Punter's Guide to Thoroughbred Tracks
CHAPTER ONE (3) makes his debut at Redcliffe but comes to the triangle in good form with wins in 2 of his past 3 starts. Working to the front from gate 5 last start he took control over the mile and held on to score by 1.5m. He will need to hustle hard early but finding the pegs will take stopping.
MATCH POINT (8) will take good benefit from his 1st Qld outing last week when settling back in the pack from a 2nd line gate. Starting fav he found the line in good style to be within 5.5m of the winner WITHALOTOFLUCK. With even luck in transit he will be right in the fight.
SPARKLING CULLECT (1) is another making his first appearance at Redcliffe and can use the inside advantage to find the podium. He did too much work in the run last start and with the cosy trip here can be an improver.
OUR HI JINX (10) was closing out hard last start to get within a head of the winner. Only 3m away 3 starts back, he will be fitter following 3 runs back from a spell and will be working home wide off the track.
SELECTIONS: CHAPTER ONE (3), MATCH POINT (8), SPARKLING CULLECT (1), OUR HI JINX (10)
SUGGESTED BET: CHAPTER ONE (3) to win
SAMS A CHAMP (3) was hitting the line strongly last start from a 2nd line gate and went within a half-head of the victory. Only beaten a similar margin 3 starts back that effort followed successive wins over the 2280m trip here. With a strong record on the track he can look to capitalise.
WHISKEY BLAZE (1) found the perfect position in the run last start and when able to work into open space cleared out to score a comfortable victory. He has been building towards that with some tidy performances and with a cosy run in transit will be ready to ask the questions in the stretch.
BATTLE BORN (4) returns from a break and has been given a solid pipe-opener at the trials to prepare for his return. Only 1.5m from BODHI TREE 2 starts back with even luck he can arrive late.
THE IDES OF MARCH (10) has been in good touch and took out a qualifier 2 starts back when pressing to the front from gate 5 and proving too strong. Fighting hard from the breeze last start he will be in the mix again.
SELECTIONS: SAMS A CHAMP (3), WHISKEY BLAZE (1), BATTLE BORN (4), THE IDES OF MARCH (10)
TOP TRIO (1) has been freshened since he was last seen when buried in the run and hitting the line nicely when 6m from WITHALOTOFLUCK. A passing lane winner over the AP mile 4 starts back, he will get the options here and with some fast closing moves looks hard to stop.
THE SHADY ONE (3) has not been seen since making a mess of the start in the Redcliffe Cup back in June. He had taken out a stand race here over the 2613m trip leading in to that when hitting the line strongly. Given a pipe opener at the trials on Tues he will be looking to throw down the challenge.
THE SPACE INVADER (7) resumes from a break and has been around in a trial taken out by MACH ALERT. 5m from the winner MAJESTIC MAJOR last start, he can use the inside line to find the podium.
REMEMBER THEM (8) was a winner 5 starts back when pressing on to the front from gate 5 and taking them all the way. With duck-eggs his next 4, that is not a fair representation of how he is travelling and he has some hope here.
SELECTIONS: TOP TRIO (1), THE SHADY ONE (3), THE SPACE INVADER (7), REMEMBER THEM (8)
SUGGESTED BET: TOP TRIO (1) to win
THE CHARGING MOA (2) bounced back to winning form at AP on Tues when sent straight to the front from gate 4 and keeping the speed on all the way to score a comfortable 7m victory. Fitter from that run, she can look to get straight to the pegs and will take some catching.
ANNIKA MAGIC (1) has a solid record here on the triangle and with the benefit of the ace gate will be right in the thick of the action. Doing plenty of work in the run 2 starts back and only 4m from the winner, she will be looking to take a closing shot.
NUI TOC TIEN (3) will strip fitter following his latest start when 1st up from a break. Settling back in the pack he was charging late to be within 4m of the winner BET IM SPECIAL. Finding the line in good order in a mid-week trial, he will be closing hard.
OUTLAW FELLA (4) was responsible for a big effort last start when striking trouble in the run and still charging home to get within 7m of the winner. Yet to win in 4 trips to Redcliffe, he will be in the mix.
SELECTIONS: THE CHARGING MOA (2), ANNIKA MAGIC (1), NUI TOC TIEN (3), OUTLAW FELLA (4)
SUGGESTED BET: THE CHARGING MOA (2) to win
JACKS AT THE BEACH (1) made the most of earning his ticket back to the main draw when pressing on to the front from gate 2 over the mile 2 starts back and taking them all the way. Setting the tempo over his less preferred middle distance last start he couldn’t see it out. Back to the sprint trip suits.
TOP FLIGHT CRUIZE (2) was snagged back from gate 7 in a qualifier over the 2138m trip 2 starts back and was attacking the line in the closing stages to get within 3.5m of the winner to claim the silver. He did his share of early work last start and with a great record at the track can ask the questions here.
GOVINNI (7) has met some stronger line-ups at his past 2 starts and returned tidy efforts in each. From the gate he will get the perfect trip and coiled and ready to take the snipers shot.
TED WEST (5) has been freshened since his last outing when chasing bravely to hold down 4th. He has run into some smart winners with his past 3 behind SLICE OF HEAVEN, NONE BETTOR and SECRET JACK.
SELECTIONS: JACKS AT THE BEACH (1), TOP FLIGHT CRUIZE (2), GOVINNI (7), TED WEST (5)
LILAC FLASH (6) is airborne at present and will be looking to make it 4 in succession after completing a hat-trick of AP victories last start. Settling in the running line he closed out hard to arrive for the narrowest of victories. The gate is no luxury but sitting off and waiting for the closing shot can arrive.
MY ULTIMATE FELLA (4) was warming to a win after 3 successive placed runs and was able to take full advantage and cash-in after a tough run from the breeze in a conditioned event. Forget his last start when too far back off gate 12, he can press forward here and will throw down the challenge.
BUCKHORN EXCHANGE (1) was behind the leader last start but had no answer when the pace went on and was left standing. Back to the triangle is a plus and he will be probing for the opening.
BIG BRUCE (10) arrived along the passing lane last start to claim a tidy win in running good closing panels. A strong winner of a 2nd division qualifier 3 back he will be looking to work home late.
SELECTIONS: LILAC FLASH (6), MY ULTIMATE FELLA (4), BUCKHORN EXCHANGE (1), BIG BRUCE (10)
SUGGESTED BET: LILAC FLASH (6) to win
GLENFERRIE HOOD (6) bounced back to winning form last start when finding the pegs from gate 3 and then setting a solid tempo in front over the 2138m trip. Run down when looking to lead all the way 2 starts back, he can be set alight early here and might just be able to clear and from the front will take some catching.
BODHI TREE (1) was in the pocket trail after starting from inside the 2nd line last week and with his momentum just marginally held up he then didn’t have anything to offer up the passing lane. From the gate he gets the options and with cover on the right runner will be taking the closing shot.
ALLELUIA (5) could only get within 6m of GLENFERRIE HOOD last start when in search of his 5th successive victory. He was given a mid-week trial to open the pipes and was impressive in hitting the line hard. He will be right in the fight.
OHOKA PUNTER (2) has claimed the bronze at his past 3 in succession the latest when working home strongly from the 2nd line and beaten 4m behind GLENFERRIE HOOD. Can he breakthrough and end an 18 month winless streak?
SELECTIONS: GLENFERRIE HOOD (6), BODHI TREE (1), ALLELUIA (5), OHOKA PUNTER (2)
NOVENA ROSE (9) has been freshened since her latest outing when scoring a strong win in a Marburg to Albion Final. 2nd to the smart filly DARKERSHADEOFPALE 2 starts back in a mares qualifier when chasing gamely, she can look to overcome the tough gate and take the prize.
NERIO (6) is knocking on the door to win a mares qualifier and can give this a shake despite the tough gate. Sent forward from gate 7 last start she did all the work and went down fighting when beaten 3m. That followed a nice 3rd behind ARGYLE BEACH and with a great record on the triangle can arrive.
STEVIE DEE (5) was too far back in the pack to issue a challenge last start after snagging back from gate 6. With wins in 3 of her 4 previous starts and all when doing her share of work, she has claims.
CAESARS ASTRUM (1) was sent forward in the early stages last start from gate 7 at AP and did her share of work before fading late. With the improved gate she will get a perfect trip and can feature.
SELECTIONS: NOVENA ROSE (9), NERIO (6), STEVIE DEE (5), CAESARS ASTRUM (1)
SUGGESTED BET: NOVENA ROSE (9) to win
IVANOV (3) found the front before releasing and holding on for the silver behind RELEVEN DREAM 2 starts back and then last start found the pocket trail and finished best to score a tidy 3m victory. With great manners from the tapes, he can take control and might just be able to sneak away with it.
MIRACLE RISING (5) is 2 from 2 since arriving in Aus with a win from the mobile and 1 from the tapes. From 40m here over the 2280m last start he was sent forward early to find the breeze and packed too many guns to score by 11m. This is a step up in class but the front is a big plus.
OUR OVERANOVA (11) made the most of the mobile conditions last start over the 2138m trip when displaying his class. Starting fav 2 starts back he was 9m from the winner RELEVEN DREAM and can feature.
MELPARK ROYAL SON (7) will be 1st up from a spell but has been to the trials 6 times in readiness for his return. With a cosy trip he can chime into the exotics and will take benefit from this run.
SELECTIONS: IVANOV (3), MIRACLE RISING (5), OUR OVERANOVA (11), MELPARK ROYAL SON (7)
SUGGESTED BET: IVANOV (3) each-way
TAKITIMU EXPRESS (3) was 2nd up in Qld here on Wed when he was driven patiently and when given his calling went straight past them. Fitter from that run and with a heat run of this series when chasing hard but running out of time, he can make the most of this.
IM TOOT (6) has won 3 of his past 4 starts and finished a 2m 2nd in the other. Sent around the field quickly to find the breeze in his heat of this series, he fought hard to the line to take the win. A winner here 3 starts back after a strong run from gate 6, he can give this a shake.
CONCENTRATION (1) made the most of a front line gate to get to the pegs and once in control take them all the way in the Marburg heat. He gets the chance to look for another all the way win.
WEE JIMMY (8) was luckless in the heat of this series and scraped into the final. Staring at AP on Tues he found the line in good style to grab the silver and has exotic hopes again here.
SELECTIONS: TAKITIMU EXPRESS (3), IM TOOT (6), CONCENTRATION (1), WEE JIMMY (8)
SUGGESTED BET: TAKITIMU EXPRESS (3) to win
