SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

As S. Apthorpe was indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: Happy 80th Doreen Allen QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1000m
1st – Medeya 2nd – Sezwho 3rd – Get It Right 4th – Falvelani

Track temperature: 37 degrees Celsius

TUESDAY FIASCO (J. Letherby) and FALVELANI (S. Bogenhuber) were both checked on jumping away when crowded for room between STRONGHOLD (K. Yoshida), which shifted out, and PAKLEPPA LANE (C. Maund), which shifted in after being bumped by FAINGAA (J. Kehoe).

For some distance after the 600m, STRONGHOLD hung in badly.

In the straight MEDEYA (S. Egan) hung in.

Race 2: Pierlite Lighting Class 4 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Zeditave 2nd – Little Footsteps 3rd – Halo'd Be Thy Name 4th – Random Orbit

Track temperature: 27 degrees Celsius

On jumping, SEEYOU SEEYOU (J. Letherby) was severely checked when crowded for room between LITTLE FOOTSTEPS (A. Best) and FEAR NO OTHER (N. Ogura), which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. After this, FEAR NO OTHER got its head up for some distance and was reluctant to muster early speed.

Race 3: Haymans Electrical Class 1 H'cap – 1300m
1st – Eskervinth 2nd – Illude 3rd – Back In Drac 4th – Peace Talks

Track temperature: 24 degrees Celsius

PEACE TALKS (A. Best) and ILLUDE (J. Johnson) were slow to begin.

Approaching the turn near the 900m, BANKER BEWARE (N. Nishio) was steadied when it shifted out across the heels of PAMALINO (J. Hoopert).

In the straight, WILLHAVEAHUNDRED had trouble obtaining clear running.

N Tomizawa (PHILOCRACY) explained the horse travelled well behind the leader but was under presuure from the 600m, failed to respond and for this reason he eased it down in the straight. Trainer K Kemp, explained the horse has performed poorly at its last two starts, and he is unable to identify any problem. Mr Kemp said it was now the intention to spell the filly, with a view to then deciding on its future racing career. Mr Kemp was advised that it would be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial, and that if they continued with its current preparation, he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate of fitness before its next start.

GENERAL

Prior to the running of Race 4, the racecourse was inundated with a torrential electrical storm in which an extraordinary amount of rain fell in a very short period of time. During this storm, the track lighting failed for some minutes on 3 separate occasions. Due to this, the stewards ordered that all races be put back one race time slot. Following the rainfall, a number of senior riders and stewards inspected the course proper, particularly at a section of some concern between the 1000m and 1100m. Upon inspection, it was found significant surface water was present. A section of the track near the 400m to 350m was also of concern. It was decided by all jockeys in the presence of members of the Committee that every attempt be made to continue with the meeting and it was decided that the appropriate machinery be utilised to try to recover the 2 sections of track near the 1000m and the 400m. As a result of this delay, all races were further put back one race time slot. After this attempt at track rectification, the jockeys were then satisfied that the section of track near the 1000m was suitable for racing. However, after 2 separate attempts at the track rectification near the 400m, the surface water was still present and significant enough for them to have concerns with the safety of that section of the track. After receiving this advice, the jockeys inspecting the track were of the opinion it was unsafe to continue and therefore the remaining riders at the meeting accepted this advice and unanimously agreed that it was not reasonable to continue with the meeting. Therefore, stewards decided, in the presence of the Committee of the Club, that the remaining races on the program be postponed.
