Race 2 – Hairy Hannaford C,G&E Maiden Handicap – 1200m

Rogue Drummer – Slow to begin.

Gran De Luke – Slow to begin.

Merlin Cradle – Began Awkwardly.

Airdale – Bumped at the start.

Successor – Over-raced in the early stages.

Poet Lad – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Buchinski – Raced wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg, a consequence of a suspected tendon injury. Trainer P Moncrieff was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the geldings next start.

Race 3 – MWM: Yours in Success F&M Maiden Handicap – 1200m

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Jockey L. Tarrant, rider of the 2nd placegetter Bonne Vie, viewed the patrol footage to see if he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner Rather Salubriouis (L. McCoy). After viewing the films, Jockey Tarrant elected not to proceed with an objection.

Lamplight Lili – Trainer B. Hull advised stewards of a change of tactics, to be ridden handy with cover if circumstances permit. Restrained in the early stages in an effort to obtain cover, however, when caught wide was allowed to stride forward to settle outside the leader. Bumped near the 200m and became unbalanced.

Off to the Rippas – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the early stages and near the 1000m was steadied from the heels of Bunched. Then over-raced during the middle stages. Jockey N. Day reported that the mare may be better suited without a tongue tie at its next start.

Calabria – Began awkwardly. Near the 600m was steadied from heels. Upon straightening was bumped by Calisto.

Wind River – Slow to begin.

Splendid Spirit – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. Bumped near the 200m.

Calisto – Had to be steadied from heels near the 600m.

Bonne Vie – Near the 600m improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

Rather Salubrious – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

Duvessa – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Jockey G. Colless stated that his instructions were to obtain cover behind the leaders. Jockey Colless added that he was obliged to pressure the mare in the early stages to cross Bunched after which he noted that both Rather Salubrious and Leadlight Lili were pressing forward from outside gates. Therefore he elected to comply with his instructions instead of attempting to maintain the lead as he was concerned that the pressure from the outside runners pressing forward would have resulted in a strong tempo. Jockey Colless noted that after Rather Salubrious obtained the lead, the speed of the race slackened. Jockey Colless further added that rounding the home turn he anticipated that Rather Salubrious would remain on the fence and therefore elected to shift out in an effort to obtain a run to the outside of that runner. However, shortly after electing to shift out, Rather Salubrious then shifted out resulting in him being held up until a point leaving the 200m after which the mare was able to secure clear running back to the inside of Rather Salubrious. Jockey Colless added that after being disappointed for the run upon straightening, he initially was hopeful of forcing a run between Rather Salubrious and Leadlight Lili but leaving the 300m it became clear he would be unable to obtain that run and was then obliged to restrain the mare so as to shift back in across the heels of Rather Salubrious. Jockey Colless was of the opinion that after securing clear running over the final 200m the mare only finished the race off fairly. Stable foreman T. Edmonds confirmed the instructions.

Race 4 – 2K Thoroughbreds Class 1 Handicap – 900m

Trainer J. Smerdon was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of Jockey L. Rolls on My Unicorn.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Jockey M. McGuren the rider of the 3rd placegetter Sanglier, viewed the patrol footage to see if he had grounds to lodge an objection against the 2nd placegetter Arrow Express (S. Sweeney). After viewing the films, Jockey McGuren elected not to proceed with an objection.

Flying Machine – Slow to begin.

Brilee Rose – Began awkwardly. Near the 400m had to be checked from the heels of Flying Machine which shifted out. Stewards considered an objection lodged by App. C. Gallagher the rider of Supersonic Boom which finished 5th against Doctor Zed (App. L Kilner) being declared the 4th placegetter on the grounds of alleged interference approaching the 200m. Stewards established that Supersonic Boom was checked when tightened for room between Jobiwood which shifted out initially and Doctor Zed which also shifted in. Due to Jobiwood contributing to the interference suffered by Supersonic Boom, Doctor Zed could not be held solely responsible for the interference and as a consequence stewards dismissed the protest.

Supersonic Boom – Bumped at the start. Approaching the 200m was checked when tightened for room between Jobiwood and Doctor Zed (L. Kilner). App. L. Kilner pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 200m she shifted in when insufficiently clear of Supersonic Boom thereby contributing to the interference suffered by that runner. Due to the contributing nature of the interference, App. Kilners licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 4 days to be served concurrently with the other suspension she received from this race.

App. Kilners licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 04/03/2019 and to expire midnight 15/03/2019, to be served concurrently with the other suspension she received from this race. Decoder – Slow to begin. Passing the 1300m was hampered by Coco Fashion which shifted in. Over-raced in the early stages.

Izzah – Shifted in at the start and bumped Kijito and as a consequence became unbalanced. Shifted out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
