Race 1: Maydan Feedlot Maiden Handicap 800m

OUTBACK IMAGE (K. Yoshida) was checked and lost ground at the start when tightened for room between BOOT SHAKER (S. Bogenhuber) and OKINAWA (C. Jokic) when both runners shifted ground.

VALLEY OF SUCCESS (S. Apthorpe) began awkwardly.

Approaching the 600m ELLIE BAY (B. Newport) was eased when placed in restricted room between CROWN THE BOSS and A PRINCE FOR LACEY (R. Ride) when both runners shifted marginally.

BOOT SHAKER hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.

Near the 200m A PRINCE FOR LACEY was steadied away from the heels of ELLIE BAY which shifted out when placed under pressure. B. Newport the rider of ELLIE BAY was advised to exercise greater care in future.

N. Evans, rider of the 3rd placegetter, INSOLENT, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b), in that he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race, which, in the opinion of the stewards, cost his mount 2nd placing. N. Evans was fined the sum of $500.


Race 2: Warwick RSL Memorial Club Maiden Plate 1200m

Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of AMUNDSEN BOY at 1.46 pm, when after the gelding was reluctant to proceed to the barriers, it then broke away from Apprentice M. Cox who had dismounted and galloped a significant distance before being recaptured. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on AMUNDSEN BOY be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers made prior to 1.46 pm:

0 cents in the dollar for the win – MASSIE BELLE
4 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner – MASSIE BELLE
3 cents in the dollar for second place – TIERRO
3 cents in the dollar for third place – SARGENOLLY

Trainer G. Teal will be advised that a warning will be placed on the pre-race manners of AMUNDSEN BOY.

SARGENOLLY (S. Apthorpe) which was fractious in the barriers was then reluctant to jump and lost considerable ground. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of that gelding. Jockey S. Apthorpe reported that he sustained an injury to his right leg when his mount became fractious in the barriers, he advised stewards that he was fit to fulfill his remaining engagements.

CARDWELL (B. Newport) was slow to begin and raced wide for the majority of the race.

STILTSKIN (G. Geran) raced wide throughout.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for MAGNETIC ANNIE being checked near the 600m. Stewards will interview jockey D. Robinson regarding the reason for him leaving the course without permission.

TIERRO hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.

Approaching the 200m TIERRO (R. Johnston-Bell) shifted out under pressure resulting in STILTSKIN having to shift out and away from that runner. Apprentice Johnston-Bell was advised to make greater efforts to keep his mounts straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of FINGERS IN THE TILL, which finished a distant last, failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Apprentice N. Nishio (CAMBO’S MATE) was severely reprimanded for using the whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.


Race 3: Olsens Produce Class B Handicap 1350m

TIME FOR INDI (D. Green) refused to jump with the field losing significant ground which resulted in the gelding not taking any competitive part in the race. Trainer J. Hanna was advised that TIME FOR INDI must trial to the satisfaction stewards before being permitted to race again.

ROCKLEA RAIDER (K. Yoshida) jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

PILOT ERROR (B. Newport) shifted out on jumping away and when being corrected lost ground.

WARSHIP (B. Ainsworth) dipped shortly after the start.

KARANGELA (N. Evans) overraced in the middle stages.

SIR BLAZE overraced in the early stages and near the 1000m was restrained from the heels of OPEN HEART (B. Powell).

D. McMaster (COMMANDER BOLTZ) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the specifics being that she permitted her mount to shift in near the 500m when insufficiently clear of SIR BLAZE which was taken in and tightened the running of LIADAIN which had to be checked and lost ground. D. McMaster’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings, to commence at midnight 20 April and to expire on midnight 27 April 2013.

FLAG ‘N’ FURY (J. Letherby) and ROCKLEA RAIDER raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of FLAG ‘N’ FURY which weakened significantly from the 600m, failed to reveal any abnormalities.


Race 4: Warwick RSL Memorial Club Long Tan Open Handicap 1100m

TICTACS (C. Jokic) hung out near the 800m and was eased from the heels of CANADIAN JOY (B. Ainsworth).

TICTACS hung out when placed under pressure in the home straight, resulting in the rider having difficulty in fully testing her mount.


Race 5: Warwick RSL Memorial Club Benchmark 65 Handicap 1100m

PATH TO FREEDEOM (S. Drake) and ANNETTE’S PUMKIN (B. Powell) were slow to begin.

DANCING AL (D. Green) put its head down as the start was effected which resulted in that runner beginning awkwardly and losing ground.

SEQUALO GOLD (M. Cox) shifted out and bumped BANDERIN (R. Ride).

Shortly after the start, AUGUST BISHOP (R. Johnston-Bell) shifted out and made heavy contact with BUILT TOUGH (D. McMaster) which was turned inwards onto AUGUST BISHOP which blundered and lost ground.

STEPHEN GOT EVEN (S. Apthorpe) raced wide in the early stages.

BUILT TOUGH raced wide throughout.

D. Green the rider of DANCING AL was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish of the race.

When asked to comment on the performance of BANDERIN, R. Ride stated that the mare raced keenly throughout the event and when under pressure near the 600m failed to respond to her riding. She added that she had recommended to connections to remove the blinkers in an attempt to get BANDERIN to settle in its races.

Stewards sought an explanation from Apprentice R. Johnston-Bell with regards to the below market performance of AUGUST BISHOP. He stated that after losing ground at the start his mount raced keenly throughout and was forced to race wide throughout. He added that his mount ran on fairly and was not totally disappointing bearing in mind the circumstances shortly after the start. Stewards will interview trainer K. Kemp at a later date with regards to the performance.
