Stewards inquired into the reason for EXIT LOUNGE (A. Thomson) being checked near the 500m. After hearing evidence from A. Thomson, B. Thomson (SPREAD THE NEWS) and
W. D’Avila (RANGERZANE), it was established that near the 500m SPREAD THE NEWS, which was racing ungenerously, shifted out, tightening the running of EXIT LOUNGE, which was further tightened for room by RANGERZANE, which shifted in, and as a result EXIT LOUNGE had to be checked. As stewards could not be satisfied that any one rider was at fault, the matter was reported as a racing incident and no further action was taken.

Race 7: CCW Cabinet Works Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1500m:

Stewards inquired into the reason for ASSERTIVE LOVE falling near the 500m and dislodging rider G. Kliese. Jockey Kliese stated that near the 500m his mount broke down and fell, resulting in him being dislodged. As stewards were satisfied that no other horse or rider was at fault, and after considering the veterinary surgeon’s report, no further action was taken and the inquiry was closed.

Stewards today inquired into the conduct of apprentice A. Thomson at the Cairns Jockey Club meeting on Tuesday 23 January 2018 after the running of Race 5. Ms Thomson was fined the sum of $400.

Stewards opened an inquiry into a complaint lodged by bookmaker Mr D. Tamblyn against fellow bookmaker Mr C. Perkins regarding an incident which took place at Cluden Park Racecourse on Tuesday 7 November 2017.
