ADVANCE WARNING – Restrained at the start from a wide barrier to gain a position closer to the fence.

GOGOLDCOAST – Held up in the early part of the home straight and then had to alter course to the outside in order to improve.

Race 2: LUNAR NEW YEAR RACEDAY MAIDEN H’CAP – 1640M

BORAZON – When questioned, R. Fradd reported that he was held up rounding the home turn when awkwardly placed at the heels of MYSTIC BROOK and he was prevented from moving out when ALMONDELLA was racing to his outside. He added that near the 250m he was unable to shift out to obtain clear running when RABBIOSA raced tight to his outside. He further added that he then attempted to obtain a run to the inside of MYSTIC BROOK but was prevented from doing that when MYSTIC BROOK shifted in slightly, and that inside the 100m he attempted a run between LOTUS LEAF and MYSTIC BROOK but was disappointed for that run when MYSTIC BROOK shifted out slightly, which resulted in him not being able to fully test his mount in the home straight.

LOTUS LEAF – Had to be steadied from the heels of NIGHT WHISPER soon after the start when that runner shifted out.

TOP GLAMOUR – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

ALMONDELLA – Had to be eased from the heels of RABBIOSA when weakening near the 300m.

NIGHT WHISPER – Raced three wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which compounded in the home straight, revealed cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that, prior to racing again, the horse must trial satisfactorily and a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, must be provided.

Race 3: BRC MEMBERSHIPS QTIS 3YO C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

BLACK MOUNTAIN – Had to be restrained from the heels of MONASHEE RIDGE when racing greenly and overracing near the 900m and then continued to overrace for some distance.

BLACK STRATA – Shifted out near the 500m and made heavy contact with the hind quarter of ROTHMAN.

HAFU – Had to be eased when momentarily tightened for room near the 900m. Overraced in the middle stages and on a number of occasions had to be restrained from the heels of ZEPHETTO.

MONASHEE RIDGE – Shifted in passing the 200m and when being corrected by its rider threw its head in the air and proved difficult to ride.

NOBLE ARTIST – Slow to begin. Momentarily inconvenienced when tightened for room near the 200m between HAFU and MONASHEE RIDGE, which shifted in.

ROTHMAN – Contacted on the hind quarter near the 500m and became unbalanced. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 4: TAB C,G&E BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1200M

UNO BEST – Commenced to overrace when apprentice Bayliss tried to restrain the horse near the 800m and as a result it led by a significant distance in the middle stages.

WINDS OF CHANGE – Slow to begin. Apprentice J. Grob was cautioned regarding his whip action inside the final 100m in that his whip arm was above shoulder height.

MADLUCE MISSILE – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight and approaching the 200m became awkward at the heels of WINDS OF CHANGE.

Race 5: GIRLS DAY OUT RACEDAY QTIS 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

LUCKY TIME – Hampered soon after the start.

OSAYCAN – Raced three wide without cover.

RED STINA – Slow to begin and was hampered soon afterwards by HOLLY’S SONG, which jumped awkwardly and shifted out.

Race 6: ASCOT GREEN F&M BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1200M

NOW YOU SEE – Raced wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to the lead near the 800m.

NOT SURPRISING – Slow to begin. Overraced badly in the early and middle stages, proving difficult to ride, and had to be checked from the heels of ELLA DIVINE approaching the 600m.

MYSTIC EYES – T. Harrison was cautioned for failing to ride her mount right out to the end of the race. Stewards were not of the view that jockey Harrison’s actions had a material effect on the placing of the horse.

Race 7: WEDDINGS AT BRC CLASS 3 PLATE – 1640M

MEYIWA HITAM MAWAR, which dislodged M. McGillivray whilst proceeding to the barriers and galloped a circuit of the course, was declared a late scratching at 4:43 pm. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on MEYIWA HITAM MAWAR be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 4:43 pm:

4 cents in the dollar for the win #6
4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #9

ODDFELLOW – Had to be checked near the 400m, clipped heels and blundered. Apprentice B. Nothdurft, the rider of KATHMANDU, pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift out around the heels of EPIC RANT when not fully clear of ODDFELLOW, resulting in interference to that runner. Apprentice Nothdurft’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 12 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 19 January  and expire at midnight on Thursday 31 January 2019.

Race 8: SKY THOROUGHBRED CENTRAL CLASS 2 PLATE – 1350M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage R. Fradd, the rider of ONE FOR BETTY, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against YAMAZAKI (D. Smith) being declared the winner, alleging interference inside the final 50m. After taking evidence from both riders and viewing the videos it was established that YAMAZAKI did shift out abruptly near the 50m, resulting in ONE  FOR BETTY having to shift out to avoid the heels of YAMAZAKI, making contact with the hind quarters of PORTUGUESE TART. Stewards could not be satisfied that this occurrence, bearing in mind the proximity of the incident to the winning post and the long neck margin separating both runners at the finish, had a material effect on the placings and therefore dismissed the objection and correct weight was declared on 11, 10, 9 and 6.

BERNIE’S TIGER – Pulled hard in the early stages.

GET STUCK IN – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

HUSSON’S PRIDE – Slow to begin.

PORTUGUESE TART – Bumped heavily by ONE FOR BETTY on the hind quarters near the 50m and became unbalanced.

ONE FOR BETTY – Held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight until past the 200m. Shifted out near the 50m and bumped PORTUGUESE TART.
