SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From Gold Coast 3 March 2012 – Race 5: The explanation tendered by apprentice M. O'Brien for failing to fulfil her engagement on SEQUALO GOLD was accepted.

Race 1: XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1500M
1st – Random Orbit 2nd – Professor 3rd – Double Rise 4th – The Clandy Man Can

Track temperature: 22 degrees Celsius

Near the 1100m DOUBLE RISE (N. Evans) shifted out from behind OUR PERUGGIA (N. Tomizawa) and in doing so bumped PROFESSOR (A. Best). After this PROFESSOR then endeavoured to maintain its racing line and the two horses bumped for some distance.

Approaching the 900m PROFESSOR, which was racing three wide without cover, endeavoured to shift in behind in behind DOUBLE RISE. As this occurred, THE CLANDY MAN CAN (J. Brown) improved up inside of PROFESSOR resulting in RANDOM ORBIT (P. Wolfgram), which was racing on the fence, being crowded for room near the 850m. In the circumstances, no action was taken.

From the 600m PROFESSOR hung in badly.

For some distance in the straight PROFESSOR was inclined to hang in behind DOUBLE RISE.

After the 100m DOUBLE RISE shifted out slightly under pressure and bumped PROFESSOR.

N. Evans (DOUBLE RISE) was fined $100 for using the whip in a forehand manner in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

Race 2: XXXX SUMMER CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1050M
1st – Taimzuptina 2nd – Medeya 3rd – Declare 4th – Itala Prince

Track temperature: 22 degrees Celsius

The explanation tendered by apprentice J. Letherby for failing to fulfil his engagement on SOLEBID was accepted.

The start of this race was delayed slightly when DECLARE (A. Best) proved difficult to load. Trainer M. Webb was advised that a warning would be placed against this filly.

FINE TUNE (N. Tomizawa) began awkwardly and was then bumped by SOLEBID (R. Goltz) and as a result was steadied off the heels of DECLARE.

Race 3: XXXX BITTER MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
1st – The Zedhorse 2nd – Lissoy Lad 3rd – Winning Again 4th – Johanne's Diamond

Track temperature: 22 degrees Celsius

WINNING AGAIN (J. Letherby) began awkwardly, shifted out and lost ground.

JOHANNE'S DIAMOND (S. Drake) was crowded for room at the start between PRINCESS PEACH (M. O'Brien) and WARRIOR EYES (K. Yoshida), both of which shifted ground.

In the early stages THE ZEDHORSE (R. Goltz) raced very keenly and near the 800m shifted out resulting in PRINCESS PEACH being steadied.

After the 500m CHI KO (N. Tomizawa) commenced to give ground and when doing so hung in badly despite its rider's efforts, resulting in FEARLESS (W. Clasohm) having to be checked near the 400m. When being checked, FEARLESS shifted out across the heels of CHI KO and caused some inconvenience to WINNING AGAIN and PRINCESS PEACH.

Race 4: XXXX LIGHT QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
1st – Esther Caroline 2nd – Falvelani 3rd – Feisty Lady 4th – On Ice Now

Track temperature: 21 degrees Celsius

SYRUS (J. Letherby) and ZAROUGE (N. Yamada) were slow to begin.

Approaching the 800m ZAROUGE raced keenly and was steadied to avoid the heels of SUHAILAH (J. McKinnon) which shifted in and away slightly from STORMY ARRIVAL (R. Goltz).

FEISTY LADY (S. Bogenhuber) commenced to lay out from the 800m and then rounding the home turn shifted ground despite the efforts of its rider. Stable connections undertook to experiment with the horse's gear, and on this assurance no action was taken. However, trainer D. Gollan was advised that as the filly had performed similarly at its previous start, more severe action may be considered should its tendency to hang continue.

Near the 400m SUHAILAH was crowded for room and bumped with SYRUS when awkwardly placed inside the heels of STORMY ARRIVAL which, when giving ground, shifted in slightly.

Race 5: PALM LAKES RESORT MAIDEN H’CAP – 1500M
1st – Prince Of The Park 2nd – Not Courageable 3rd – Aside 4th – Eureka Strike

Track temperature: 22 degrees Celsius

K. Yoshida (MISS ANDONEL) explained that the instructions were to have the horse in a forward position but travelling comfortably if possible. He said the horse in the past has been one that has shown the inclination to overrace and prove difficult to settle. From tonight's draw he pressed forward in the early stages, however PACIFIC THUNDER (M. O'Brien) began well and improved along its inside and in the early stages that horse was keen to hold the lead. He said whilst racing outside that horse, MISS ANDONEL again refused to settle and for this reason, rather than restrain the filly, he elected to allow it to stride forward and eventually cross to the lead near the 900m.

Apprentice M. O'Brien (PACIFIC THUNDER) explained that from the inside draw the horse jumped well and raced in a forward position, however she had anticipated trying to find cover if possible. She said in the early stages when MISS ANDONEL improved up to be racing at her horse's hind quarters, PACIFIC THUNDER began to race very keenly and refused to settle. She said although she would have liked to have allowed MISS ANDONEL to cross earlier than it did, she was unable to restrain PACIFIC THUNDER to allow this to happen, however when MISS ANDONEL strode forward from the 1000m and eventually crossed her horse, PACIFIC THUNDER then dropped the bit and settled better.

Race 6: WEETWOOD TICKETS ON SALE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Punto Vista 2nd – Halo'd Be Thy Name 3rd – Illude 4th – Eskervinth

Track temperature: 22 degrees Celsius

Near the 900m LIKE A GEE SIX (N. Tomizawa) shifted out and bumped HALO'D BE THY NAME (S. Bogenhuber). As N. Tomizawa had left the course without permission, he will be interviewed regarding this matter at a later date.

When questioned, S. Bogenhuber (HALO'D BE THY NAME) explained that in the early stages she obtained a position on the fence behind LIKE A GEE SIX with cover. She said when ESKERVINTH (P. Wolfgram) crossed LIKE A GEE SIX near the 900m she was concerned that this would result in her mount racing further back than she anticipated and in an awkward position. She said for this reason she elected to shift out away from behind LIKE A GEE SIX, however HALO'D BE THY NAME, when given clear running and no cover, then began to pull very hard and whe was unable to restrain the gelding. She said rather than fight against thehorse she felt she had little option but to allow it so stride up outside of ESKERVINTH, however the horse continued to race keenly and she was unable to get it to settle. In her opinion, she felt that the tactics that she adopted leaving the 1000m resulting in HALO'D BE THY NAME racing much keener than what she wished was a telling factor over the concluding stages. S. Bogenhuber conceded that in hindsight it would have been far better to have remained racing behind LIKE A GEE SIX in the early stages than taking the option that she did. She added that HALO'D BE THY NAME is a horse that does race keenly without cover and it would be her intention in future to find cover whenever possible.

As N. Tomizawa had left the course, Stewards intend to interview him in relation to the disappointing performance of LIKE A GEE SIX at a later date.
