SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From Toowoomba 8 September 2012 – Race 2.

Following the disappointing performance of STAND'N'STARE, trainer R. Macrae reported during the week that the horse displayed a severe nasal discharge in the days following the event and was undergoing medical treatment for the condition. Mr Macrae advised that STAND'N'STARE has been sent for an immediate spell.

GENERAL:

As S. Bogenhuber and apprentice R. Ride were injured, and as D. Robinson was indisposed, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Apprentices N. Nishio and A. Fancourt were each fined $100 for advising Stewards they were in the care of trainers K. Kemp and N. Hilton respectively when neither of those trainers was present at the race meeting.

Race 1: WIN NEWS TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M
1st – Lambourn 2nd – Sundae Dreamin' 3rd – Princess Ebony 4th – Quechua

Track temperature: 19 degrees Celsius

Jockey N. Evans, the rider of 4th placegetter QUECHUA, asked to view the film to see if he had grounds to lodge an objection for interference received shortly after the start. After viewing the film, jockey Evans indicated that he wished to lodge an objection against PRINCESS EBONY (N. Nishio) being declared 3rd. After taking evidence from both riders and the respective trainers, it was established that about 100m after the start and into the first turn QUECHUA was steadied when crowded for room between PRINCESS EBONY, which shifted in when not properly clear, and DEEKAYEL (G. Goold), which was getting its head up and shifting out. As the Stewards were of the view that PRINCESS EBONY was not the sole cause of the incident and as they were of the view that the extent of the interference did not exceed the margin of half a length separating both horses at the finish, the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the Judge's placings.

Apprentice M. O'Brien (TIPONI FORCE) was severely reprimanded for allowing her mount to shift in near the 1100m across the running of DEEKAYEL when not properly clear. In this incident DEEKAYEL had to be steadied.

Rounding the home turn TIPONI FORCE (M. O'Brien), which was giving ground, became badly unbalanced and then was steadied to avoid the heels of PRINCESS EBONY, which shifted out when not properly clear. Apprentice Nishio (PRINCESS EBONY) was reprimanded.

Race 2: MEL CUP PACKAGES NOW AVAILABLE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Trillium 2nd – Miss Stash 3rd – Embraer 4th – Embellish

Track temperature: 17 degrees Celsius

EMBELLISH (G. Goold) began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with ARABIAN GARDEN (N. Tomizawa), then was slow to muster speed in the early stages.

Race 3: CENTRAL JEWELLERS TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN H’CAP – 1625M
1st – Flagflamenco 2nd – Idle Minds 3rd – Nakoma Star 4th – Secret Circus

Track temperature: 15 degrees Celsius

LADY KINGSFORD (S. Apthorpe) began awkwardly, resulting in its rider striking his left foot on the gate.

SECRET CIRCUS (R. Goltz) and SABER LILLY (A. Badger) were slow to begin.

In the early stages the saddle on NAKOMA STAR (N. Nishio) shifted slightly forward for a short distance.

After the 1300m the saddle on RELLE'S TAG (M. O'Brien) shifted forward, placing the rider at a significant disadvantage, and near the 500m she felt obliged to remove both feet from the stirrups.

Race 4: JACK BUCKLEY'S 21ST BIRTHDAY BASH CLASS 3 PLATE – 1625M
1st – Griffith Lad 2nd – Get Uppity 3rd – Chastelain 4th – King Ludwig

Track temperature: 13 degrees Celsius

In the middle stages OFFYAROCKA (N. Nishio) raced keenly and had to be restrained.

Rounding the home turn CHASTELAIN (G. Goold) hung in.

D. Sparks, the rider of GET UPPITY, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) of using the whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. Bearing in mind jockey Sparks' poor record in regard to breaches of this rule, Stewards determined that his licence to ride in races be suspended for a period of 2 weeks, to commence immediately and expire at midnight on Saturday, 29 September 2012.

Whilst Stewards were satisfied that his actions had not cost him 3rd place, Apprentice D. McWhinney, the rider of 4th placegetter KING LUDWIG, was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ensure he rides his mounts out to the finish of the race.

Apprentice N. Nishio (OFFYAROCKA) explained he was instructed to ride the horse with cover if possible over the 1600m. He said after being crossed in the early stages by KING LUDWIG (D. McWhinney), OFFYAROCKA then commenced to race very keenly and he had difficulty in restraining the horse and it pulled hard for the majority of the first half of the race and this was a telling factor, and when he placed the horse under pressure it failed to run on and was disappointing. Trainer M. Nolan confirmed the instructions given as he was of the view that prior to tonight's event, as OFFYAROCKA was able to enjoy an easy lead last start, that there may have been more pace in this race and he did not want OFFYAROCKA to become involved in a speed battle in front. He said having viewed the replay he acknowledged that OFFYAROCKA proved too strong for apprentice Nishio after being crossed in the early stages and in hindsight he may have preferred to make other runners work harder for the lead in tonight's event. He added that depending on the distance of next start and barrier draw, he may consider altering the horse's tactics by holding the lead, which he undertook to advise Stewards of should he choose to do so.

Race 5: THE NATIONAL AUSTRALIA BANK SMALL BUSINESS CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1050M
1st – Sequalo Gold 2nd – Western Shadow 3rd – My Bellydancer 4th – Zeditave Plus

Track temperature: 12 degrees Celsius

Due to a misunderstanding, C. Maund was declared as the rider of ZOFA. N. Tomizawa was subsequently engaged to ride that gelding.

Near the 600m ZEDITAVE PLUS (J. Letherby), which was racing keenly, bumped with ZOFA (N. Tomizawa).

Race 6: RAY WHITE TOOWOOMBA RANGE BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1300M

Track temperature: 10 degrees Celsius

FINE TUNE (N. Nishio) began awkwardly.

DHACOURT (C. Maund) shifted out at the start and bumped DANISH LASS (G. Goold).

LOXLEY (N. Evans) was crowded for room on jumping away between DANISH LASS and COME PREPARED (A. Fancourt), both of which shifted ground.

Near the 1200m DHACOURT shifted out and made heavy contact with DANISH LASS.
