SLICE OF HEAVEN (5) will strip fitter following his return from a spell and will appreciate the return to the front line. Rounding out his prep last season with a hat-trick of victories he didn’t have much luck when resuming off gate 12 when there was an early scrimmage. The 2138m looks ideal.
SHARDS HALO (1) rolled forward from gate 6 last start in a mares qualifier and with no lead was forced to do the heavy lifting and was too strong to the line. A winner 3 starts back when racing in the pocket trail and sprinting sharply when the gap opened she has the options to call on here.
TYGAR (10) was absolutely luckless last start when locked away in the run and never seeing space. Unfortunately he races like that a lot with his pattern, but if gets some luck he will swoop hard.
Put a line through the run of CLINTAL DO (8) here 2 starts back when he was never in the action after striking trouble. He bounced back with a big Tamworth win and will be probing for gaps here.
SELECTIONS: SLICE OF HEAVEN (5), SHARDS HALO (1), TYGAR (10), CLINTAL DO (8)
SUGGESTED BET: SLICE OF HEAVEN (5) to win
MARK OF INTEGRITY (2) just hasn’t been able to crack a win this campaign in Qld but he finally looks to get conditions to suit here. He did a mountain of work here on Tues and went down swinging when only beaten a half-neck. That followed a tough run from gate 7 and this looks his breakthrough.
RANFURLY RULZ (1) can look to make the most of the inside gate here after some mixed returns in 3 runs at the track. He was always facing a task on Tues to make ground from back in the pack behind TOM ME GUN and his previous 2 were from wide gates. With the options can be right in the fight.
SQUIRE (8) had a solid crack for the front over the 2138m last start but with no lead was able to drop in for the trail but hampered by a tiring leader snagged the bronze. Will need some luck from the 8.
SOMEMONDOSOMEWHERE (11) is 2 from 2 since arriving in Qld with both wins coming when leading throughout at both the sprint and middle distance. He will need to chase here but is worthy of inclusion.
SELECTIONS: MARK OF INTEGRITY (2), RANFURLY RULZ (1), SQUIRE (8), SOMEOMEMONDOSOMEWHERE (11)
SUGGESTED BET: MARK OF INTEGRITY (2) to win
COMPLY OR DIE (8) will luck from inside the 2nd line and while he does tend to do his best work when out in front, he will get the perfect trip and be ready to strike. He landed victory in the heats of this series when leading throughout and was only a half-neck away 2 starts back. Just needs a gap.
DUKE OF ALBANY (1) was forced to face the breeze in the heats from gate 2 and was in for the fight when not beaten far. He will take benefit from the run as he had almost 6 weeks between runs and hustling early to protect the pegs will be trying to fight them off.
WATTLEBANK FLYER (11) appreciated the claiming company when finishing over the top to score a 1.5m victory in the heats. Possessing a slick closing sprint, look for him swooping hard.
OUR MELS DREAM (2) worked home from well back to grab the silver behind COMPLY OR DIE 3 starts back and was absolutely luckless at his next run. He can be thereabouts if limiting the work.
SELECTIONS: COMPLY OR DIE (8), DUKE OF ALBANY (1), WATTLEBANK FLYER (11), OUR MELS DREAM (2)
SUGGESTED BET: COMPLY OR DIE (8) to win
ELENIARK (1) was brave in defeat last week from gate 7 in the Forever Gold after cutting the breeze outside SMOOTH SHOWGIRL and going down fighting. After returning with 3 successive wins and each stepping it up from the previous, she can take full advantage of the ace here to score.
GANGSTER BOY (6) should appreciate getting back to this class of race after taking on the Christmas Cup last start. Starting from gate 7 he was sent forward and did plenty of work in the run before fading late. A mile winner 2 starts back from the front he will throw down a challenge.
FRANCO TOTEM (10) was able to find the pocket trail last start after an early scrimmage and once there secured a perfect trip and used the passing lane to score. Despite the gate he can swoop late.
ADMIRAL BRONSKI (8) will find this easier than last start in the Be Good Johnny when he doing plenty of work wide out. With a cosy trip here look for him taking the shohrtcuts.
SELECTIONS: ELENIARK (1), GANGSTER BOY (6), FRANCO TOTEM (10), ADMIRAL BRONSKI (8)
SUGGESTED BET: ELENIARK (1) to win
SECRET JACK (12) was resuming from a spell last start and found the pocket trail and up the passing lane was able to get within a half-head of the winner BATTLE BORN. Fitter from the outing, he secured a hat-trick of wins prior to going for a break and despite a tough gate is worth a ticket.
NUI TOC TIEN (11) started from gate 7 last week and with the field spread right out with some early interference was a long way back in the pack. His closing sectionals were superb as he was hitting the line strongly when 5m from FRANCO TOTEM. With the right cart into the contest he can feature.
RICH VIRGIN (8) chased gamely last start to grab the silver behind COLT THIRTY ONE. That followed a tough run when beaten a head behind DARK ENERGY and if sighting space can charge late.
LENNY THE LEGEND (5) was a winner here on Tues when finishing best from back in the pack to score by a half-neck. A winner 3 starts back he will be right in the thick of it again here.
SELECTIONS: SECRET JACK (12), NUI TOC TIEN (11), RICH VIRGIN (8), LENNY THE LEGEND (5)
SUGGESTED BET: SECRET JACK (12) each-way.
NEEDLE (12) came into this series in great touch and put the writing on the wall in the first round heats when scoring a dominant victory by getting forward early and taking control and cruising home to score. Working in the run over the 2138m heat, the rise in distance for the final will work in her favour.
MONARO MIA (3) tackled NEEDLE in the first round heats and was working home fairly to grab 4th. In Round 2 she was sent forward to the breeze and fought hard in proving too strong to score by 8m. Her starting manners are a concern but doing everything right she will prove hard to stop.
IONA GRINNER (15) was doing plenty of work in the first round when wide off the track and well beaten behind NEEDLE. Her closing sectionals were strong last time behind MONARO MIA and she can be running on.
MIRACLE RISING (4) stepped straight to the front last start over the 2138m and once in control never looked in danger in fighting them all off. His start is all important and he can feature.
SELECTIONS: NEEDLE (12), MONARO MIA (3), IONA GRINNER (15), MIRACLE RISING (4)
SUGGESTED BET: NEEDLE (12) to win
FAME ASSURED (8) will strip fitter for her return run when responsible for a big effort to score a strong C1 event from gate 12. Closing strongly over the mile she was able to attack the line for a strong 6m victory. With the perfect trip expected here, look for her shooting the gap in the stretch.
LIFEONTHEBEACH (10) started from gate 12 last start in a 2nd division qualifier and was hitting the line strongly to grab the silver behind the all-the-way winner SOMEMONDOSOMEWHERE. Luckless the start prior from gate 7 when snagged back, he can find position and close out strongly.
JACK FARTHING (2) was disappointing on face value last start when he looked to have conditions to suit but couldn’t go on with it. A nice Menangle winner 2 starts back, forgive the run and he can be sharper.
AQUA MISS (1) found the front from gate 2 last start and after being tested in the lead fought gamely when holding on for 2nd behind MR KALYPSO. Fitter from the run she will offer plenty to chase down.
SELECTIONS: FAME ASSURED (8), LIFEONTHEBEACH (10), JACK FARTHING (2), AQUA MISS (1)
SUGGESTED BET: FAME ASSURED (8) to win
COLT THIRTY ONE (13) stepped up to open company with the greatest of ease last start in taking out the Christmas Cup and putting them away in good style. It was good to see him come with a closing run rather than doing it tough and he found the line strongly, making the tough gate here not as big an obstacle with plenty of tempo expected. He can continue on his winning ways.
GLENFERRIE HOOD (2) has been freshened since he was last seen back in Oct after fading off over the 2280m trip at Redcliffe. That followed 3 successive wins including an all the way effort over this trip. Given a mid-week trial to sharpen for this, he has the speed to find the pegs and will set a target.
AZTEC BROMAC (3) had little luck in the Be Good Johnny and then last week was finding the line strongly after being buried in the run. Looking to defend his title in this race, he can settle handy from the gate and can throw down a challenge.
RAKAROLLA (4) skipped the Christmas Cup after scoring a passing lane victory in the Be Good Johnny here a fortnight back. A strong 3rd to MAJORDAN 2 starts back when working home wide out, he can be right in the mix here.
SELECTIONS: COLT THIRTY ONE (13), GLENFERRIE HOOD (2), AZTEC BROMAC (3), RAKAROLLA (4)
SUGGESTED BET: COLT THIRTY ONE (13) to win
TRILIGHT BRIGADE (4) is yet to miss a top-two finish in 5 Qld appearances and will relish getting back to mares only company here. Starting from inside the 2nd line last start she was away from the pegs early and was tracking home strongly wide-out when beaten a half-head. She looks too classy.
IM NORMA JEAN (2) has recaptured some form and last start was hitting the line strongly to grab the silver in a strong race when 6m from the winner FAME ASSURED. A big Redcliffe winner 3 starts back when sent to the front from gate 5 and dictating, she can be 1st to the pegs here.
ARGYLE BEACH (12) was charging home from back in the pack last start and was only 4m from the winner SHARDS HALO. Luckless when never seeing daylight 2 starts back, she will be swooping hard.
KOTARE KASAI (8) will need her share of luck from this gate but with the cosy trip expected can be probing for the openings. She hit the line hard 2 starts back and last start was within 5m of the winner. She has podium claims.
SELECTIONS: TRILIGHT BRIGADE (4), IM NORMA JEAN (2), ARGYLE BEACH (12), KOTARE KASAI (8)
SUGGESTED BET: TRILIGHT BRIGADE (4) to win
JUSTABITCOCO (9) will strip fitter from her return from a spell here last week when she worked home strongly and put a margin on them to score a 14m victory. That was a 2138m mobile event and she gets back to the tapes where she can step safely and be working home strongly.
OLE SUN (14) didn’t have the clearest passage last start when working home in good order from this same impost and was only 4.5m from the winner. Fitter from that run following a freshen, he can look for a trail into the contest here and throw down a big challenge.
REDRIVERDEBBA (6) was three-wide the trip here last week under the mobile conditions and it was a solid effort in holding on for 4th. Holding on for a narrow win on Wed night, she will be right in the fight.
QUIETLY SPOKEN (13) is the emergency for the DJA and getting back into this will appreciate the class drop despite the 40m tape. She fought hard from the breeze when 10m from MIRACLE RISING last start and she can feature in this.
SELECTIONS: JUSTABITCOCO (9), OLE SUN (14), REDRIVERDEBBA (6), QUIETLY SPOKEN (13)
SUGGESTED BET: JUSTABITCOCO (9) each-way
