Apprentice B. Richardson was reprimanded for failing to produce her Winning Rides Book.
Race 1: Charlton Tyre Service Class 1 H'cap – 1100m
1st – Doctor David 2nd – Affirmative 3rd – Mount Morgan 4th – Voodoo Black Magic
Track temperature: 24 degrees Celsius
As the gates opened, VOODOO BLACK MAGIC (A. Spinks) bounded and lost ground.
WHO CARES WINS (J. Letherby) was crowded on jumping away by GHOST TRAIN (C. Maund), which shifted in abruptly.
RUBI OF THE DESERT (R. Goltz) and HOME AND HOSED (C. Eaton) were slow to begin.
For some distance after the 400m, HOME AND HOSED was crowded for room between VOODOO BLACK MAGIC and MOUNT MORGAN (N. Ogura), which was gradually shifting out to find clear running. Then on straightening, MOUNT MORGAN was disappointed for a run between SNOW'S A LADY (N. Tomizawa) and AFFIRMATIVE (N. Nishio).
Race 2: Shane Hopkins Class 2 H'cap – 1625m
1st – Psyclone Miss 2nd – Mako Shark 3rd – Chastelain 4th – Tara Brave
Track temperature: 20 degrees Celsius
After being boxed, TAX EVADER (M. Speers) became fractious and got down behind momentarily. This incident was viewed by the veterinary surgeon who was satisfied that the horse was suitable to start.
On jumping away, MAKO SHARK (N. Tomizawa) and CHASTELAIN (G. Goold) bumped heavily. Shortly after, MAKO SHARK was the checked when TAX EVADER shifted out abruptly. CHASTELAIN was also inconvenienced in this incident.
After being ridden to cross to the lead in the early stages, STIGORI (B. Richardson) then raced keenly for a considerable distance before compounding badly from the 500m.
In the straight, TARA BRAVE (A. Spinks) hung in.
Whilst stewards were satisfied that M. Speer's riding over the concluding stages did not affect his finishing position on TAX EVADER, he was nevertheless reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish line at least hands and heels wherever possible.
Race 3: Brisbane Bloodstock Hopeful Plate – 1000m
1st – Whiskey Allround 2nd – Angie's Diary 3rd – Pick And Run 4th - Architect
Track temperature: 18 degrees Celsius
On jumping, VOODOO BLUE MAGIC (A. Spinks) was bumped by SAHARA RULER (J. Kehoe), which shifted in.
SWEET SUGAR (M. O'Brien), ARCHITECT (N. Evans) and RUSTY COLOURS (M. Hellyer) were slow to begin.
After the 600m SAHARA RULER (J. Kehoe) raced awkwardly in restricted room to the inside of POUND ON TUBBY (C. Maund), which was hanging in.
After making the first turn near the 900m, BITTERSWEET (L. Morrison) hung out badly and raced wide. A post race veterinary examination of BITTERSWEET failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer M. Webb advised that BITTERSWEET would now be sent for an immediate spell. On this assurance, no further action was taken against the horse.
Race 4: Gainsborough Downs Home Village Maiden H'cap – 1200m
1st – Let Me Rock 2nd – Sweet Chilli Rose 3rd – Stormbeater 4th – Dream Bella
Track temperature: 16 degrees Celsius
STORMBEATER (C. Maund) and DAICHI DONE WELL (S. Drake) were slow to begin.
For some distance after the 500m, BOM CHICKA WAH WAH (J. Letherby) was crowded for room when racing in restricted room to the inside of DAICHI DONE WELL, which was hanging in badly.
The performance of FIGURE OF VENUS, which tailed off throughout, was considered unacceptable. Trainer S. Stanek was advised that FIGURE OF VENUS would not be permitted to start at TAB meetings until such time that it established more competitive form. Mr Stanek further advised that it was his intention to retire the mare.
B. Richardson, rider of the 5th placegetter, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in.
Race 5: Thooughbred International Benchmark 85 H'cap – 1000m
1st – Dr Barnard 2nd – Slice And Dice 3rd – Savage 4th – Stop Lying
Track temperature: 14 degrees Celsius
SLICE AND DICE (M. Speers) was slow to muster speed.
Rounding the home turn, SAVAGE (N. Tomizawa) hung out.
Race 6: Gainsborough Lodge Class 4 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Starstreamed 2nd – Windel Tori 3rd – Joppick 4th – Desert Lair
Track temperature: 14 degrees Celsius
STARSTREAMED (A. Fancourt) was slow to begin.
Making the turn near the 900m, DESERT LAIR (B. Richardson) struck the fence.
C. Eaton, rider of CAULDRON, was reprimanded for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
A post race veterinary examination of ROCK IT NOW, which performed poorly, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer K. Kemp advised stewards that it was now his intention to recommend to connections the gelding be retired from racing.
Race 7: Immovable Option 3yo H'cap – 1000m
1st – Robert's Command 2nd – Show Diva 3rd – Lord Lion Heart 4th – Lets Thinkabout It
Track temperature: 12 degrees Celsius
LORD LION HEART (R. Goltz) and SHOW DIVA (G. Goold) bumped at the start.
Rounding the turn near the 700m, LORD LION HEART (R. Goltz) was steadied off the heels of SHOW DIVA when taken out slightly by PURE POETRY (S. Bogenhuber).
Near the 500m, PURE POETRY was bumped on the hind quarter by LORD LION HEART.
