GENERAL
 
Jockey C Meehan was unable to for fill his riding engagement due to illness. Apprentice M Savva was unable to fulfil her riding engagements due to injury. Rider changes as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 8 - MASTER BAYLEE declared a late scratching at 12:22pm on Vets advise. Trainer J Edwards was advised the gelding will require a Veterinary Clearance prior to racing or trialling again.
 
Race 1: CHANGE EXCHANGE Maiden Handicap 1600 metres
 
NOT TOO HARD (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Rider J Orman reported that after travelling strongly throughout, the filly failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and he had concerns with the horses breathing post-race. He stated in his opinion the horse may have had its tongue over the bit during the event. A post-race veterinary examination identified poor post-race recovery. Trainer B Healey reported that the filly will now be sent for a spell.
 
SKAGERAK (NZ) – Caught wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the lead  near the 1000m. Rider L Dittman lost the use of his offside reign for a short distance near the 400m.
 
ENTERPRISE MAXIMUS – Bumped on jumping, Raced keen in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 200m was disappointed for a run and shifted out to obtain clear running.
 
ATOMIC BOMB – After arriving late on course was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. Trainer M Dunn was fined a sum of $200 under LR30 for presenting the horse late on course. Rider M Hellyer reported the gelding laid in throughout.
 
FIORENTE STAR – Rider M Du Plessis questioned in regards to the tactics adopted as the gelding settled at the tail of the field which is in contrast to its most recent starts. He indicated that he was instructed to obtain cover as the horse had not been finishing off when ridden in a forward position. Trainer B Lockwood confirmed that he had asked rider M Du Plessis to obtain cover however had not expected the horse to settle at the tail of the field and as such did not feel today’s tactics were necessarily a change. Stewards noted that FIORENTE STAR had begun awkwardly and in the circumstances were satisfied that Mr Lockwood be reprimanded under AR100.
 
 
Race 2: ENDED LTD QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1600 metres
 
CHELIMO – Change of tactics – will be ridden further forward that in previous starts. Ridden accordingly.
 
CLAIRVUE JET – Tightened between runners on jumping and was checked and lost ground.
 
GLASHABEE – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages and was awkwardly placed at heels until leaving the 1200m and as a result, shifted to a three wide position and remained wide until a point near the 800m
 
VOIGHT – Bumped on the hind quarter shortly after jumping and became momentarily unbalanced.
 
CRAIGLEA CLINKERS – Bumped on jumping. Whilst weakening near the 400m was obliged to steady when placed in restricted room.
 
LAZARETTE - Tightened between runners on jumping and was checked and lost ground.
 
SPILL QUEEN – Obliged to race in restricted room during the early stages of the home straight between CHELIMO and SPIRIT'S CHARM which laid in under pressure.
 
SPIRIT'S CHARM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight cause the ridder difficulty in testing his mount.
 
Race 3: 3 KUNDA PARK AUTO QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap
1000 metres
 
LICENCE TO THRILL – Tightened on jumping and lost ground. App K Cowan reported that the horse raced greenly throughout and she was obliged to pressure throughout. She added that the gelding will derive benefit from the race experience.
 
SINGLE MALT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Rider M Cahill reported that the gelding after beginning awkwardly was reluctant to quicken in the early stages and raced somewhat greenly. He added that the horse was doing its best work over the concluding stages. Trainer T Haydon advised that the horse will now be sent for a spell.
 
SOUNDS DIVINE – Arrived at the barriers with blood in its mouth and as a result underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. Held up round the home turn and altered course near the 150m to obtain clear running. Rider M McGillivray dropped his whip near the 200m.
 
SWEET MARGOT MAY – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide throughout.
 
LAIDE – Raced extremely wide throughout. Rider S Thornton could offer any further explanation as to today’s performance. Performed below market expectations and as a result underwent a post-race veterinary examination identified poor post-race recovery. Trainer B Lockwood advised that the filly will now be sent for a spell.
 
MISS PIPER – Over-raced badly in the middle stages and as a result was awkwardly placed at heels.
 
Race 4: INKSPOT PRINTERS QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap
1000 metres
 
RED VODKA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced extremely wide throughout.
 
SO SILENT – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
WESTERN WALL – Slow to begin. Tightened for room over the concluding stages and had to be restrained when racing to the inside of ELBOWVALLEY DANCER. Jockey G Walters was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
PUBS AND KISSES – Approaching the 600m placed in restricted room and had to be steadied when racing to the inside of UNCOMMON JAMES which shifted in before being taken in further by EMMY REGINA which also shifted in. Jockey Andrew Spinks (EMMY REGINA) was issued a reprimand under AR131(a) for this incident. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until a point near the 300m.
 
ELBOWVALLEY DANCER – Whilst over racing leaving the 700m had to be checked from the heels of PUBS AND KISSES which lost ground at that point of the race.
 
SHE SHALL RULE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
After the running of this race Jockey Andrew Spinks was stood down by the club doctor. Rider changes as per summary.
 
Race 5: PORT CITY AIR CONDITIONING Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
The start was delayed approximately 5 minutes when TRY TO BE GOOD dislodged its rider galloped a circuit of the course before making heavy contact with the outside fence and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4:49pm
 
All monies invested on TRY TO BE GOOD were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 4:49pm:

A post race veterinary examination of TRY TO BE GOOD identified a minor abrasion to the near fore leg. Stable representative N Hemmings was notified that a warning will be placed geldings pre-race manners.
 
Jockey A Sewell was stood down by the Club Doctor, riding changes as per summary.
 
ZEPHYR CRUISER - Trainer D Newham was fined $200 for the late declaration of B Thompson as the rider. Rider B Thompson advised that it had been his intent to settle with cover however when caught wide in the early stages he elected to press forward to obtain a position outside the lead approaching the 600m.
 
COMMENTS – Improved onto heels after pass the 600m and then was held up for clear running until a point near the 300m
 
KICK HI – Proved difficult to load and was fractious in the barrier before being slow to begin and losing significant ground. Trainer B Gill was advised that a warning will be placed on the geldings barriers manners.
 
SAM'S A NATURAL – Improved onto heels near the 500m and had to be steadied.
 
CALATHIEL – Slow to begin.
 
THINK SHE'S GOOD (NZ) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
 
Race 6: CHEMIST WAREHOUSE BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
BEAU ARROW – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
WESTHAM - Near the 900m was obliged to race in restricted room to the inside BEAU ARROW. App N Fazackerley was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
BROCKY – Over raced in the early stages
 
DEVILLAIN – Tightened between runners shortly after the start. Raced three wide without cover throughout
 
ROCK ON DESTINY – Slow to begin.
 
MOSCINI – Lost and off fore plate in running.
 
Race 7: I LOVE TURF PROVINCIAL STAYERS - HEAT - BENCHMARK 75
Handicap 2400 metres
 
THATFRIDAYFEELING (NZ) – Hampered on jumping.
 
EDINBURGH – Weakened in the home straight and as a result underwent a post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings. Trainer B Lamming will be interviewed by Stewards in the coming days in regards to the horses performance.
 
ISABELLA'S SPRING – Raced wide until approaching the 1600m.
 
DUTCH DELIGHT (NZ) – Apprentice J Lloyd was granted permission to only claim .5kg of his 1.5kg allowance as he was unable to claim his full allowance. Apprentice J Lloyd was fined $300 under AR143(14)(a).
 
SCILAGO – Tightened for room had to be steadied approaching the 1600m.
 
HE'S THE DEEL – Approaching the 1600m was checked when placed in restricted room to the inside of SCILAGO which was taken in by ISABELLA’S SPRING which shifted in. Jockey S Cormack (ISABELLA'S SPRING)pleaded guilty to a charge to careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that Approaching the 1600m shifted in when insufficiently clear of SCILAGO. Jockey S Cormack’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 13 June 2021 and expire midnight 20 June 2021.
 
Race 8: KSCH CRANES HOISTS RIGGING BENCHMARK 58 Handicap
1000 metres
 
FINAL DECLARATION – Began awkwardly and lost significant ground. Improved onto heels rounding the home turn and had to be checked. Continued to race greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISS TWENTY TWO – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
SINGLE SKIP – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
VOGUE ROCK – After passing the 900m was tightened for room and buffeted between runners when SINGLE SKIP was taken in by ONE MORE PINOT. Jockey B Stewart (ONE MORE PINOT) was reprimanded under AR131(a) for this incident.
 
WHO SHOT MAGGIE – Shifted out abruptly near the 100m.
 
THE BUMBLEBEE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
SHE'S A MITZY – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
FEARLESS QUEEN – Blundered on jumping lost ground.
 
DREAMALINA – Near the 900m was bumped on the hind quarters by VOGUE ROCK and became unbalanced. Over raced in the middle stages before being held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
ONAROLL – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
Race 9: JAMES ACKERMAN MEMORIAL Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres
 
TRIBUTE KING (NZ) – Held up for clear running from the 600m and was disappointed for a run near the 500m and had to be checked before shifting out and making heavy contact with RUBY’S LAD. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination identified the gelding to be lame in off hind leg. Trainer S Ritchie was notified that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance prior to the horse racing or trialing again.
 
BELISTIC MAN – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
RUBY'S LAD – Bumped heavily by TRIBUTE KING (NZ) and forced wider rounding the home turn.
 
THRASHER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
