Leaving the 200m, MR MOTO (K. Yoshida) was disappointed for clear running between WATACON (N. Tomizawa) and SAHARA SHAMAL (M. O'Brien), both of which shifted ground slightly.

ORHTAC and SUNDAY ADVICE (L. Cumberland) overraced in the early and middle stages.
K. Yoshida, rider of I'LLBETRICKED, dropped his whip near the 100m.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of GRAIN TRADER, jockey G. Geran stated that after suffering some interference at start the horse settled back further than anticipated, and he felt that the fast pace set in the event had not suited his mount in that he had to make a long sustained run on the horse to improve his position from leaving the 800m and was obliged to shift wide on the track to do so. He felt that, in all the circumstances, GRAIN TRADER finished the race off fairly. Trainer M. Kropp agreed with G. Geran's assessment and was also of the opinion that the rise in weight tonight as compared to its previous start may also have had a bearing on the performance. Stewards noted the explanations.
Apprentice S. Egan was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FOREVER GENTLE. Apprentice Egan stated that he was at a loss to explain tonight's performance, in that after obtaining a nice run just off the speed, the filly failed to respond to his riding from leaving the 600m and, in his opinion, was disappointing. Trainer P. Sexton stated that the filly had pleased him in trackwork leading in to tonight's race, however he was disappointed with the performance of FOREVER GENTLE and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which comes to light which may have had a bearing on tonight's performance.

After hearing submissions from Mr M. Park, trainer of DON'T TELL RHONDA, stewards permitted S. Egan to fulfill this engagement when only being able to claim 1 kilogram of his 3 kilogram allowance. Mr Park was nevertheless severely reprimanded and advised that in future he must confirm riding engagements prior to declaring his riders.

DODGY CAT (M. Abe) and BUSH BEET (S. Galvin) were slow to begin.
HOT LAPS (S. Egan) blundered soon after the start and lost ground.
PRINCE REGO (P. Wolfgram) raced greenly in the middle stages.
EPIC DANCER (G. Geran) hung in under pressure over the final 200m, and near the 100m shifted in, forcing BREAKING OUT (J. Kehoe) in on to HOT LAPS (S. Egan), which shifted in.
Approaching the 50m, HOT LAPS improved on to the heels of the tiring PRINCE REGO (P. Wolfgram) and shifted out abruptly, causing BREAKING OUT to be momentarily steadied. Apprentice S. Egan, rider of HOT LAPS, was advised to show greater care when shifting ground in future.
LET ME ROCK shifted in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
BREAKING OUT, HOT LAPS and DODGY CAT (M. Abe) raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of AMISHEE BELLE, N. Tomizawa reported that the filly travelled well in the early and middle stages of the event, however once placed under pressure leaving the 300m, AMISHEE BELLE failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, was disappointing. Trainer R Pereira could offer no tangible explanation and advised that she would now review the horse's current preparation. Trainer R. Pereira undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that comes to her attention that may have had a bearing on tonight's performance.

Leaving the 550m until leaving the 400m, GREYS A ROCKIN (P. Wolfgram) was held up on the heels of the tiring HIDDEN ASSETS.
Near 300m, PEACE AN QUIET (M. Walters) had to be steadied when tightened for room by PROFESSOR which, when hanging in, shifted in and away from PAPER WEIGHT (K. Yoshida).
Race 6: PSP Video QTIS 3YO H'cap – 1200m
1st – Don't Call Me Crazy 2nd – Rodregeuz 3rd – Whisprian 4th –Renezma
Track temperature: 6 degrees Celsius.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by G. Geran, rider of the 2nd placegetter, RODRIGEUZ, against DONT CALL ME CRAZY (N. Tomizawa) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 250m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol films, it was established that near the 250m a narrow run had presented itself between WHISPRIAN and DONT CALL ME CRAZY. Shortly after, WHISPRIAN shifted in, however DONT CALL ME CRAZY shifted in when insuffiently clear of RODRIGEUZ, resulting in G. Geran having to take hold of RODRIGEUZ and having the momentum of his mount impeded. In considering the interference involved and the head margin between both horses at the finish, stewards upheld the protest and the Judge's placings were amended to read: No. 2. – RODRIGEUZ – 1st No. 5 – DONT CALL ME CRAZY – 2nd No. 6 – WHISPRIAN – 3rd No. 3 – RENEZMA. At a subsequent inquiry, N. Tomizawa, rider of DONT CALL ME CRAZY, was reprimanded.
LISSOY LAD (S. Drake) began awkwardly and lost ground and was then reluctant to stretch out. A post race veterinary examination of LISSOY LAD revealed the horse to be slightly distressed. Rider S. Drake reported that, in her opinion, the horse resented the cross-over noseband and as a result was reluctant to race in a genuine manner. Trainer R. Coveney agreed with S. Drake's assessment and advised stewards he would remove the cross-over noseband and experiment with different gear for the horse's next race start. Stewards noted their explanations.
RENEZMA (L. Cumberland) raced wide throughout.
Race 7: Neil Mansell Transort Maiden Plate – 1625m
1st – Isle de Pines 2nd – French Noble 3rd – retracted 4th – Besswishes
Track temperature: 4 degrees Celsius.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Letherby, rider of the 4th placegetter BESSWISHES, against FRENCH NOBLE (M. O'Brien) being declared 2nd on the grounds of interference over the final 50m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and from the stewards observations, it was established that FRENCH NOBLE shifted out under hard riding when insufficiently clear of BESSWISES, resulting in J. Letherby having to take hold of his mount and relinquish his position. Stewards could not be satisfied that had this interference not occurred BESSWISHES would have beaten FRENCH NOBLE to the finish as, in the opinion of the stewards, BESSWISHES run had ended, and therefore the protest was dismissed and the Judge's placings were confirmed.
FLOODMARK (L. Cumberland) and BESSWISHES (J. Letherby) both began awkwardly.
YOUNG BERRY (S. Egan) was slow to begin.
YOUNG BERRY overraced in the early stages.
Approaching the 1400m, ISLE DE PINES (P. Wolfgram) commenced to overrace and improved up on to the heels of FLOODMARK (L. Cumberland) and shifted out near the 1200m, forcing RETRACTED (S. Drake) wider on the track. RETRACTED was obliged to race 3 wide for the remainder of the race.
Apprentice M. O'Brien, rider of FRENCH NOBLE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 50m she permitted her mount to shift out when under hard riding when not clear of BESSWISHES (J. Letherby), which had its momentum checked and lost its position. Apprentice O'Brien was suspended for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, Saturday, 16 July and to expire at midnight, Wednesday, 27 July.
