From 30.5.17 – Race 4.
After hearing evidence from Apprentice N. Summers (ROCK ON SKYE), Stewards did not proceed with the charge of careless riding against Apprentice B. Northdurft (WINNING KISS). It was established that while WINNING KISS had shifted in and tightened MON CLINTON and NACIREMA, shortly after when going forward ROCK ON SKYE had momentarily tightened WINNING KISS, which was unable to relieve pressure to runners to his inside.
From 17.6.17 – Race 1.
BOY IN A MILLION – Was treated for a respiratory infection and will be freshened up prior to its next race start.
Jockey A. Butler made application to ride below the previously imposed weight restriction of 57kg in the Rockhampton Cup. Medical evidence was supplied to support this application. Stewards acceded to this application and he was permitted to ride at 56.5kg.
As R. Fradd was not attending today’s meeting, J. Byrne was substituted as the rider of Cassavance in Race 4 and S. Sheargold as the rider of Keen Desire in Race 8. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account R. Fradd’s honesty, his record in this regard and was fined the sum of $100.
Race 1: Summer Bright Maiden Plate- 1200 metres
MAGNUS RULES – Slow to begin and jumped inwards.
MISS RICH – Hung out from the 600m.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.  As a warning had been placed on the horse at its previous start, connections were advised that the horse must now barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
Race 2: Peter Boodles Quality Meats/ Ken Russell Memorial Class 3 Handicap - 1400 metres  
STELLAR KNIGHT – A little slow to begin.
CHIEF ADVICATE – Observed with multiple minor lacerations to the near fore, near hind   and off foreleg.
Race 3: Central Park Motel Class 6 Plate - 1600 metres
HARADIFY – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.
BENTLES – Apprentice A. Fancourt was fined the sum of $300 for using her whip 14 times prior to the 100 metres, and with 3 consecutively.  Stewards took into account the totality of whip use and distance of the race. Lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 4: Capricornia Yearling Sales QTIS 2YO Handicap - 1050 metres
LADY MIRABELLA – Slow to begin.
RAPT IN BLACK – Began awkwardly.
MISS MIAO – Jockey G. Colless reported that he restrained near the 900m in an attempt to take cover, and that from this point he had to pressure his horse to maintain its position.

Race 5:  Col Donovan Memorial BM 60 Handicap - 1600 metres   
GLACIER EXPRESS – Slow to begin.
COLD BLOODED – Began awkwardly and made contact with SUNRISE GLORY.  Eased when ROMANOV shifted in near the 1200m.
SUNRISE GLORY – Bumped at the start.
COME BY OFTEN – Raced 3 wide without cover.
LEDOYEN – Apprentice T. Brooker was fined $200 for using her whip 8 times prior to the 100 metres.  Stewards considered Apprentice Brooker’s use of the whip before the 100 metres, the totality of the use and the distance of the race.
EXTRA COVER – Jockey A. Butler was made aware of his use of the whip which was 8 times prior to the 100m, however considered the totality of his use.
Race 6: Racing Queensland BM 70 Handicap - 1200 metres   
HELLAROO – Trainer A. Ross was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time.  Began awkwardly and lost some ground.  The trainer’s representative was questioned in regards to the performance of the horse. He stated the horse returned to the enclosure with its tongue over the bit and may have choked down. He also stated the horse may have come to the end of its preparation and that it was his intention to send it for a spell.  A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
CLOSE TO BEACHES – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages.
CONCA DEL SOGNO – Apprentice Z. White was made aware of her us of the whip, which was 9 times prior to the 100 metres. Stewards considered the totality of her whip use.
Race 7: XXXX Gold Rockhampton Newmarket Open Handicap- 1300 metres  
DRUMBEAT’S CHOICE – Hampered when LAND OFFICE jumped inwards. Apprentice A. Sewell was fined $200 for using his whip 10 times prior to the 100m. Stewards considered his record and the totality of the use.
STELLA OMBRA – Began awkwardly and raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
CLEANSING ALE – Slow to begin.
BROTHERLY SECRET – Raced wide with cover.
DESERT GENERAL – Raced wide with cover.
CASINO THOUGHTS – Raced wide without cover throughout.
KUZNETSOVA – Jockey J. Oliver was questioned with regard to the horse racing back in the field. He stated his mount felt awkward in the early stages and may have felt the firm track surface, was pressured to maintain contact with the field, however responded to his riding near the 400m when positioned to the outside of the field and found the line well.
Race 8:  DC Motors Class 1 Handicap- 1200 metres  
SPUD O’REILLY – Slow to begin.  Brushed over the concluding stages.  Was observed to have bled from both nostrils for the second time and would now occur a lifetime bar.
KEEN DESIRE – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover.  On return to the enclosure was found to have superficial lacerations to both hind bumpers.
FIVE STUD POKER – Slow to begin. Overraced in the middle stages.
STELLA GRIS – Overraced in the middle stages.
TUXEDO BOY – Near 500 metrs, eased when racing to the inside of AMULETO, which rolled in.  Raced in restricted room momentarily near the 200m when AL HAMEES shifted out.
FAST TRACK – Brushed over the concluding stages. Raced wide without cover.
WORTH THE TIME – Raced 3 wide without cover. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer D. Shultz stated that the horse had been hampered to varying degrees in previous starts. He was of the opinion the wide barrier was advantageous to stay outside of other horses. Stewards noted his explanation.
