OFFICIALS
`
Chairman of Stewards – C. Albrecht
Stewards – J. Hackett, B. Connell, J. Collins
Clerk of Scales – C. Fedrick
Judge – I. Schultz, B. Wilson
Veterinarian – Dr C. Wain
Swab Attendants – J. Crompton
Starter – K. Watson
Stewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski

Race 1: BLUE TREE PROJECT PROVINCIAL STAYERS BENCHMARK 70 H'CAP – 2450M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, apprentice A. Thompson, the rider of BROCSON, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against HIGH WIND being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 150m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos it was established that although BROCSON may have been dictated slightly by HIGH WIND near the 150m, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that BROCSON had obtained full purchase on a run to the inside of HIGH WIND and after taking into account the half-length margin separating both runners at the finish dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

BROCSON – Slow into stride. Overraced in the early and middle stages.

LATINO LOVER – Elected to shift three wide at the 800m when trailing a runner which was being restrained whilst overracing.

TATALINA – When questioned, S. Lacy explained that after taking up a position towards the rear of the field as instructed, the filly failed to handle today’s tight turning track and when placed under pressure from the 600m was inclined to lay in for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

SLAUGHTER BAY – Overraced in the early stages and had to be checked from heels near the 600m.

Race 2: LANDSBOROUGH HOTEL CLASS 3 PLATE – 1650M

THERE’S NEMO – After being initially slow to begin, was then hampered shortly after.

COMMISSIONER – Checked shortly after the start when tightened for room. After passing the winning post on the first occasion was tightened for room by SUPERVISOR, which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Further inquiry relating to this incident has been adjourned as apprentice A. Thompson, the rider of SUPERVISOR, was dislodged from his mount in Race 3 and transported to hospital.

TYCOON LAYLA – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages whereby after assuming the lead the mare was allowed to run along in front in rather quick time before  being under pressure from inside the 800m and compounding to finish last, apprentice N. Fazackerley explained that trainer K. Loy’s instructions were to lead and rather than risk having the horse overrace, allow it to run along in in the lead. Trainer K. Loy confirmed the instructions, adding that the horse performs best when able to lead on its own terms and had been successful in the past when ridden in this manner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.

Race 3: GETTING DIRTY EXCAVATIONS QTIS 3YO CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1200M

ENTERPRISE GRAND, which became fractious in its raceday stall and sustained a head injury, was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1:45 pm.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding UNO AMOR and CONQUERMORE both falling near the 600m. After taking evidence from the riders in the vicinity, stewards adjourned the inquiry to allow apprentice A. Thompson to be present as he had been transported to hospital for precautionary reasons.

MISHANI RULER – Raced three wide in the early stages.

MIDNIGHT MATINEE – Buffeted between runners at the start and lost ground. Raced three wide without cover in the early stages.

KITTY DAMOUR – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MIDNIGHT MATINEE.

MISS SIZZ – Had to be severely checked and lost ground near the 600m when avoiding fallen horses.

Apprentice Adin Thompson was transported to hospital for treatment and jockey L. Tilley was stood down from his remaining engagements. Subsequently, on the advice of the paramedics, jockey Tilley was also transported to hospital. Both riders will be required to produce medical clearances and undergo cognitive tests before riding again. Riding replacements in Races 4, 5 and 6 were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 4: RON BERRY CONCRETING SPECIALIST MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

Trainer W. Bannerot was fined $100 for failing to declare N. Fazackerley as the rider of HARRY’S STAR by the prescribed time.

Trainer M. Brosnan fined $100 for failing to declare S. Doyle as the rider of SOCIALEYES by the prescribed time.

HARRY’S STAR – Shifted in abruptly at the start.

MAGIC SCENT – Leaving the 200m bumped by VON ROSEN, which shifted out under pressure.

POP ‘N’ ZAC – Blundered near the 500m after shifting in and making contact with the running rail. A short distance later blundered again of its own accord.

BOOMI’S BUDDY – Had to be checked shortly after the start when tightened for room. Commenced to hang out from the 600m. Connections will be advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

SHE WON’T LISTEN – Slow to begin.

SPEZIELLE – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.

PADDLES – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.

TEYA – Had to be steadied near the 1000m to avoid the heels of POP ‘N’ ZAC, which was taken in by SOCIALEYES.

UNIMAGINEABLE – Improved on to the heels of SOCIALEYES near the 800m, had to be steadied and shifted wider on the track.

Race 5: BUCK’S BAKERY LANDSBOROUGH CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1100M

Training partnership Anderson Heathcote Racing was fined $100 for failing to declare S. Tomlinson as the rider of SIXES by the prescribed time.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight the Judge amended the placings originally shown on the semaphore board from 2, 6, 10, 3, 4 to 2, 6, 3, 10, 4.

BEWARE – Began awkwardly.

ODDFELLOW – Shifted in under pressure in the home straight.

FEARLESS QUEEN – Bumped SIXES at the start.

LORD OF THE DREAMZ – Near the 150m was eased from the heels of RAVEN’S WING which shifted in under pressure. Ms B. Ainsworth, the rider of RAVEN’S WING, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

MAHRATTA – Stood flat-footed and lost ground at the start.

SIXES – Bumped at the start. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice S. Tomlinson stated that his instructions were to take up a forward position and after attempting to comply with these instructions he was obliged to race wide for the entire event. He added that the filly was under pressure from the 600m and failed to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which weakened from the 400m, revealed a poor post-race recovery. Co-trainer C. Anderson could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and undertook to report to stewards anything that may come to light in ensuing days which may have had an effect on the performance.

FATZ – Had to be steadied near the 500m after improving on to the heels of SIXES.

REGNANT – Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied near the 600m when awkwardly placed at the heels of BEWARE.

MINI MOUNTAIN – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 6: RADIO TAB BENCHMARK 55 H'CAP – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed considerably when the starter advised that there was an error in his official paperwork which resulted in the field having to be reloaded.

BON COURAGE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

SUGAR BUZZ – Had to be steadied near the 1100m when placed in restricted room between INSTANTANEOUS and OVERGROWN, which was taken in by DEVILLAIN. Apprentice M. Nakao, the rider of DEVILLAIN, was advised to exercise more care.

LANDALE – Raced wide in the early stages before assuming the position in the lead near the 900m.

SAME OLD – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn.

LUCKY MACHU – Stood flat-footed at the start and then failed to muster any early speed despite the efforts of its rider and trailed the field throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that prior to racing again the gelding must trial satisfactorily and a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, must be produced.

VOANABA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

OVERGROWN – Raced wide throughout.
