RACE 5 CLASS 6 HCP.1000 METRES (6 STARTERS):. Upon return to scale a protest was lodged by S. Quick the rider of second place getter STORM HALO against the winner STORMY CIRCLES ridden by T. Williams, alleging interference approaching the 800 metre turn.
After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol films, it was established that approaching the 800 metres STORM HALO (S. Quick) was obliged to steady off the heels of DUST STORMER (D. Whitmore) which shifted in. Stewards could not be satisfied that STORMY CIRCLES (T. Williams) which was racing to the outside of DUST STORMER had any direct bearing on this incident and the protest was dismissed.
Approaching the 450 metres STORM HALO shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so tightened CHARIOT’S RHYTHM (C. Johnston) onto TIME TO ANSWER (A. Williams). S.Quick rider of STORM HALO, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
A post race vet examination of TIME TO ANSWER revealed the gelding had suffered a laceration to the off hind leg.
