ATHERTON TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 12th JANUARY 2019

GENERAL:
Stewards today inquired into a complaint received from the Atherton Turf Club in relation to a number of horses being worked on the course proper on Saturday 29 December 2018 when the course proper was closed due to inclement weather.

Trainer Mr. Alan Pateman pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(p) in that he failed to comply with a direction from the Atherton Turf Club and removed barricades from the course proper also failing to adhere to the track closed sign and instructed track-work riders to gallop on the course proper. Mr. Pateman was fined the sum of $300 and advised of his review rights.

Trainer Mr. Bruce Hunter pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(p) in that he failed to comply with a direction from the Atherton Turf Club also failing to adhere to the track closed sign and instructed his track-work rider to gallop on the course proper. Mr. Hunter was fined the sum of $200 and was advised of his review rights.

Track-work rider Ms. Cassie Marsh pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(p) in that she failed to comply with a direction from the Atherton Turf Club and witnessed the removal of barricades from the course proper also failing to adhere to the track closed sign and worked horses on the course proper. Ms. Marsh was fined the sum of $300 and advised of her review rights.

Jockey Kerry Rockett pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(p) in that he failed to comply with a direction from the Atherton Turf Club and failed to adhere to the track closed sign and worked horses on the course proper. Mr. Rockett was fined the sum of $200 and advised of his review rights.

Following a stable inspection conducted at the Atherton Turf Club on Sunday 6th January 2018 Stewards questioned Trainer Ms. Janel Ryan into the reason an unlicensed person was performing stable duties on the day. After hearing submissions Ms. Ryan pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of LR43 and was fined the sum of $200 and was advised that any person performing stale duties must be the holder of the appropriate licence.

The gelding SHUDAKEPTIM which competed in Race 1 today was incorrectly named in the Official Programme under its former name LENTICULAR. On-course patrons were notified of this error via public address.

Supplementary Report:

Stewards were advised that due to transportation difficulties the replacement set of barriers on order were unable to be delivered to Atherton Turf Club prior to today’s meeting. Following the running of the race meeting and further faults with the barrier gates today, the Atherton Turf Club was advised that the replacement set of barriers must be in place prior to its next race meeting proceeding.

Race 1: BOTTLEMART MALANDA MAIDEN PLATE 1200m

VAN GRAAS – Slowly into stride after beginning awkwardly.

FLASH FOX – Raced greenly for a short distance passing the 800m.

MAROON CREEK – Restrained when racing in restricted room near the 800m.

TEXAS GAL – Hung in for the majority.

TURF GLORY – Jockey M Kai advised that in his opinion the gelding was not comfortable in today’s soft track conditions.

Race 2: 1911 RESTAURANT BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200m

POWER OF DIVAS – Shifted out abruptly after beginning awkwardly hampering runners to its outside.

AMULETO – Was hampered soon after jumping by another runner which shifted out abruptly.

FLYING ONE MORE – Was hampered soon after jumping by another runner which shifted out abruptly. Raced wide for the majority.

FIVE STAR - Was hampered soon after jumping by another runner which shifted out abruptly. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

REACTANT - Restrained when racing in restricted room near the 900m. Lost near hind plate in running.

Race 3: TOM ENGLISH MEMORIAL CLASS B HANDICAP 1100m

SUPAMETEOR – As Jockey S Pawsey was to be overweight as the rider of SUPAMETEOR he was replaced by Jockey P Cullen. Jockey Pawsey was subsequently fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR120(b). Slowly away. Was severely tightened between runners soon after jumping losing ground as a result. Restrained off heels near the 400m.

ROTHESAY MAGIC – Slowly away. Shifted in abruptly soon after jumping and hampered another runner, losing ground as a result.

YANKEE ROLLER – Shifted out soon after jumping and hampered another runner. Raced wide for the majority.

GRAZIE MILLE BELLA – Restrained off heels near the 900m.

ELITE JET – Raced wide for the majority. Attempted to savage another runner near the 100m causing Jockey W D’Avila to become unbalanced. Trainer Ms. L Ashford was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

Race 4: SPAR MALANDA CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1000m

O returning to scale Jockey Ms. B Thomson made application for KAP IT OFF to be declared a non-runner due to the front gates on the mare’s starting barrier being slow to open. The available head-on patrol footage of the start substantiated Jockey Thomson’s advice and KAP IT OFF was declared a non-runner under the provisions of AR134A. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on KAP IT OFF be refunded in full and further that all successful wagers placed on the event be subject to deductions of 8 cents in the dollar win and 8 cents in the dollar place on the face value of the betting ticket.

KIRABO – Shifted in soon after the start hampering another runner.

MUST BE OBEYED – Slowly into stride after being hampered soon after the start by another runner which shifted in.

ROSE OF KALLONI – Slowly into stride.

I’M NOT SURE - Slowly into stride.

Race 5: MALANDA HOTEL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1400m

OUR SINGLE DOUBT – Stood flat-footed as the barriers opened and refused to jump with the field losing considerable ground. Raced wide for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr. G Horner was advised the gelding would be required to obtain one (1) further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

BACKTOSPEC – Knuckled over on jumping.

UNCHARTERED – Slowly away.

PRESIDENTIAL JOY – Slowly away. Restrained on several occasions in the middle stages when the pace slackened.

WATCH ME DAZZLE EM – After jumping from a wide barrier was restrained in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the inside running rail.

TRY BEFORE DUBAI - Restrained near the 800m when the pace slackened. Raced wide in the middle stages.

NEAR THE CITY - Raced wide in the middle stages.

FLYING FERO – Raced wide for the majority.
