Cornish stated that the filly was having its third run from a spell for the stable and had shown a tendency to overrace in its two previous starts which he felt had a bearing on the filly being able to finish its races off. He added that he had removed the blinkers in an attempt to get SNOW CHOICE to settle in its races, which he believed contributed to the improved performance and also that the horse had benefited from the two previous runs. Stewards noted the explanation.
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice R. Ride with regards to the performance of TRUE MALT, which performed below market expectation. Apprentice Ride stated that the mare began well and travelled comfortably in the early stages, however was under pressure from the 700m and failed to respond to her riding. She added that TRUE MALT was having its first start from a spell and believed that the mare would benefit from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination of TRUE MALT revealed no abnormalities.
