GENERAL

Trainer Mr. B. Andrew was fined $100 for the late declaration of Apprentice S. Sweeney as the rider of MY BOY BLUE in Race 1, and Apprentice B. Nothdurft as the rider of RUELLA in Race 2. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Mr. Andrew’s prior good record in relation to this rule.

Race 1: THE FENCE BLOKE MAIDEN PLATE – 860M

MAGIC SCENT – Raced wide with cover throughout.

RETURN TO ROYALTY – Made the home turn awkwardly and, as a result, was steadied from heels.

REAL SMILES – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.

SPEEDY – After working to the barriers strongly, the mare was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Raced greenly throughout.

JETE – Steadied to avoid heels near the 250m.

YOUR MY BOY BLUE – Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 2: TAB QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M

RUELLA – Forced wider on the track by JAZZ QUEEN near the 300m and, as a result, lost its rightful running.

EVA DESTRUCTION – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground when the runners to either side shifted ground.

MISS HOW LONG – Jumped with its head in the air and lost ground. Laid out rounding the home turn.

OUR CLARISSA – Bumped and raced in restricted room for some distance shortly after the start. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

SHE’S OUR RIPPA – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner. Jockey A. Fancourt reported that the filly travelled comfortably in a forward position throughout the race, despite being challenged by another runner to its outside. She added that, in her opinion, bearing in mind the manner in which the filly pulled up after the race, it would derive a significant fitness benefit from the run today. Trainer T. Gollan expressed some disappointment in the performance of the filly which he advised had worked well in preparation for today’s race. He added that in light of today’s performance he will now review the horse’s current preparation, which may include sending it for a spell. Stewards noted the explanations.

HIDDEN SECRET – Raced in restricted room for a short distance on jumping away. Forced wider on the track by JAZZ QUEEN near the 300m and, as a result, lost its rightful running.

CRAIGLEA RAFFERTY – Bumped heavily on jumping away. Steadied from heels near the 200m.

REG ‘N’ KATH – Raced wide without cover throughout. Brushed the running rail of its own accord near the 150m and became unbalanced.

AFTER THE STORM – Overraced in the early and middle stages and proved difficult to restrain.

DJEBEL READY – Bumped and raced in restricted room for some distance shortly after the start.

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 300m in which RUELLA (App. B. Nothdurft) and HIDDEN SECRET (M. Hellyer) were both forced wider on the track and lost their rightful running when JAZZ QUEEN (A. Allen) shifted out when not completely clear. After taking evidence from all parties, Anthony Allen, the rider of JAZZ QUEEN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 300m he directed his mount to shift out to secure clear running when not completely clear of RUELLA (App. B. Nothdurft) and HIDDEN SECRET (M. Hellyer) resulting in both of those runners being forced wider on the track and losing their rightful running. Jockey Allen’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 8 May 2019 and expire at midnight on Thursday 16 May 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Allen’s prior good record in relation to this rule.

Race 3: VANDERFIELD (JOHN DEERE) GATTON MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

THE DOCTOR – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages and, as a result, had to be straightened by its rider.

MAADAAK – Raced wide without cover throughout.

MARK OF THE CLASS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, Trainer T. Hurley advised that, in his opinion, the gelding’s form was better than it appeared on paper, having only been beaten approximately 5 lengths at its most recent starts. He added that the gelding was also better suited by being able to race in a more forward position when stepping up in distance today, and further added that, in his opinion, this race was somewhat weaker than the horse’s previous starts. Stewards noted the explanation.

SPICE TRADER – Forced wider on the track over the concluding stages when brushed by another runner. Lost the near fore plate in running.

WHY WOULDN’T YOU – Slow to begin.

SMOKIN’ HUSSAY – Raced wide with cover throughout.

STRAWBERRY BLONDE – Raced in restricted room and was eased near the 600m when WHY WOULDN’T YOU (M. Hellyer) shifted out. Jockey Hellyer was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. Jockey L. Tilley reported that he was instructed to obtain cover on the filly from the wide barrier if possible and, in an endeavour to comply with the instructions, he was forced to settle further back in the field than anticipated. He added that near the 650m, where he met with some interference, the filly dropped the bit and was unable to immediately quicken as he had expected. He went on to say that, when able to secure clear running in the home straight, the filly ran on strongly over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation.

THE TRUMP TRAIN – Slow to begin. Raced keenly near the 1100m, and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of STRAWBERRY BLONDE (L. Tilley) which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey Tilley was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

Race 4: BOWE’S ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 860M

PHAST LAD – Improved onto heels over the concluding stages and was eased.

MAGINOT LINE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained an injury to its off-hind leg consistent with it being galloped on.

JACK OF SPADES – Raced wide without cover throughout.

CLOSE ENOUGH – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

PUNDIT – Hung out throughout.

Race 5: 2019 TAB GATTON CUP SATURDAY JUNE 1ST BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1600M

LIMBO STAR – Declared at late scratching at 12.47pm on veterinary advice.

CHAMPAGNE VEGA – Disappointed for a run near the 200m and, as a result, was held up for some distance before shifting to the outside to secure clear running.

SILENT FLYER – Forced wider on the track by another runner passing the 1100m and, as a result, raced wide for the remainder.

I’M FAVULOUS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DAZET – Raced wide throughout.

Race 6: MARQUEE PACKAGES AVAILABLE – SEE LOCKYERVALLEY TURFCLUB.COM.AU CLASS 3 – 1100M

ARCHADE – Began awkwardly and was slow to muster early speed and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated.

ANOTHER SLIPPER – Began awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with another runner. Laid out in the middle stages.

DIAMOND DIVA – Raced in restricted room near the 900m to the inside of HE’S A WITNESS which was inclined to shift in and away from a runner crossing to its outside.

SMOOTH HUSTLER – Raced in restricted room approaching the 900m.

EARL OF FORDYCE – After being slightly slow to begin, the gelding was further hampered when tightened for room and, as a result, lost ground. Proved reluctant to stretch out in the early stages.

SHE’S GOT MAGIC – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages and brushed the running rail near the 50m.

Race 7: AFTER PARTY – ENJOY THE SOUNDS OF THE VELLACOTT TRIO CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1400M

CONSULAR – Steadied to avoid heels shortly after the start.

FINNFERNO – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the horse to be ridden further forward in the field today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

CROOKED ARROW – Raced wide without cover throughout.

THE BIG EATER – Slow to begin.

VENI VIDI VICI – Trainer J. Aitkenhead was fined $100 for the late declaration of C. Eaton as rider. Steadied to avoid the heels of FINNFERNO (App. A. Thompson) which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice Thompson was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.
