SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As W Clasohm was ill and not riding at the meeting, rider replacments were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: TRACKSIDE PHOTOGRAPHY QTIS 3-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1500M
1st – Dodging Eddie 2nd – Olliewood 3rd – Charo's Run 4th – Wild Silk
Track temperature: 36 degrees Celsius
BRODENBRI (N. Tomizawa) bounded as the gates were released and lost some ground.
ASTROBABE (P. Wolfgram) began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping OLLIEWOOD (G. Geran).
Making the first turn, CHANTIANA (L. Cumberland) got its head up and hung out across the heels of WILD SILK (B. Wallace).
Near the 300m, WILD SILK shifted out and bumped RUNNING SOLO (A. Smith).
In the straight, CHARO'S RUN (K. Yoshida) and FEITSUI (S. Bogenhuber) hung in.
WILD SILK broke down after the winning post and as rider B. Wallace returned to scale without his saddle, stewards declared weight on the Judge's placings having been satisfied B. Wallace carried his allotted weight. AR142. A post race veterinary examination of WILD SILK revealed the filly was significant lame in the near fore fetlock. A veterinary clearance will be required for WILD SILK prior to its next race start.
Race 2: PSP VIDEO CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1850M
1st – Kalinga Echo 2nd – Thormanby 3rd – Seattle Dane 4th – Waasies Shadow
Track temperature: 28 degrees Celsius
When the gates were released, KALINGA ECHO (G. Geran) got its head down and began very awkwardly.
SOSUEME (L. Cumberland) was slow to begin.
In the early and middle stages, COOPERS COMET (M. O'Brien) raced keenly.
On straightening, HELLO WORLD (K. Forrester) was momentarily unbalanced between KALINGA ECHO (G. Geran), which shifted in, and SEATTLE DANE (S. Drake), which shifted out slightly.
G. Geran, rider of KALINGA ECHO, was fined $300 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
L. Finlay, rider of WAASIES SHADOW, was fined $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
Race 3: A&G SHEDS CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Miss Imagica 2nd – Willyclang 3rd – Double Rise 4th – Ruling Party
Track temperature: 28 degrees Celsius.
WILLYCLANG (D. McWhinney) began awkwardly.
DUAL ECHELON (S. Drake) was slow to begin.
Race 4: SKY RACING FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Back In Drac 2nd – Jessica Emma 3rd – Wyn For Me 4th – Canadian Hussey
Track temperature: 27 degrees Celsius.
After lodging a gear change for bar plates on MAXINE, trainer P Nolan Jr reported that the mare worked unsatisfactorily on Friday morning 1 July wearing the plates. In the circumstances stewards acceded to a request from Mr Nolan to remove the plates after the gear change deadline.
SILVER FAE (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to begin.
On jumping away, FINAL JOY (M. O'Brien) was checked when crowded for room between SUBSPECIES (A. Best) and BACK IN DRAC (N. Evans), which was taken out by CANADIAN HUSSEY (B. Wallace), which in turn was crowded by JESSICA EMMA (S. Drake), which shifted out badly.
PROUD AS PUNCH (P. Wolfgram) began awkwardly and shifted out, losing ground.
For some distance after the 600m, WYN FOR ME (K. Forrester) and MONDE BIJOU (L. Cumberland) raced tight, and approaching the 400m WYN FOR ME, which was weakening, was checked between MONDE BIJOU (L. Cumberland), which shifted out, and BACK IN DRAC, which shifted in slightly.
When questioned, L. Cumberland, rider of MONDE BIJOU, explained that the horse raced in a forward position as expected and travelled well until near the 600m. He said when he endeavoured to shift away from the rail from behind MAUNA LOA (S. Egan), MONDE BIJOU made heavy contact with WYN FOR ME on a number of occasions. L. Cumberland added that after this the horse dropped the bit and became badly unbalanced and when placed under pressure on straightening, MONDE BIJOU failed to respond.
Race 5: CENTRAL JEWELLERS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN H’CAP - 1200M
1st –Rock It Now 2nd – El Vivo 3rd – Waitara Lad 4th – Salute The Digger
Track temperature: 26 degrees Celsius.
EL VIVO (P. Wolfgram) stood flatfooted and lost ground at the start.
WHAT ABOUT BILLY (S. Egan) was slow to begin.
Near the 600m, WAITARA LAD (B. Wallace) was bumped by SALUTE THE DIGGER (T. Harrison), which shifted out.
Passing the 400m, WAITARA LAD and SALUTE THE DIGGER became unbalanced when racing tight between MR NOBODY (S. Drake) and PEDERNALES (S. Bogenhuber).
Near the 100m, PEDERNALES shifted out and bumped SALUTE THE DIGGER.
Race 6: CHOICE HOME LOANS CLASS 3 PLATE - 850M
1st – Aquatorial 2nd – Lissoy's Lass 3rd – Emma Kate 4th – Queenofbeaudesert
Track temperature: 25 degrees Celsius.
The start was delayed slightly when EMMA KATE proved difficult to load. Trainer M. Webb was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly regarding its barrier manners.
Near the 700m, RAZOR GANG (J. Hoopert) was restained when TINY SECRET (L. Cumberland) shifted out slightly.
Race 7: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Carry Me Bluey 2nd – Tallyho 3rd – Silverton 4th – Edwardscissorhands
Track temperature: 25 degrees Celsius.
After being boxed, EDWARDSCISSORHANDS broke through the front of the stalls and cantered a short distance. The horse was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
CARRY ME BLUEY, which was drawn in close proximity, lunged forward, disloding rider K. Banks in the stalls.
Near the 800m, BELLA MONTANA (S. Bogenhuber) had to be restrained off the heels of TRADIES HOPE (K. Forrester) when taken in slightly by TALLYHO (S. Egan), which itself was taken in by EDWARDSCISSORHANDS. In the circumstances, no action was taken.
Near the 400m, DANEREADY (N. Tomizawa) was steadied when disappointed for a run between TALLYHO (S. Egan) and DE NIECE (S. Drake), which shifted out.
After the 400m, BELLA MONTANA, which was hanging in badly, was checked to avoid the heels of CERULEAN BLUE (N. Yamada), which was weakening.
In the straight, A. Best (SILVERTON) dropped his near-side rein.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding tactics adopted by apprentice S. Egan on TALLYHO, in particular his failure to hold his position from between the 900m until the 600m. After taking initial evidence from apprentice Egan, the matter was adjourned to enable stewards to interview Mrs J. Crompton, trainer of TALLYHO, and to allow apprentice Egan to have his master present.
