At about the 750 metres, ALYTAAT (D. Missen) shifted out to improve, forcing SUPER STROP (App. J. Letherby) wider on the track.
In the middle stages GREMMO (App. A. Butler) and ARRIVEALIVE (App. S. Evans) raced wide.
Approaching the 100 metres ALYTAAT (D. Missen) shifted out abruptly under pressure.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DREAM WARRIOR, Jockey R. Wiggins stated that it was his intention to lead today, however due to the considerable amount of speed in the race he obtained a position behind the leaders. R. Wiggins added that the horse travelled well early, however when asked for an effort from the 600 metres DREAM WARRIOR did not respond to his riding and was a beaten horse at the entrance to the straight. Trainer J. Manzelmann representative agreed that the horse was disappointing and could only add that the horse had led when successful in the past and not being able to take up that role today may have had a bearing on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of DREAM WARRIOR did not reveal any abnormalities.

On returning to scale, Jockey A. Pattillo advised stewards that he had eased RACING FOR GOLD out of the race over the final 200 metres when he became concerned with the horse’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that RACING FOR GOLD was sore in the near fore hoof (frog). Trainer Mr A. Jenkinson will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for the mare prior to it being permitted to race again.
Stewards will question Jockey M. Cullen about his use of the whip on FLYING OPTION in the straight.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on GOORAM, Jockey D. Missen explained that the horse began tardily and in the first 200 metres of the event was reluctant to stretch out. D. Missen added that GOORAM then commenced to make up ground on the field, however near the 700 metres became awkward in its action and again lost ground. He further added that approaching the 500 metres he placed GOORAM under pressure and that the horse ran on only fairly when gaining ground on tiring horses in the final 100m. D. Missen was of the opinion that the horse would be better suited over longer distances than todays race. Stewards noted the explanation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED AND PRE-RACE SAMPLES WERE TAKEN FROM GREMMO, SUPER STROP, MIGHTY MALOUVER, FLASH ROMEO, SPECTACULAR PIC AND FUHRMIDABLE
