Race 2: 2019 XXXX GOLD WINTER RACING CARNIVAL CLASS 3 PLATE – 1600M

COLORADO RIVER – When asked if he could offer any explanation for the gelding’s performance, rider C. Whiteley stated that his mount hung out throughout the race and rounding the home turn he felt that the gelding was not travelling as well as he would have expected. He added that near the 500m COLORADO RIVER failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing from that point onwards. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding had a slower than normal post-race recovery. Trainer J. Wehlow was advised that in light of the gelding’s poor performance today, COLORADO RIVER must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to being permitted to race again. A swab sample was taken.

GLADISHING – M. Stephens was found guilty of charges under AR132(7)(a)(i) and (ii) in that prior to the 100m he used the whip in consecutive strides and on more than 5 occasions, being in total 18 strikes with the whip.
