Race 1: JANETTE “JENNY” MARGARET REED MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 72 H'CAP – 2112M
 
DASHING SPECIAL – Laid out under pressure approaching the 200m.
 
TRAVISTEE – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
BRANDO – Raced three wide without cover in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward passing the 1600m to obtain the lead near the 1200m. Laid out under pressure over the final 200m.
 
NORDIC SHOW – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding his vigour over the final 400, D. Smith stated that it was the mare’s first time over this distance and that it only has a short sprint and circumstances today forced him to pressure his mount passing the 300m, which was earlier than he would have liked. He added that in his opinion the mare’s run had come to an end prior to the finishing line and he felt she was given every opportunity to perform at her best. He advised connections that the horse may be better suited to a drop back in distance and if possible ridden more forward with cover to utilise the short sprint, which may be more advantageous to its racing pattern.
 
Race 2: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS 3YO FILLIES H'CAP – 1200M
 
KISUKANO – Proved very difficult to load, delaying the start. Raced three wide without cover in the early stages before pressing forward to obtain the lead passing the 800m. Trainer M. Nolan was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for the filly prior to it racing again.
 
MISHANI MISS – Laid in when placed under pressure approaching the 300m.
 
SIZZLEPEL – Commenced to race keenly when being restrained passing the 1000m and then passing the 800m had to be steadied away from the heels of KISUKANO, which steadied the pace, and then raced keenly from that point and proved difficult to restrain.
 
RED WABBAT – Had to be steadied away from the heels of SIZZLEPEL passing the 700m and in doing so shifted out, bumping with GEORGIE’S PRIDE.
 
GEORGIE’S PRIDE – Bumped passing the 700m.
 
TYCOON EVIE – Forced wider on the track passing the 800m by SIZZLEPEL, which shifted away from the heels of KISUKANO. Laid out under riding over the final 200m, obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten.
 
Race 3: WELCOME BACK TO YOUR TRACK C,G&E NO METRO WINS H'CAP – 1400M
 
ABSOLUT ARTIE – A. Butler was reprimanded for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, being one more than permissible under the rule.
 
ALDERMAN – Forced wider on the track approaching the 800m by TITANIUM, which shifted out away from the heels of MR ATTITUDE.
 
FEW TOO MANY – After being caught wide shortly after the start was restrained in an attempt to find a position closer to the rail, however the gelding resented this and threw its head in the air on a number of occasions, and as a result of being unable to obtain cover, raced three wide without cover. Improved on to heels approaching the 200m and had to be eased before securing clear running passing the 150m.

ROTHABYE – Began awkwardly. Momentarily inconvenienced shortly after passing the 200m.
 
JARHEAD – Apprentice A. Thompson dropped his whip approaching the 150m.
 
POINT THE WAGON – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 4: QUINCY F&M NO METRO WINS H'CAP – 1400M
 
FLYING MACHINE – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. The horse raced in the lead.
 
KEDAH – Hung out after passing the 600m. Rider A. Mallyon reported that his mount hung out badly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
ZIGALLENE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn. Improved on to the heels of FLYING MACHINE passing the 200m and had to be shifted wider on the course and then approaching the 100m raced in restricted room for a short distance.
 
ALL SHIRAZ – Held up from the 300m until passing the 200m.
 
IN YOUR ELEMENT – Apprentice M. Wishart was reprimanded for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, being one more than permissible under the rule.
 
KASITA – Began awkwardly. Laid in for a short distance passing the 300m when the rider was endeavouring to shift out to improve.
 
PETITE ELLE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages when positioned outside the leader.
 
Race 5: THE VILLAGE KITCHEN ASCOT CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1800M
 
MUSHAIREB – R. Wiggins pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(5) of excessive use of the whip, in that he used it on 19 occasions, and his licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 days, to commence at midnight on Monday 24 August and expire at midnight on Monday 31 August 2020.
 
MANGIONE – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure approaching the 250m.
 
GLEN ORD – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SUGAR BUZZ – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and had to be steadied away from the heels of MOMENTUM TO WIN near the 1600m and again passing the 1200m.
 
DANTE ROSSETTI – M. Hellyer reported that his mount was uncomfortable in its action. Trainer P. Campbell advised stewards that she would inform them should anything come to light which may have had an effect on the gelding’s performance today.
 
Race 6: CASCADE QTIS 3YO C&G H'CAP – 1200M
 
RETURN WITH HONOUR – Bumped and forced wider on the course passing the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
REAL FINE WINE – Shifted out under pressure passing the 200m.
 
CLAIRVUE STAR – Had to be checked away from the heels of MASTER RED passing the 800m and in doing so shifted out, bumping with RETURN WITH HONOUR, which was forced wider on the course. Had to be severely checked and lost considerable ground when crowded for room passing the 200m whilst improving to the inside of RETURN WITH HONOUR and to the outside of REAL FINE WINE, which shifted out before being corrected by its rider.
 
BOOM SPENDER – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover in the early stages before pressing forward to obtain the position outside the lead near the 700m.
 
ACROBATIC – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
SUPER EFFORT – Began awkwardly.
 
SIMPLY FLY – Resented being restrained by its rider passing the 1000m when attempting to obtain cover and threw its head. Bumped heavily passing the 500m. Improved on to the heels of the tiring MISHANI FRAUDSTER approaching the 100m and then went to the line without being tested.
 
MASTER RED – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 800m, when overracing and laying out, became awkwardly placed at the heels of SIMPLY FLY, which shifted in slightly, and had to be checked. Checked passing the 200m when crowded for room to the inside of RETURN WITH HONOUR and to the outside of REAL FINE WINE, which shifted out before being corrected by its rider. Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
Race 7: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY OPEN H'CAP – 1200M
 
IMPASSE – Began awkwardly, unbalancing its rider.
 
CATESBY – Raced keenly in the middle stages and passing the 700m had to be steadied away from the heels of HARD STRIDE.
 
HARD STRIDE – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, apprentice A. Thompson stated that he pressed forward as per instructions, adding that he initially intended to sit outside the leader, but for a short distance from his wide barrier pressured his mount in an attempt to go forward and maybe obtain the lead but was not able to do so, and then restrained to a position outside the leader, albeit racing keenly in that position. He added that the horse raced in its usual racing pattern. Trainer J. Judge confirmed the instructions and advised that he was satisfied with apprentice Thompson’s ride, however did note that the tempo of the race was quicker than he expected and he was of the view that he would have preferred the horse not running the early sectionals that it did, which may have given it a better chance to finish the race off. Mr Judge advised that he would speak to the owner and in future race starts may vary the tactics.
 
Race 8: KIRIN OPEN H'CAP – 1600M
 
CARZOFF – Held up approaching the home turn and disappointed for a run to the outside of SKATE TO PARIS and to the inside of VICTORY EIGHT.
 
VICTORY EIGHT – Bumped on a number of occasions approaching the home turn by CARZOFF which was attempting to shift out to improve.
 
RIGHT OR WRONG – Bumped by HAPPY GO PLUCKY passing the 350m.
 
SKATE TO PARIS – Approaching the 1200m had to be steadied away from the heels of HAPPY GO LUCKY, which shifted in.
 
OBSERVATIONAL – Began awkwardly. S. Thornton was fined $300 for using the whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m, being three more than permissible under the rule.
 
AQUA VITE – As R. Wiggins was to be overweight, J. Byrne was substituted as rider. R. Wiggins was fined $300.
 
PRINCE OF TIE – Raced keenly in the early stages whilst leading. Apprentice J. Murphy was reprimanded for using the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, being two more than permissible under the rule.
 
HAPPY GO PLUCKY – Held up from the 400m until passing the 300m. Again raced in restricted room passing the 150m.
 
ATOUCHMORE – Began awkwardly and then blundered shortly after jumping.
 
Race 9: BRC MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1000M
 
TAKES TIME – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
REDEX – As the horse had not raced for 12 months, it underwent a veterinary examination which cleared the gelding to start. Caught wide in the early stages before pressing forward to obtain the lead passing the 600m.
