GENERAL
 
Correction to Stewards Report GCTC 29/09/18 – Race 1: COOL ATTITUDE which was declared a late scratching at 12.55 pm (on 29/09/18) was found to be lame after becoming cast in its box at the stables of Trainer G Doughty prior to being brought on course and not in the race day tie up stalls as previously reported.
 
Trainer J Gregory was fined the sum of $200 for the late declaration of Jockey N Thomas as the rider of CHASING ACRES in Race 5 and CAPTAIN CARTS in Race 8.
 
Due to the delay when Jockey V Venkaya was dislodged from DEBONAIR DES subsequently transported to hospital, the remaining races were given the following new start times:-
 
Race 6 – 2.55 pm
Race 7 – 3.44 pm
Race 8 – 4.19 pm
Race 9 – 4.54 pm
Race 10 – 5.21 pm
 
 
RACE 1: Book Christmas Festive Feast Now Class 4 Handicap – 1200m
 
JOHNNY WHITESOX – Blundered shortly after the start and then over-raced during the early stages.
 
RACE 2: Derby Day Party By Moet Ice Imperial QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Plate – 900m
 
PERFECT SAGA - Slow to begin and failed to muster speed in the early stages of the event. When asked to comment on the performance, App. Jed Hodge noted the filly was having its first tart today and was still somewhat immature. App. Hodge added that the filly took a step back in the barriers just prior to the start which resulted in it missing the start by a considerable distance and then despite his efforts failed to muster speed in the early and middle stages due to the soft conditions. App. Hodge added that in the home straight he was able to shift the filly out where he felt the going was superior at which point it finished the race off well. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
SO YOU BEAUTY - Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
KAIHI - Began awkwardly.
 
D GREAT OCEAN - Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MIDNIGHT THUNDER. Raced greenly and hung out for the majority of the event.
 
MIDNIGHT THUNDER - Bumped at the start and raced greenly throughout.
 
RIJKER - Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
RACE 3: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Class 1 Handicap – 1800m
 
LUCKY CAPTAIN - Slow to begin. Over-raced during the middle stages.
 
DRAMATIC MOMENTS - Began awkwardly. Over-raced during the early stages. Leaving the 300m was bumped by ETIKAAL and became unbalanced. Lost its off fore plate in running.
 
ETIKAAL - Slow to begin. Over-raced during the early stages. Leaving the 300m shifted out to secure clear running and bumped DRAMATIC MOMENTS.
 
BOUCHARD - Slow to begin. Over-raced during the early stages and as a consequence was obliged to race wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
ITS CHOUX TIME - Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
RACE 4: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Class 1 Handicap – 1800m
 
The start was delayed when KUIPER proved difficult to load and the tongue tie on EIRA had to be reapplied.
 
KUIPER – Slow to begin.
 
TANG DYNASTY - Over-raced during the early and middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
EIRA – Over-raced during the early stages and as a result raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
DARESAY – Leaving the 100m was obliged to alter course to the inside of EIRA to maintain clear running.
 
After the running of Race 4, Jockey S Doyle was examined by the Queensland Ambulance Service and stood down from his remaining riding engagements. Replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
After the running of Race 4, Jockey M McGuren was examined by the Queensland Ambulance Service and cleared to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.
 
RACE 5: Attwood Marshall Lawyers C,G & E Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
Stewards accepted Trainer M Lakeys explanation as to the late declaration of Jockey J Taylor on ELMOS FIRE.
 
Trainers B & D Guy were fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of Jockey M McGuren on ABLE FUN.
 
During the preliminary, DEBONAIR DES took charge of its rider, Jockey V Venkaya who was dislodge. After being attended to by the Queensland Ambulance Service Jockey Venkaya was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital. DEBONAIR DES was examined by the veterinary surgeon and initially cleared to take its place in the field at which point Jockey S Spinks was declared as the replacement rider.
 
There was a further delay to the amended start time after CHASING ACRES was fractious in the enclosure and dislodged Jockey N Thomas. Jockey Thomas was not harmed in this incident. The gelding was then reluctant to leave the enclosure and after arriving behind the barriers underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching at 2.20 pm.
 
After arriving behind the barriers DEBONAIR DES underwent a veterinary examination at the request of Jockey Spinks and was also declared a late scratching at 2.20 pm. Trainer S Leef will be advised that DEBONAIR DES must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to its next race.
 
All monies invested on CHASING ACRES and DEBONAIR DES were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 2:20 pm:-

MINGALAH – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover for the majority of event.
 
MAXIS TAXI - Hampered at the start. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
ELMOS FIRE - Slow to begin. Near the 200m was disappointed for a run to the inside of MINGALAH, steadied and then held up to a point near the 100m.
 
ABLE FUN - After obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1000m, commenced to over-race and failed to settle despite the efforts of its rider.
 
TORRIENTE - Steadied away from the heels of ABLE FUN near the 200m. When questioned as to the performance, Jockey N Day stated that he was instructed to lead if possible, however, after beginning well the gelding was unable to muster sufficient speed despite his efforts and subsequently settled further back than anticipated. Jockey Day added that the gelding failed to respond as anticipated when placed under pressure rounding the home turn and in his opinion was disappointing. Stewards will question Trainer C Munce at a later date.
 
SPICERS PEAK - Near the 200m bumped ELMOS FIRE and a short distance later was eased away from the heels of ABLE FUN.
 
DEPTHS BELOW – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
 
Jockey L Dittman (DEPTHS BELOW) was fined the sum of $300 for returning to scale in excess of ½ kg. overweight.
 
 
RACE 6: Attwood Marshall Lawyers F & M Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the dual engagement of Jockey C Franklin. Jockey M McGuren replaced Jockey C Franklin on SHES WELCOME.
 
COSTA BLANCA - Cast a near hind plate which was unable to be refitted and as such the mare was permitted to race with no hind shoes. Blundered at the start.
 
SHES WELCOME – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 900m improved onto the heels of COSTA BLANCA and continued to over-race for some distance thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DISCIPLINE - Began awkwardly.
 
CYCLONE CHARLI - Hampered at the start. Laid in under pressure throughout the entire home straight.
 
CEOL NA MARA - Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start was hampered by JULIANNES WISH.
 
TERRORFILO - Slow to begin and failed to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider. Near the 150m was inconvenienced by TREZORO which shifted out. Jockey N Thomas (TREZORO) was reprimanded for shifting out when insufficiently clear.
 
LOVE OF DUBAI - Once positioned outside the leader, over-raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 250m checked when tightened for room and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the off hind cannon consistent with being galloped on.
 
GIVEMEAMINUTE - Raced wide without cover throughout. Leaving the 250m was inconvenienced by CEOL NA MARA which shifted in.
 
VERANES - Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 200m was inconvenienced when tightened for room.
 
ONWARD TO VICTORY - Held up during the early stages of the home straight and was obliged to shift in to secure clear running. Leaving the 200m was disappointed for a run to the inside of VERANES which shifted in.
 
JULIANNES WISH - Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight and near the 200m was steadied from heels and held up again to a point leaving the 100m.
 
Jockey N Day (CEOL NA MARA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in leaving the 250m when insufficiently clear of GIVEMEAMINUTE which was taken inwards tightening the running of LOVE OF DUBAI. LOVE OF DUBAI had to be checked and lost ground when tightened for room between GIVEMEAMINUTE and VERANES which was also inconvenienced. Jockey N Day was suspended from riding in races for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 23/10/18 and to expire midnight 01/11/18.
 
 
RACE 7: Attwood Marshall Lawyers QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Handicap – 1300m
 
TOO HOT TO HOLD - Began awkwardly.
 
POWERFUL LASS - Began awkwardly. Leaving the 1100 was hampered by FOOZLE which was taken in by MOSS CHEVAL and then hung in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
HEZA GOOD BOY - Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and lost ground. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
WE CALL HER LOLA - Hampered at the start.
 
LILIERO - Hampered at the start.
 
SHE ZA BOSS - A short distance after the start was inconvenienced. Near the 800m improved onto the heels of CAPE HELLES and shifted out. Jockey C Whiteley reported that the filly over-raced in the early and middle stages and refused to settle despite his efforts which in his opinion had a detrimental effect on its performance.
 
FOOZLE - Leaving the 1100m had to be steadied when tightened for room between POWERFUL LASS and MOSS CHEVAL which shifted in. Jockey N Day (MISS CHEVAL) was severely reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear. In assessing this matter stewards were mindful of the racing manners of POWERFUL LASS which after initially suffering interference then contributed to the interference which was suffered by CAPE HELLES and LOCUST.
 
LOCUST - Approaching the 1000m was severely tightened for room and made heavy contact with the running rail.
 
CAPE HELLES - Approaching the 1000m was inconvenienced when tightened for room.
 
MOSS CHEVAL - Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
 
RACE 8: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Class 1 Handicap – 1200m
 
Trainer M Eggleston was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of Jockey S Doyle on ROSELLA GIRL.
 
Prior to the announcement of correct weight, App. A Fancourt (PLAY THING – 4th) and Jockey N Day (STARKERS – 2nd) viewed the patrol footage to ascertain whether they had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner CATALINA MISS (Jockey L Dittman) over the final 200m. App. Fancourt elected not to proceed. Jockey N Day subsequently proceeded with the objection. Stewards established that leaving the 150m CATALINA MISS did shift out under pressure resulting in STARKERS being inconvenienced, however, bearing in mind the margin of three-quarters of a length at the finish, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference had a material effect on the placings and dismissed the protest.
 
MISS DEFIANCE underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers after being kicked by another runner and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4.18 pm. All monies invested on MISS DEFIANCE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 4.18 pm:-

FOXARELLI - Blundered badly on jumping away. Bumped a short distance later.
 
BULLION BELLE - Stood flat-footed as the start was effected. Trainer B Lockwood was advised that a warning will be placed on the mares barrier manners. Over the concluding stages was eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of ARC LIGHT.
 
MR RED SHOES - Slow to begin.
 
CAPTAIN CARTS - Began awkwardly.
 
OUT FOR JUSTICE - Began awkwardly.
 
ARC LIGHT - Bumped at the start. Leaving the 200m shifted out under pressure and had to be steadied.
 
PLAY THING - Hampered shortly after the start. Upon straightening had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of STARKERS and again over the concluding stages was eased when tightened for room.
 
STARKERS - Near the 700m improved onto the heels of CATALINA MISS and shifted out. Near the 150m was steadied away from the heels of CATALINA MISS and shifted out.
 
CATALINA MISS - Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.
 
RACE 9: Revelstone Stud BenchMark 75 Handicap – 1400m
 
Stewards accepted the explanation of Trainer D Murphy for the late declaration of Jockey A Fancourt on MISHANI PHOENIX.
 
Jockey J Woodhouse was fined the sum of $100 for failing to fulfil his riding engagement on DELOS due to being overweight. Jockey Woodhouse was replaced by Jockey N Thomas.
 
DELOS - Slow to begin.
 
BALIUS - Steadied and lost ground when tightened for room leaving the 1300m. App. C Frater-Hill was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts right out to the end of the race. Upon return to the enclosure after the race, App. C Frater-Hill was dislodged and after being examined by the Queensland Ambulance Service was cleared of any injuries.
 
HAPPY GO PLUCKY - Steadied and lost ground when tightened for room leaving the 1300m.
 
LOTA CREEK GOLD - Leaving the 1300m inconvenienced by SHARPAMAL which shifted in
 
MARTINELLI - After obtaining a position outside the leader, commenced to over-race and refused to settle despite the efforts of its rider during the early and middle stages of the event.
 
BENFICA PRINCESS - Raced wide without cover throughout. When questioned as to the performance, Jockey S Galloway reported that the mare failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure leaving the 600m and in his option was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from the near side nostril along with some external abrasions to its nose. As it could not be determined that the presence of blood in the nostril was due solely to external trauma trainer K Doughty was advised that the mare must gallop 1000m to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start. Ms Doughty indicated that the mare would be given a 6 week freshen up following todays performance.
 
App. J Hodge (SHARPAMAL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LOTA CREEK GOLD which was taken in onto BALIUS which as a consequence was tightened for room and had to be checked. HAPPY GO PLUCKY also had to be steadied and lost ground as a result of the tightening. App. J Hodge was suspended from riding in races for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 24/10/18 and to expire midnight 02/11/18.
 
RACE 10: Canary Bar – Cox Plate Ratings Band 0 – 62 Handicap – 1400m
 
Trainer D Murphy was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of Jockey C Whiteley on SKYTASTIC.
