Race Horse Rider Replaced By Reason

Race 1 – Laurie Manzelmann Memorial Class 4 Plate – 1300m
HAYINGTON - Became fractious in the gates prior to the start being effected and then was slow to begin.
MAEVE IN MANHATTAN – Overraced in the middle stages. Rider L. Tilley reported he had some concerns with the mare’s action on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
THE CHEETAH - Commenced to weaken after passing the 300m. Rider J. Stanley desisted from riding his mount out over the final 200m as the gelding was making an abnormal respiratory noise. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
ZOFFANY ROCKET – Weakened over the concluding stages. Rider W. D’Avila reported that, in his opinion, the gelding may have got its tongue back and choked down. Trainer J. Manzelmann advised stewards that he would experiment with the addition of a tongue-tie at its next start.

Race 2 – Book Event Centre For Functions Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1800m
Correct weight was delayed to allow the stewards and connections of MISHNAH to view the footage of the start to ascertain if it was denied a fair start. Subsequently, stewards were of the opinion that the horse’s own manners was the sole reason for it jumping awkwardly and being slowly away and therefore declared the horse to be a runner.
CRAIGLEA VIRTUE – Slow to begin.
MISHNAH – Reared as the start was effected and got its head over the off-side barrier partition, and then began awkwardly and lost significant ground. Trainer J. Wehlow was advised that the gelding would need to complete two barrier trials to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
VEGAS FLYER – Overraced in the middle stages and had to be restrained from heels passing the 1100m.

Race 3 – Seven Mackay Benchmark 69 H’cap – 1560m
PERSISTENT SHADOW – Bumped on jumping away.
KANUI – Began awkwardly.

Race 4 – TAB QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1300m
Correct weight was delayed to allow connections of equal 1st placegetters SHENRON and MISS FLAWLESS to view the photo-finish print for 1st. Subsequently both connections were satisfied with the Judges’ decision.
OUTSPOKEN – Trainer M. Attard advised that if circumstances permit the filly would be ridden more forward. After being unable to show speed in the early stages the filly settled worse than midfield.
CRAIGLEA GALIO – After arriving at the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the request of its rider and cleared to start. Passing the 700m faltered and broke down and was retired from the event. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered an injury to its off foreleg. The horse was treated and transported to a nearby veterinary clinic for further examination and tests. Trainer’s representative Mr S. Johnston was advised that a veterinary clearance would need to be provided prior to the gelding racing again. A post-race swab sample was taken.
After dismounting, jockey L. Tilley reported he had some soreness in his right wrist. After undergoing an examination by Queensland Ambulance personnel was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
RAUNCHY WOMAN – Stood flatfooted and was slow to begin.
MYSTERY ELEMENT – Passing the 700m had to be checked and shifted away from the heels of CRAIGLEA GALIO.

Race 5 – Join 100 Club Maiden H’cap – 1050m
The start of this race was delayed due to the incident which occurred in the previous race.
BEYONCNEIGH – Displaced its tongue-tie when proceeding to the barriers, and as it was unable to be refitted, the filly raced without that piece of gear. Slow to begin. Trainer T. Cook was advised that a warning would be placed against the filly regarding its barrier manners.
MIGHTY MEERKAT – Bumped on jumping away.
TOP RUNG – Bumped on jumping away. Overraced passing the 800m and at a point approaching the 700m had to be severely checked from the heels of FAIRMONT and shifted out abruptly, making heavy contact with THINK I CAN CAREEN, which in turn shifted out and made heavy contact with TALA RIKISA. Mr P. Flemming, trainer of TOP RUNG, was advised that a warning would be placed against the gelding for its racing manners.
THINK I CAN CAREEN – Began awkwardly and then was severely checked and became unbalanced. Shortly after resented being restrained and then passing the 700m was heavily bumped and forced wider on the track. Trainer T. Cook was advised due to the poor performance of the gelding its nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until such time as his form improved at non-TAB meetings.

TALA RISKA – Passing the 700m was heavily bumped by THINK I CAN CAREEN, which was taken out by TOP RUNG and was forced very wide on the course losing significant ground. Jockey L. Tilley, rider of TALA RISKA, refrained from pressuring his mount over the final stages as the horse had lost significant ground due to the interference.

Race 6 – Caneland Central Mackay Turf Girl Open H’cap – 1050m
GINGERSNAP - Jockey E. Smith was dislodged in the mounting enclosure prior to entering the track, sustaining a harmless fall and was cleared to ride. Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition and shifted out. Then when racing three wide with cover passing the 800m and had to be steadied when tightened for room between CYCLONE TOPGIRL, which shifted out and SNEAKY SNIPER, which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey N. Day, rider of CYCLONE TOPGIRL, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

SNEAKY SNIPER – Laid in at various stages throughout the event.

Race 7 – Smart State Vehicle Rentals Class 2 H’cap – 1100m
PINSTRYKE – Proved difficult to load into the barriers. Tightened for room between runners on jumping away.
GOHAN – Began awkwardly.
ALL ABOUT MAGIC – Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air. Held up for clear running from the 300m until passing the 150m when shifted wider to improve.
BRING ME LUCK – Slowly away, then restrained shortly after the start to take up a position closer to the rail towards the rear of the field.
