ABITOFACARD – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground, and then raced greenly throughout.

PHONY PONY – Began awkwardly.

Race 2: ICON STEEL RACE TO ROMA QUALIFIER BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1788M

POTEMKIN – Commenced to weaken approaching the 100m and was placed in restricted room to the inside of MURPHY’S HUSTLER which was taken in by ADDICTED which shifted in and away from LI’L RODGE which shifted in.

LI’L RODGE – Buffeted between runners on jumping away.

ADDICTED – After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey E. Ljung permitted her mount to stride forward to briefly obtain the leading position approaching the 1000m.

NAMIB – Tightened for room and checked to avoid the heels of LI’L RODGE which shifted in after passing the winning post on the first occasion. J. Oliver, the rider of LI’L RODGE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in after passing the winning post on the first occasion which resulted in NAMIB being tightened for room and checked. Jockey Oliver’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 20 July 2019 and expire at midnight on Sunday 28 July 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Oliver’s guilty plea and his prior good record in relation to this rule.

MURPHY’S HUSTLER – Made the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion awkwardly and shifted out.

Race 3: G.J. GARDNER DALBY & CHINCHILLA QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when Apprentice A. Thompson, the rider of third placegetter, FRENCH OCEAN, returned to scale 0.5kg under his allotted weight. In considering the provisions of AR. 209(2)(a), which provides that the Clerk of the Scales may allow the rider of a horse to return to scale 0.5kg lighter than the horse’s allotted weight, Stewards were satisfied that Apprentice Thompson had not exceeded the 0.5kg allowance. Stewards therefore deemed that FRENCH OCEAN should not be disqualified, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers. At a subsequent inquiry, Apprentice A. Thompson was unable to explain the weight differential as all the gear which he had weighed out with had been accounted for upon his return to scale. Nevertheless, Stewards reminded Apprentice Thompson of his obligations in relation to this rule, but took the matter no further.
