Race 1: AWX Mining Support Services Class 4 H'cap – 1625m
1st – Knute 2nd – Thegreatandthegood 3rd – Keltic Honour 4th – Toy Ruler
Track temperature: 14 degrees Celsius
ZEEYAJIMI (B. Powell) was slow to begin.
BLACKGOLD (N. Evans) began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping ALL IN TIME (W. O'Connell).
S. Bogenhumber, rider of KNUTE, explained that her instructions and intentions prior to the race were to ride the horse midfield with cover if possible. She said that when the race began, KNUTE, which had drawn the outside gate, was unable to find a position with cover in the early stages and in trying to restrain the gelding, it commenced to pull and as she was trapped wide without cover, she felt she had little other option but to allow her mount to travel forward and find the lead. She said in doing this, KNUTE was able to do so without expending too much energy in the early stages and then was able to dictate terms in front. The explanation tendered was accepted.
Race 2: Buildscape Benchmark 80 H'cap – 1200m
1st – August Bishop 2nd – Titanium Rock 3rd – Hidden Treasure 4th – Convictor
Track temperature: 12 degrees Celsius
After being boxed, TISANI BOY kicked out on a number of occasions, striking the back gate. TISANI BOY was removed from the gates, examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the near hindleg. TISANI BOY was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 5.45 pm, with the following deductions applicable.
7 cents in the dollar for the winner, August Bishop
8 cents in the dollar for place of the winner, August Bishop
8 cents in the dollar for 2nd placegetter, Titanium Rock
15 cents in the dollar for 3rd placegetter, Hidden Treasure
ANNETTE'S PUMPKIN (B. Powell) stood flatfooted and lost ground at the start.
Making the first turn, TITANIUM ROCK (G. Goold), which was racing keenly, got its head up.
L. Cheshire, rider of TENNESSEE BLUE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that whilst riding her mount along with the whip inside the final 200m, she permitted it to shift in across the rightful running of GOLD RATING when not sufficiently clear, resulting in that horse being checked. Taking into account jockey Cheshire's good riding record and guilty plea, stewards were of the view that the appropriate penalty be that her licence to ride in races be suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnigt, 29 July and to expire at midnight 9 July.
Race 3: ECL Maiden Plate – 1300m
1st – New Ranger 2nd – Forward Scout 3rd – Camara Lad 4th – Johanne's Diamond
Track temperature: 11 degrees Celsius
In the early stages, DR HOUSE (S. Drake), which was pulling hard, was awkwardly placed at the heels of LIGHT FANTANGO (N. Evans). CAMARA LAD (S. Bogenhuber), which was following, also began to overrace and had to be checked off the heels of DR HOUSE near the 900m, resulting in JOHANNE'S DIAMOND (N. Nishio), which was pulling, also having to be steadied.
Making the turn near the 800m, SIR SCISSORS (R. Ride), which was racing keenly, shifted out, bumping the hind quarters of NEW RANGER (K. Yoshida), resulting in NEW RANGER becoming unbalanced.
On straightening, CAMARA LAD (S. Bogenhuber) was disappointed for a run between FORWARD SCOUT (G. Goold) and NEW RANGER and was obliged to shift back in to obtain clear running.

For some distance in the straight, SMARKT COOKIE (S. Drake) had difficulty obtaining clear running.
When the gates were released, AIN'T SHE SWEET missed the start badly and lost considerable ground. On return to scale, jockey L. Cheshire reported the horse may have been held by a gate attendant as the start was effected. After reviewing the film and taking evidence from the starter Mr P. Brennan, RQL starter Mr M. Henderson and the barrier attendant concerned, it was established that AIN'T SHE SWEET had been fractious in the stalls for some time prior to the start being effected and had turned its head to the near side on a number of occasions. It was then assisted by the barrier attendant who endeavoured on a number of occasions to straighten the horse's head. Jockey Cheshire advised that just prior to the start being effected, her horse was not standing straight, turned its head to the near side and she appealed to the starter not to release the field as the attendant still had hold of the horse's head, however the starter was unable to hear her call and released the field. After taking into account all the circumstances, including the amount of ground the horse lost at the start, bearing in mind AIN'T SHE SWEET had finished only 6 lengths from the winner, stewards deemed the horse to have had its chances of a fair start materially prejudiced and acting under AR134A declared the horse to be a non starter at 7.22 pm. Subsequently, all bets placed on AIN'T SHE SWEET were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
4 cents in the dollar for the win of LOCIMAGOOLI
9 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner LOCIMAGOOLI
11 cents in the dollar for 2nd place LAREDO
11 cents in the dollar for 3rd place SMART COOKIE
Trainer D. Peckett was advised that in view of the horse's manners in the barriers stalls that a warning would be placed against the record of AIN'T SHE SWEET.
A post race veterinary examination of HEY JEMMILY revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advisd that HEY JEMMILY must trial satisfactorily in an official barrier trial, and a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, must be provided prior to its next race start.
