 700m, and, in his opinion, proved disappointing. Stewards noted the explanation.

As no senior rider was available, stewards permitted apprentice M. O'Brien to replace P. Wolfgram as the rider of GLOW HEART.
GLOW HEART (M. O'Brien), ROCHER'S BEST (K. Yoshida) and MY SWEET VALENTINE (J. Kehoe) were all slow to begin.
Near the 900m, OTAGO (S. Galvin) shifted in abruptly, taking STAIRWAYTOPARADISE (N. Evans) in on to DECLIKS (N. Tomizawa). Jockey S. Galvin, rider of OTAGO, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at such an acute angle.
MY SWEET VALENTINE (J. Kehoe), MISS BREWHAHA (S. Richardson) and SOUTHERN DATE (N. Yamada) raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of MY SWEET VALENTINE, trainer D. Tunnah advised that the filly was having its first start for him tonight and had employed different training methods with the filly from its previous trainer. He added that the horse had pleased him in its work leading into tonight's race and in its trial on 15 February 2011 where it had finished third and was confident of a forward showing tonight from MY SWEET VALENTINE. The explanation was noted.
A post race veterinary examination of STAIRWAYTOPARADISE, which compounded over the concluding stages, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
