Sydney trainer Joe Pride believes Passage Of Time has gone to another level since going under the surgeon’s knife and is hopeful his resurgence continues in the Group 3 BRC Sprint at Doomben on Saturday.

Passage Of Time is raced by Gooree Stud and won four of his first eight starts but his form fell away after being runner-up in the Ladies Day Cup at Hawkesbury in November 2017.

He failed to place in five starts in his subsequent campaign before failing in another three runs last time in before Pride sent him back to the paddock.

Pride has a great reputation with tired horses and had Passage Of Time gelded at the start of his current campaign.

Since racing as a gelding at his last two starts, Pride is amazed with Passage Of Time’s change in attitude.

He resumed at Randwick on April 22 finishing a close second to Top Striker in a Benchmark race over 1200 metres before a commanding two length win over 1250 metres on the Kensington track at Randwick on May 4.

“He’s a different horse since being gelded,” Pride said.

“His two runs this campaign indicate he’s come back a more genuine horse.

“Horses don’t stop maturing until they’re six or seven and he’s spent a lot of time floating in and out and he’s now ready to fulfill his potential.”

Pride won his first Group 1 in the Doomben 10,000 in 2005 with Red Oog and has since gone on the win 11 races at the highest level.

Pride’s last Group 1 win was with Terravista in the Lightning Handicap at Flemington in February last year.

The Warwick Farm trainer is chasing his second win in the BRC Sprint following Tiger Tees’ win in 2003.

“Tiger Tees ended up winning a Group 1 but I’m not sure if he falls into that category just yet,” Pride said.

“He’s a bit of a mystery but he’s nominated for the Stradbroke and we’ll just see how he goes tomorrow before making decisions about his future.”
