Race 1: Brisbane Riverview Hotel QTIS 3yo 1200m-
1st –Top Of The Rock 2nd – Peterhof 3rd – Savage 4th – Peterof

Track temperature: 35 degrees Celsius

After being boxed, WINDEL TORI broke through the front of the gates. The horse was quickly restrained, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

WINDEL TORI (N. Tomizawa) began awkwardly.

TOP OF THE ROCK (G. Goold) began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping PETERHOF (W. Clasohm).

Approaching the 900m AUGUST BISHOP (K. Banks) fell. An inquiry was opened with initial evidence taken from G. Geran, rider of SAVAGE, G. Goold, rider of TOP OF THE ROCK, S. Bogenhuber, rider of FINE TUNE, J. Kehoe, rider of MUM'S BOY, and N. Yamada, rider of DECLARE. As K. Banks had been transported to hospital, the inquiry was adjourned until such time as K. Banks was able to give evidence. As a result of this incident, DECLARE (N. Yamada) and MUM'S BOY (J. Kehoe) were both severely inconvenienced.

When questioned, N. Tomizawa, rider of WINDEL TORI, explained that the filly was able to obtain a forward position in the early stages and travelled well behind the eventual winner TOP OF THE ROCK, however when the pace quickened from the 600m, his mount was the first horse beaten and failed to respond to his riding around the turn and resented other runners to its inside, dropping the bit and weakening badly in the straight. N. Tomizawa added that the horse's action felt fine, however the filly raced in a flat manner. Trainer K. Kemp stated that he was of the opinion that WINDEL TORI had come to the end of its preparation and would now be spelled immediately.

Race 2: Happy New Year Members Class 2 H'cap – 1500m
1st – Savage River 2nd – Lady Innocent 3rd – Punto Vista 4th – Western Run

Track temperature: 28 degrees Celsius

Due to the fallen rider in Race 1 being attdended to, the start of this race was delayed.

After being boxed, THORMANBY reared in the barriers injuring its rider, J. Hoopert, who was then unable to fulfil his engagement on the horse.

THORMANBY was declared a late scratching at 5.40 pm. Stewards ordered all monies invested on THORMANBY be refunded with the following deductions to apply on successful wagers as follows:

For bets placed on the winner and placegetters prior to 5.40 pm:

0 cent in the dollar for the winner No. 1 – Savage River
3 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner No.1 – Savage River
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place No.7 – Lady Innocent
5 cents in the dollar for 3rd place No. 4 – Punto Vista

Trainer R. Smith was advised that a barrier certificate would be required for THORMANBY prior to its next race start.

MAYALBE (R. Goltz) blundered badly at the start and shifted out abruptly, bumping with WESTERN RUN (N. Evans).

LEICA PULSE (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to begin.

Near the 400m, MISS CHANCESXAAR (W. Clasohm) was steadied when crowded for room inside WESTERN RUN, which shifted in slightly.

Track temperature: 21 degrees Celsius.

In the early stages, LIESELE overraced when racing without cover.

Rounding the home turn, CRYSTAL DOLL (Z. Landry) was held up behind ISHI NAUGHTY (N. Tomizawa), which was commencing to weaken.

S. Bogenhuber, rider of HULL CITY, explained that when endeavouring to restrain to find a
position with cover near the 900m her mount shifted in slightly, which resulted in HULL CITY touching the heels of JUST DESTINY (K. Yoshida) and blundering.

K. Yoshida, rider of JUST DESTINY, explained that the mare travelled well in a handy position throughout, however from the 600m when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved most disappointing. Trainer R. Lipp reported that after the race JUST DESTINY had significant discharge due to track material and had a very poor post-race recovery. A post race veterinary examination of JUST DESTINY revealed the mare had been galloped on behind and was exhibiting some respiratory distress.

Race 5: Citypro Computers Class H'cap – 1300m
1st – Tiyatro 2nd – Deep Heat 3rd – 4th - Basaltic Banne

DIAMOND SILK (S. Bogenhuber), DEEP HEAT (J. Letherby), ASTROBABE (N. Yamada) and COMMANDER BOLTZ (G. Goold) were slow to begin.

A post race veterinary examination of RAMA KAHO, which performed disappointingly, revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer N. Hilton was advised that RAMA KAHO must perform satisfactorily in an official trial, and that he must supply a veterinary clearance for RAMA KAHO before the horse is permitted to race again.

Race 7: Central Jewellers Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – El Jackino 2nd – Masakari 3rd – Acadane 4th – Stronghld

Track temperature: 20 degrees Celsius.

ACADANE (S. Drake) blundered at the start and shifted in, bumping BOOMALICIOUS (N. Evans).

THE CAT CAN DANCE (A. Smith) began awkwardly.
