Race 1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIZ WOODFORD QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1050M
1st – Bittersweet 2nd – Total Authority 3rd – Livingston 4th – Sweeney

Track temperature – 22 degrees Celsius

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by D. Robinson for his dual engagements in this event. A. Taylor was declared as the rider of SWEET SUGAR.

Whilst being mounted, SWEET SUGAR reared backwards and fell, injuring its rider A. Taylor. As A. Taylor was significantly injured, requiring the assistance of a second ambulance, the runners, which had been sent to the barriers, were returned to the mounting yard and dismounted. SWEET SUGAR was declared a late scratching at 4.40 pm. As a result of the treatment to jockey Taylor, the start of this race was significantly delayed before eventually starting at 5.12 pm (27 minutes late). As a result of this, the start of Race 2 was amended to 5.42 pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SWEET SUGAR be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to bets placed prior to scratching time:

3 cents in the dollar for the Win – BITTERSWEET
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner – BITTERSWEET
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place – TOTAL AUTHORITY
4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place - LIVINGSTON

LE CHAT BOTTE (J. Letherby) and PICK AND RUN (M. Wood) were slow to begin.

EXCEEDINGLY FINE (R. Goltz) began awkwardly and lost ground.

In the early stages EXCEEDINGLY FINE raced keenly.

Throughout the event BITTERSWEET (A. Best) hung out and shifted ground on the home turn.

Race 2: HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHLOE WHEELER CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1050M
1st – Exogram 2nd – Show Flight 3rd – Snow’s A Lady 4th – Rubi Of The Desert

Track temperature – 22 degrees Celsius

This race started at 5.42 pm (17 minutes late).

RUBI OF THE DESERT (S. Lanigan) began awkwardly with its head up.

Near the 800m ANGEL FANTASY (M. Wood) was eased when crowded slightly by BUTCH (N. Evans), which shifted in and away from SHOW FLIGHT (N. Tomizawa).

Rounding the home turn BUTCH was badly held up behind RUBIES DESTINY (J. Letherby) before obtaining clear running shortly after straightening.

Race 3: HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATALIE JOHNSON CLASS 3 PLATE – 1300M
1st – Chastelain 2nd – Fist Of Fury 3rd – Offyarocka 4th – Vice Or Virtue

Track temperature – 21 degrees Celsius

Trainer K. Lees’ stable representative was advised that a fine of $100 would be imposed under LR. 67 for failing to declare L. Rolls as the rider of BEAUFORT GYRE by the prescribed time.

This race started at 6.08 pm (8 minutes late).

FIST OF FURY (A. Coome) and VICE OR VIRTUE were slow to begin.

Near the 500m JUST ELVIS (C. Eaton) was eased when CASSE SQARETTE (S. Shield) shifted ground.

Near the 100m BEAUFORT GYRE (L. Rolls) was eased when crowded slightly between DARLINGTON COUNTY (N. Tomizawa) and VICE OR VIRTUE, both of which shifted ground slightly. After this BEAUFORT GYRE was again steadied when DARLINGTON COUNTY was taken out by OFFYAROCKA (D. Robinson) which shifted out whilst being ridden with the whip. D. Robinson was reprimanded.

Race 4: CELEBRATE YOUR BIRTHDAY AT THE TTC MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M
1st – Seek The Gold 2nd – Courting Grace 3rd – Dawn Boy 4th – Outback Pride

Track temperature – 19 degrees Celsius

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer D. Gollan for the late declaration of A. Coome as the rider of COURTING GRACE.

Apprentice A. Butler was fined $100 under AR. 85B for accepting the ride but failing to fulfil his engagement on COURT KLINGON. C. Eaton was substituted as the rider of that filly.

On jumping, FULL OF SURPRISES (N. Tomizawa) was crowded between COURTING GRACE (A. Coome) and HERE’S ROGER (J. Letherby), both of which shifted ground slightly.

DAWN BOY (N. Evans) was slow to begin.

S. Shield, the rider of LETHAL ROSE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that after the 1200m he allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in COURTING GRACE being crowded for room for a considerable distance before eventually having to be checked. In the incident WINALONE (S. Bogenhuber) and NO GOOD REASON (R. Payne) were also crowded and bumped on a number of occasions. S. Shield’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 10 March, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 20 March 2013.

Rounding the home turn OUTBACK PRIDE (A. Best), which was hanging in, was crowded slightly between COURTING GRACE and SEEK THE GOLD (R. Goltz), which shifted in slightly.

Also near the 400m COURT KLINGON (C. Eaton) shifted out resulting in DAME DELLA (D. Robinson), which was weakening, having to be steadied.

Race 5: WEETWOOD SATURDAY 13TH APRIL CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1000M
1st – Easy Game 2nd – Rodrigeuz 3rd – Starstreamed 4th – Taimzuptina

Track temperature – 19 degrees Celsius

As A. Taylor was injured prior to Race 1 and had been transported to hospital, A. Best was substituted as the rider of STARSTREAMED.

On jumping, TENSION (S. Shield) was crowded badly for room between UNREFUSEABLE (A. Butler) and RODRIGEUZ (S. Bogenhuber), both of which shifted ground.

Race 6: WEETWOOD CALCUTTA AT THE TTC CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1625M
1st – Break The Moment 2nd – Ariston 3rd – Carlson’s Felt 4th – Sonic Hill

Track temperature – 19 degrees Celsius

P. Holmes (BREAK THE MOMENT) was fined $300 under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account that jockey Holmes had breached this rule on a number of occasions in recent times, including at today’s Doomben meeting.

Race 7: RAY WHITE TOOWOOMBA RANGE MAIDEN H'CAP – 1625M
1st – Flying Dazzler 2nd – Fifth Column 3rd – Idle Minds 4th – Sideshow Summer

Track temperature – 19 degrees Celsius

FIFTH COLUMN (M. Abe) was slow to begin.

On jumping, IDLE MINDS (S. Shield) was checked when crowded between UNDOUBTED GLORY (L. Cheshire) and LETS THINKABOUTIT (S. Bogenhuber), both of which shifted ground.

Jockey M. Abe (FIFTH COLUMN) was severely reprimanded for shifting out near the 400m resulting in SIDESHOW SUMMER (A. Butler) being badly hampered and losing its position.

S. Bogenhuber (LETS THINKABOUTIT) explained that racing into the first turn the horse commenced to race keenly, however both PINOCCHIO JACK (C. Eaton) and HEY MURRI (N. Tomizawa), which were racing to her inside, were also fairly keen and she was concerned that the tempo they were travelling and the fact that her horse was laying out would have made it more detrimental in her opinion to have allowed it to stride forward. She added that she was also of the view that PINOCCHIO JACK may have been able to shift in behind HEY MURRI resulting in her being one off, but when this did not occur it left her racing three wide without cover. She said that whilst her instructions were to go forward and cross if possible, she was of the view that the manner in which the race was run in the early stages would have made it difficult for her to carry out the instructions. Jockey Bogenhuber was advised that her explanation would be noted, however she may have erred in not electing to attempt to press forward at the 1200m.

Apprentice A. Butler (SIDESHOW SUMMER) was fined $300 under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account that apprentice Butler had breached this rule on a number of occasions in recent times.
