When asked about the performance of LES REMARQUABLES, jockey F. Jervis stated that her mount which was having its first start, raced greenly early and after balancing her mount it settled at the back of the field. She added that the mare continued to race greenly and for this reason she elected to position LES EMARQUABLES to the outside of runners when making her run approaching the home turn. She further added after being forced wide on the home turn, she was able to balance her mount and it then finished the race of well.
Race 2: Bill & Margaret Hoiberg Memorial Ratings Band 0-55 Handicap 1350m
Correct weight was delayed to allow T. Banks, the rider of second placed GIRLS ON THE AVENUE, the opportunity to view the official patrol footage to establish if there were grounds to protest against HI HI being declared the winner. Leaving the 100m GIRLS ONTHE AVENUE was steadied momentarily and shifted to the inside of HI HI (N. Ogura) which laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. N. Ogura was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out.
Apprentice T. Williams (CYRANO) stated that she was forced to pressure her mount from the barriers in an attempt to keep in contact with the field. She added that CYRANO never travelled comfortably at any stage and raced like a tired horse. Stable representative Mr D. Murray advised stewards that CYRANO would now be sent for an immediate spell.
Stewards sought a comment from apprentice J. Greacen with regards to the seemingly disappointing performance of SOUL POWERED. She stated that her instructions were to ride forward and lead if possible which was how the horse was ridden when successful at its previous start. She added that she obtained a forward position but raced wide when unable to cross runners to her inside. She further added that SOUL POWERED travelled well until the 600m however when placed under pressure failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. Stewards will interview trainer A. Barnes at a later date regarding the performance of SOUL POWERED.
T. Banks (GIRLS ON THE AVENUR) was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than five occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 4: Carey Bros Meats Class 1 Handicap 1500m
Stewards permitted M. O’Brien to ride DANCING AL a half a kilogram over its minimum allotted weight.
Correct weight was delayed to allow connections of EASY TO SMILE and DANCING AL an opportunity to view the official patrol footage to establish if those runners were afforded a fair start. After viewing the available footage, connections of both runners indicated that they did not wish to proceed further.
EASY TO SMILE (R. Goltz) which was fractious in the barriers began awkwardly and lost significant ground.
DANCING AL (M. O’Brien) which was fractious in the barriers reared as the gates opened and lost ground.
RATHGIBBON (B. Ainsworth) raced wide throughout and was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
B. Cornell the rider of SAYORI, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, the specifics being that he made insufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in near the 900m when insufficiently clear of M’SIEUR MONTPELIER (B. Newport) resulting in that runner having to be checked and lose ground. B. Cornell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence at midnight 22 July and to expire at midnight 30 July 2014.
After the running of this race, jockey C. Spry was stood down from riding by Ambulance officers.

She added that once under pressure, her mount failed to respond to her riding and felt that it had failed to run out the distance of today’s event. When interviewed, trainer S. Essery agreed with apprentice Ainsworth’s comments and stated that mare would now go for an immediate spell.
M. O’Brien (KING OF JACKS) stated that her mount which was first up from a spell, was fractious in the barriers and never travelled comfortably at any stage of the race
