Race 1: Welcome Toowoomba Families QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1200m
Track temperature – 23 degrees Celsius
ARCHITECT (A. Spinks) was slow to begin.
LOADED AND READY (P. Robl) began awkwardly.
In the straight, TURBO TEDDY (R. Ride) hung in and proved difficult to ride.
Race 2: Savvy Toys Maiden H'cap – 1300m
Track temperature – 22 degrees Celsius
PARAFIRE was reluctant to proceed to the barriers, resulting in A. Best being dislodged. On arriving at the start, PARAFIRE required to be resaddled causing a slight delay.
HART OF KEN (B. Newport) and SARGENOLLY (G. Geran) were slow to begin.
In the straight, KURRAJONG DRAGON (R. Ride) hung in very badly and proved difficult to ride.
Jockey P. Robl explained that CLAYPOOL was coming back significantly in distance in today’s event. He said in the early stages of the race CLAYPOOL was unable to muster speed and had difficulty maintaining contact and was off the bit for the majority of the race. Jockey Robl added when racing in a rearward position, CLAYPOOL, which was racing on the cushion surface for the first time, appeared to resent the kickback and never travelled at any stage of the race.
Race 3: Fairies On The Downs Class 1 H'cap – 1100m
Track temperature – 21degrees Celsius
DASH FOR DOLLAR (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin and then was reluctant to muster speed in the early stages.
SEEK THE GOLD (A. Best) was bumped at the start by LOUDON (P. Robl), which shifted out.
Approaching the 100m, RHYTHM NATION (R. Goltz) was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for a run inside SOLAR CHOICE (R. Ride), which shifted in.
A. Merritt, rider of BOTH EARS, was reprimanded for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m.
P. Robl reported that LOUDON travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages however proved disappointing when placed under pressure leaving the 600m. He was of the view that despite the filly having its first start on the cushion surface, he was unable to put this down to the poor performance as, in his opinion, LOUDON seemed to handle the track fairly.
Race 4: Little Lions BM80 H'cap – 1625m
Track temperature – 21 degrees Celsius
After being restrained in the early stages, HOLY TOLEDO made the first turn very awkwardly and shifted out and commenced to race fiercely and for this reason its rider elected to improve forward and find a position with cover.
A. Merritt, rider of SECOND GO, was fined $100 for using his whip 7 times prior to the 100m.
Race 5: Neil Mansell Transport QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1100m
Track temperature – 20 degrees Celsius
SMALL CHANGE (B. Newport) began awkwardly.
NOOGOORA BURR (A. Spinks) and PUREST HAVEN (K. Yoshida) were slow to begin.
Near the 400m, A TAD APART (M. Cahill) improved onto the heels of the tiring PUREST HEAVEN (K. Yoshida) and shifted out abruptly, forcing DEMIVAL (N. Tomizawa) wider on the track.
K. Wharton, rider of CRAIGLEA MASTA, was fined $100 for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
Race 6: Ro Murphy Memorial Class 3 H'cap – 1200m
Track temperature – 20 degrees Celsius
BLOODED (R. Goltz) began awkwardly and got its head up.
MAC’S ADDICTION (N. Nishio) began awkwardly.
Near the 800m, JACOBUS (S. Apthorpe) was steadied when awkwardly placed between the heels of ROYAL SHOUT (L. Tarrant) and DANISH LASS (S. Bogenhuber).
R. Ride, rider of LORD LION, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that she allowed her mount to shift out after the 400m and in doing so shifted across the running of STIGORI (B. Appo), which had to be checked. R. Ride was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 2 June 2013 and to expire at midnight, 12 June 2013.
Race 7: XXXX Gold Toowoomba Cup H'cap – 2100m
Track temperature – 19 degrees Celsius
As the gates were released, EXTREME MOVER (M. O'Brien) blundered badly, dislodging apprentice M. O’Brien.
Near the 2000m, SELL THE SILVER (N. Evans) and PRIMED (D. Robinson) were badly crowded for room by the riderless EXTREME MOVER.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, MASTER AVATAR (P. Robl) was inconvenienced by the riderless EXTREME MOVER, which carried MASTER AVATAR wider.
When the riderless EXTREME MOVER moved up outsider the leader BOREHOLE (A. Spinks) near the 1300m, BORE HOLE then commenced to race very keenly before it could be brought under control by its rider near the 1000m.
For some distance after the 600m, EQUISSENTIAL (A. Best) was inconvenienced by BOREHOLE, which shifted out.
For some distance after the 500m, DODGING EDDIE (M. Cahill) was held up behind PEACE TALKS (N. Tomizawa) and MASTER AVATAR, which was weakening.
D. Robinson, rider of PRIMED, was fined $100 for using his whip 7 times prior to 100m.
Race 8: Racing In Qld BM85 H'cap – 1100m
Track temperature – 19 degrees Celsius
RATTLE ‘N’ RUN (R. Ride) and BAQABA (T. Jeffries) were slow to begin.
After obtaining cover, TRAIL BOSS raced keenly in the middle stages.
D. McMaster rider of FEAR NO OTHER, was fined $100 for using her whip 8 times prior to the 100m.
N. Tomizawa explained that SOMNAMBULIST was fractious in the gates today and when it began it jumped awkwardly and made fairly hard contact with the right gate. After this, he rode SOMNAMBULIST hard however he was unable to obtain a position and consequently raced extremely hard without cover. He said the horse travelled rounding the turn, however in the straight was unable to quicken and compounded over the final 100m. Trainer T. Sears stated that SOMNAMBULIST has had some time between its runs due mainly to race condition issues, and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality that becomes apparent with the horse.
