From Aquis Gold Coast Turf Club – Race 9 Vale Ben Moore Class 1 Handicap - 26 June 2020
Jockey M. Murphy (ANKARA FOX – 6th placegetter) was found guilty of a charge under AR131(b) in that he failed to fully ride his mount out to the finish and in the opinion of stewards cost the gelding 5th place. Jockey Murphy was fined $500.
 
Race 1 – Vale Ethel Kerrison QTIS 2YO Maiden Handicap – 900m
 
LEMON DUCHESS - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BIG WIG. Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider reported that his mount hung out rounding the home turn.
 
DAZZLING QUEEN - Slow to begin.
 
TOGZ - Slow to begin. Hung out rounding the home turn and in the home straight. Rider S. Doyle reported that the filly raced greenly for the majority of the event.
 
BIG WIG - Bumped at the start. Raced wide with cover throughout. Held up approaching the 400m before shifting back to the inside to obtain clear running.
 
OUTBACK HEIGHTS - Raced wide without cover throughout. Near the 400m, steadied away from the heels of IM MAGICAL which shifted out.
 
PALATE - Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
JABALI GOLD - Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
WARRIOR CAT - Raced wide without cover.
 
IM MAGICAL - Raced greenly in the early stages. Held up from the 600m until the entrance to the home straight.
 
THE DARLING - Held up from the 400m until passing the 200m.
 
Race 2 – Jay Pask Boutique Main Beach Maiden Handicap – 1100m
 
OLYMPIC DAWN - Slow to begin. Approaching the 400m the filly became awkward in its action and fell dislodging rider R. Palmer. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities, however, the veterinary surgeon was of the opinion that OLYMPIC DAWN may have choked down. Trainer I. Livingstone advised Stewards that it was his intention to now retire the filly from racing. Stewards, however, advised Mr Livingstone that if circumstances were to change, OLYMPIC DAWN must trial satisfactorily, undergo an ECG and Endoscopic examination before its next race start. R. Palmer was examined by the QAS officers and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.
 
MOON BOOM - Jumped out at the start and bumped ISOLANO.
 
ISOLANO - Bumped at the start.
 
RONNIE - Jumped out at the start and bumped ROSTRUM.
 
ROSTRUM - Bumped at the start.
 
XUANNU - Performed below market expectation. Rider J. Taylor stated that the filly travelled well in the run to the home turn, however, when placed under pressure leaving the 400m failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.
 
Race 3 – Follow@GCturfclub Maiden Handicap – 1800m
 
As Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was to be overweight, he was replaced on HOSTILE STAR by Jockey R. Palmer. Jockey Guthmann-Chester was subsequently reprimanded.
 
RIVERKY - Trainer S. Kurz advised stewards that it was the intention to have the gelding ridden more forward today from the wide gate. After being caught wide in the early and middle stages, was allowed to stride forward and settle outside the leader near the 1100m.
 
SO YOURE MAGIC - Jumped out at the start and made contact with EASTMAN which lost ground.
 
MONDENA - Tightened at the start and lost ground. Raced three wide for the majority of the event. Forced wider on the track from the 600m. Rider A. Allen reported that his mount hung out at various stages throughout the event.
 
ETHEREUM - Jumped in at the start, bumping MONDENA. Caught wide in the early and middle stages before progressing forward to obtain the lead near the 1100m.
 
TO DEM WITH LOVE - Over-raced in the early stages. Tactics query - In particular, the reason for restraining the filly between the 1600m and the 1300m when inclined to over-race, resulting in QUOTANT which was racing three wide and forward of TO DEM WITH LOVE shifting in and obtaining a one wide position with cover. Rider J. Taylor stated that the filly which was up in distance today was racing keenly at that point and was reluctant to place his mount under pressure to hold a forward position. J. Taylor further stated rather than placing the filly under pressure, he elected to permit QUOTANT to shift in and gain cover allowing TO DEM WITH LOVE being able to follow the race favourite. In noting the explanation, Stewards advised J. Taylor not to ride in a manner that leads himself open to question.
 
EASTMAN – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Tailed the field throughout. Trainer D. Duryea advised Stewards that it was his intention to retire the gelding due to it being uncompetitive. Stewards further placed a warning on the racing manners of EASTMAN due to being uncompetitive.
 
STARRY BEAUTY – App. M. Kennedy could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the filly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
Jockey C. Taylor (ETHEREUM) was fined $200 for use of the whip 9 times prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account Jockey Taylors good record in relation to this rule. Stewards also reprimanded Jockey C. Taylor in relation to consecutive strikes prior to the 100m.
 
Jockey J. Taylor (TO DEM WITH LOVE) was fined $200 for use of the whip 7 times prior to the 100m.
 
Race 4 – Book Online GCTC.com.au QTIS 3yo Maiden Handicap – 1200m
 
TRUMPED UP - Slow to begin. Bumped at the 500m. Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
BLONDE N READY - Slow to begin. Near the 500m, crowded for room to the inside of BLAZING FAIRY which improved to the inside of the heels of EIGHTYEIGHT BRICKS for a short distance. Rider A. Allen (BLAZING FAIRY) was advised to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
DOTNED - Slow to begin. Raced three wide with cover throughout. Rider C. Taylor reported that his mount did not feel right in its action rounding the home turn and was eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
ISABELLAS SPRING - Raced three wide for the majority of the event. In the home straight, laid in.
 
BLAZING FAIRY - Had to be steadied away from the heels of EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS near the 700m. Near the 500m improved to the inside of EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS and had to be steadied.
 
DYNAMIC DUO - Held up from the 600m until the entrance to the home straight.
 
CHALET GRAND - Near the 800m carried four wide by TRUMPED UP which shifted out to avoid the heels of BLAZING FAIRY when the pace steadied. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
Race 5 – Membership Renewals Open Class 4 Plate – 1400m
 
Trainer A. Williamson was fined $100 for the late declaration of Jockey R. Wiggins on OCEAN WAVES.
 
LADY RINGO - Slow to begin.
 
OCEAN WAVES - From the wide gate was restrained at the start, shifted across runners to settle in a position closer to the rails.

RED DOULTON - Laid in rounding the home turn and in the home straight.
 
INVICTUS PRINCE - (1.45 beaten fav) - Rider D. Griffin reported that the gelding did not feel right in its action. Trainer M. Smith stated that it was his intention to continue with the horses current preparation and would advise stewards of any condition which may come to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the horses performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
 
Race 6 – Renew Your Membership Today F&M Benchmark 62 Handicap – 1300m
 
FLAUNT - Slow to begin. Forced wide rounding the home turn.
 
LAMMA HILTON - Slow to begin and unable to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider.
 
ARABELLA EKCELS - Raced three wide for the majority of the event before giving ground in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
LOVESPEED - Inclined to lay in under pressure between the 250m until near the 100m.
 
Rider R. Palmer (ZIGALLENE) was reminded of her obligations in relation to the use of her whip prior to the 100m.
 
Race 7 – TAB C,G&E Benchmark 62 Handicap – 1300m
 
CATCH ME LATAR - Slow to begin.
 
CLICKETY CLICKS - Bumped at the start and as a result lost ground. The saddle shifted in the early stages placing its rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event and the gelding being uncompetitive.
 
YABA DABL DOYA - Shifted out at the start and bumped with CLICKETY CLICKS. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a cut to its near fore leg. Trainer K. Deacon was advised that he must obtain a veterinary clearance prior to the geldings next race start.
 
KATHMANDU - From the wide draw was restrained at the start to obtain a position closer to the rails. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
SAMURAI - Shifted three wide passing the 900m.
 
WOOKIEE – (Tactics query, led) – Rider A. Allen reported that his mount began extremely well and with the lack of speed in the event settled further forward without being ridden along.
 
Race 8 – Girls on Tour August 1 Benchmark 65 Handicap – 1800m
 
BATTLE PLANE was a late scratching at 11.48am acting on veterinary advice after the gelding sustained lacerations to the near hind leg. Trainer T. & M. Sears were advised that they must obtain a veterinary clearance for BATTLE PLANE prior to its next race start.
 
CHARLIES WORLD – Tactics query - Rider R. Wiggins stated his instructions were to go forward at the start, however, after being slow to begin settled at the rear of the field. Leaving the 1600m when the pace steadied, then shifted wider on the track and progressed forward to obtain the lead near the 1200m. Stewards noted the explanation of R. Wiggins.
 
SHELTER LADY - Began awkwardly.
 
STORM HARBOUR - Approaching the 1500m shifted wider on the track and progressed forward to settle in a position behind the leader at the 1200m.
 
MISHANI ROMANCE – Raced three wide during the early stages.
 
BLUE COMET - Raced three wide until the 800m before obtaining a position outside the leader. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight.
 
EIRA - Held up from the 400m until approaching the 200m.
 
OWN SWEET WAY – Near the 400m, checked to avoid the heels of THRUM which shifted out and away from SAVASPUR which had been carried out by MISHANI ROMANCE. Rider J. Taylor (THRUM) was advised to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances and in not taking more severe action Stewards took into account that his mount had laid in leading up to the incident before shifting out.
 
CASURINA STAR - Performed below market expectation. Rider A. Allen reported that he was disappointed with the performance and could offer no explanation. Trainer Trent Edmonds indicated the stable may experiment with a gear change before the mares next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
THRUM – When questioned in relation to the apparent improved performance today, Stable representative for Trainer C. Waller, stated that they were not disappointed with its last start on 26 June 2020 at the Gold Coast over 1800m as the gelding, in their opinion, was not suited to the soft 6 track conditions.
 
P. Hamblin rider of OWN SWEET WAY was reminded of his obligations in using the whip six times prior to the 100m.
