Talented three-year-old Enterprise Pomme booked a start in next month’s $500,000 Queensland Jewel with a brilliant debut win for her new stable at Doomben on Saturday.

Enterprise Pomme stepped out for the first time for co-trainers Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted and led all the way to down General Wolffe by half-a-length in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap.

A daughter of ill-fated sire, Spill The Beans, Enterprise Pomme had her first start for Deagon-trainer Michael Lakey before she headed interstate finishing fourth for Sydney trainer Gerald Ryan in the Group 2 Furious Stakes at Rosehill last September.

She had two more starts for Lakey after returning home before transferring to the in-form O’dea and Hoysted stable at Eagle Farm.

“She’s a really nice filly and Mick Lakey did a great job before we got her,” Hoysted said.

“Her win was fantastic but it’s taken us a little while to work her out.

“She’s got a high cruising speed and can quicken off that so we’re hoping there’s better races in store for her.”

Hoysted said the Queensland Jewel over 1200 metres at the Gold Coast on March 19 was her immediate goal.

“We’ll keep an eye on her for the next week and there’s a race in about three weeks for her before the Jewel or she could go straight into the Jewel and possibly just have a trial,” he said.

“It’s an awkward time for her as she hopefully can play a part in the winter carnival.

“But The Jewel is worth good money so she can go there and hopefully have a little break before the winter.”

Meanwhile Tony Gollan's promising galloper Knight Mariner produced an eye-catching run in his comeback from serious injury in the No Metropolitan Win Handicap over 1350 metres.

Knight Mariner was having his first start in 20 months and ran home strongly to finish fourth to the Michael Costa-trained Cracker Essgee.

The five-year-old was having his first start since fracturing his pelvis in the Group 3 Winx Guineas at the Sunshine Coast in July, 2020.

Knight Mariner, who was once touted as a Queensland Derby hope, looked the winner of the Winx Stakes before suffering the injury about 150 metres out.

During his recuperation he also suffered a hind leg injury which further delayed his comeback.
