Stewards questioned apprentice H. English and trainer J. Manzelmann in relation to the riding tactics employed on the mare in particular in the early stages of the race.
Apprentice English advised Stewards that she has ridden the mare previously and stated that in her opinion the mare prefers to race on the pace however, the horse began awkwardly and raced ungenerously approaching the 1200m and as such, she elected to allow the mare to improve forward where she obtained a position outside the leader. Ms English stated she had minimal riding instructions which was confirmed by trainer J. Manzelmann.

Mr Manzelmann stated that his opinion other options may have been available under the circumstances instead of racing four wide in a five horse race however after viewing the race film  in his opinion she had no choice considering the circumstances. Mr Manzelmann further stated that once Apprentice English obtained a position outside the leader she did not continue to push forward and positioned the horse just off the leader. Stewards noted the explanations.
SPIRITED CHARACTER – Rider C. Jokic replaced P. Cullen due to P. Cullen being injured. Rider  C. Jokic, advised her saddle had shifted and her mount raced ungenerously shifting out forcing another runner wider.
