GENERAL
 
Trainer J Smerdon was found guilty of a charge under AR175(p) for refusing to comply with a requirement of Stewards to hand over the ID card of FRENCH VIDA which was formerly trained by Mr Smerdon. Mr Smerdon was fined the sum of $400.
 
 
Race 1 - Gallery Seafood Buffet $69.00 Maiden Handicap – 1100m
 
The start was delayed when concerns were raised by Stewards about a section of track near the 900 metre point. After some remedial works were performed, officials and riders were satisfied to proceed with the running of Race 1.
 
Heart of Toorak – Trainer advised that the gelding underwent knee surgery to remove a bone chip following its last start and it will be ridden further forward today. Ridden accordingly.
 
Exactamente - Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
Ronnie - Began awkwardly and blundered.
 
Itsa - Approaching the 800m, shifted in of its own accord and made heavy contact with the running rail and in doing so lost ground.
 
Wind River - Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Mr Stapleford – The gelding returned to the enclosure post-race displaying an abnormal respiratory sound. Trainer B Hull advised that the gelding would now be retired. Nonetheless, Mr Hull was advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards should it race again.
 
 
Race 2 - Girls on Tour April 6th Maiden Handicap – 1400m
 
Light and Fancy - Began awkwardly. Near the 1000m placed in restricted room and bumped the running rail. Hung in throughout the home straight and proved difficult to ride.
 
Follow the Money - Slow to begin.
 
Raging Royal - Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Stryking Emerald – Slow to begin. Near the 1000m, steadied when tightened for room.
 
Savvy Hussler - Hung out during the middle stages of the event.
 
 
Race 3 - $1.5m Jewel Raceday Packages on Sale Class 4 Handicap – 1800m
 
Seento - Slow to begin.
 
Perilous Love - Hampered at the start.
 
Winkler - Over-raced in the early stages. Near the 1600m had to be steadied when tightened for room by LE MATTAN which shifted in. Jockey A Spinks (Le Mattan) was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
Fighting Teo - When caught wide early, was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader.
 
Le Mattan – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Jockey A Spinks stated that the gelding began better than expected and settled in a forward position. Jockey Spinks was of the view that the early moderate tempo also assisted in gaining a more forward position, however, this was not his intention. Stewards noted his comments.
 
Sidetrip – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
 
Race 4 - $1.5m Jewel Raceday March 16 BenchMark 65 Handicap – 900m
 
The start was delayed when STELLARCRAFT and RAVENS WING both proved difficult to load. Trainer D Murphy (STELLARCRAFT) was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners.
 
Ask Audrey - Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Loveson - Hampered at the start.
 
Ravens Wing - Shortly after the start steadied from heels.
 
Stellarcraft - Approaching the 200m, disappointed for a run to the outside of ASK AUDREY and was momentarily steadied away from the heels of that runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer D Murphy was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to its next start.
 
 
Race 5 - Pro Rata Membership on Sale QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 900m
 
Trainer L Gough was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of Jockey L Tilley on COACH CARTER.
 
After being fractious in the barriers, FOXY BELLA underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2.38pm. All monies invested on FOXY BELLA were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 2.38pm:-

Trainer K Doughty will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the fillys next start.
 
Courageous Chloe - Began awkwardly.
 
Divine Essie - Began awkwardly. Leaving the 600m was steadied from the heels of MISS MOSS when that runner commenced to hang out.
 
Kitty Damour - Began awkwardly. Leaving the 600m was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of MISS MOSS which hung out. Bumped near the 300m. Leaving the 100m, raced in restricted room between BEAT ZA DRUM and CUZCO both of which shifted ground. As a consequence buffeted with CUZCO over the concluding stages.
 
Dream Piece - Slow to begin and then hampered a short distance later. Between the 600m and 500m had to be checked from the heels of KITTY DAMOUR and near the 500m shifted out and bumped another runner.
 
Coach Carter - Raced very greenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 500m was bumped on a number of occasions. The gelding was found to have bled in both nostrils following the event. Trainer L Gough was advised that the gelding will incur a mandatory three month ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A.
 
Cuzco - Near the 800m clipped the heels of COACH CARTER and blundered. Passing the 500m bumped by COACH CARTER. Bumped near the 300m. Buffeted with KITTY DAMOUR over the concluding stages.
 
Miss Moss - Stewards enquired into an incident leaving the 600m where MISS MOSS had to be checked from the heels of ELITE GREY and lost ground. During the enquiry Jockey A Allen reported that MISS MOSS commenced to hang out of its own accord leaving the 600m and due to the fillys racing manners he was obliged to check away from the heels of ELITE GREY. As a consequence, Stewards advised Trainer P Butterworth that a warning would be placed on the fillys racing manners.
 
Fleur De Jour - A post-race veterinary examination of the filly which tailed the field throughout revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K Martin was advised that the filly must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
Elite Grey – Leaving the 600m bumped on the hindquarters by MISS MOSS and became unbalanced. Trainer M Lakey reported that the filly had sustained some lacerations to its off hind leg consistent with being galloped on.
 
 
Race 6 - $500K AQUIS QTIS 2yo Jewel March 16 BM 65 Handicap – 1200m
 
Our Rocky – Slow to begin.
 
Princess Roulette – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
 
 
Race 7 - $500K TAB A.D. Hollindale Stakes Class 2 Handicap – 1400m
 
Angelas Beauty - Hampered at the start when tightened for room. Held up approaching the winning post.
 
Glamorous Miss - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
Rakhish - Held up approaching the home turn.
 
Charming Prince - Laid in under pressure in the home straight and near the 300m bumped MOGUL.
 
Mogul – Bumped near the 300m.
 
Second Thought - On returning to scale Jockey R Plumb reported that the mare got its tongue over the bit.
 
 
Race 8 - Racing Wednesday February 20 Class 1 Handicap – 1200m
 
Mount Panorama – Due to a clerical error, it was advertised that the gelding would race in an offside bubble cheeker. The gelding did not race with that gear at its last start at Doomben and therefore, the absence of the offside bubble cheeker was not a gear change. A public announcement was made to this effect.
 
Bullion Belle - Stood flat-footed as the start was effected. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
Tesarc - Began awkwardly.
 
Chicka Boom - Began awkwardly.
 
Boomista - Near the 1000m had to be steadied from the heels of JUNCTION which shifted in. Jockey G Colless (JUNCTION) was reprimanded. When questioned as to the performance App. J Grob stated that the filly travelled into the race nicely, however, peaked on its run passing the 300 and in his opinion proved disappointing. App. Grob noted that a nasal strip had been added to the fillys gear for the first time today. App. Grob added that passing the winning post the filly made an abnormal respiratory sound and as such may benefit from the addition of a tongue tie. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Satyricon - Over-raced during the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
Junction - Steadied from heels for some distance passing the 700m.
 
App. C Frater-Hill (INKBLOT) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
