GENERAL

Following a track inspection conducted by Stewards and Club Officials on the 08/05/2021 a section of the racing surface from the 1200m-1100m was, despite remedial efforts following recent rain, deemed unsuitable for racing. As such Stewards, acting under the provisions of AR21(f)(ii), reduced the distance of Race 3 from 1400m to 1200m. Industry participants directly affected were notified, with the opportunity to scratch without penalty, prior to the commencement of the meeting and patrons via way of on course announcement prior to the commencement of the meeting.

Race 1: TJC MOTHER’S DAY QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000m

AHEAD OF HE REST- Was declared a late scratching at 11:40am when found to be lame in the near-fore. Trainer B Williams was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would eb required prior to the mare again being permitted to start in a race.

GET A MOVING TARGET- Trainer B Williams was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR206 for failing to initiate a gear change by the prescribed time. Slow into stride.

ALL BAR SURAH- Began awkwardly.

IN MEMORY OF A MATE- After beginning on terms with the field failed to muster the early speed required and subsequently assumed a trailing position. Finished off fairly.

THE WAITERS EYE- After beginning on terms with the field failed to muster the early speed required and subsequently assumed a trailing position. Finished off fairly.

ALPHA BLUE- Raced wide for throughout.

PLENTY OF TICKER- Raced wide throughout.

Stewards inquired into the reason PLENTY OF TICKER (M Haley) was obliged to restrain passing the 850m. After taking evidence from the riders involved and viewing the patrol footage it was ascertained that passing the 850m JAY KAY CEE (N Nelson) commenced to shift in across the running of PLENTY OF TICKER which was obliged to restrain and shift in tightening ALPHA BLUE (B Thomson) and GET A MOVING JET (App A Jones). Jockey Nelson subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that she did exercise insufficient effort in straightening her mount and did permit her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PLENTY OF TICKER causing that runner to be restrained and shift in tightening ALPHA BLUE and GET A MOVING JET. Jockey Nelson’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence 14th May 2021 up to and including 21st May 2021. In determining penalty Stewards gave consideration to the degree of interference which was deemed to be in the low range, her record in relation to the rule and her guilty plea. Jockey Nelson was advised of her right to an internal review.

Following the running of this event some riders expressed concerns regarding a section of the racing surface at the 1400m turn. A delegation of Riders and Stewards inspected this section of track and it was identified to be heavy however, as no races were to be run over this section of track, was deemed safe to continue.
