Stewards inquired into the reason jockey M. Abe was found to have had a mobile phone in his possession in the jockeys’ room. After hearing initial evidence, Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed to allow an investigation to be carried out into further aspects of this matter.  
 
Race 1: BFQ  Accountants Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1400m
 
IT AND A BIT – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
POLAR BLAST – Had a tendency to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 2: Caltex Yabulu Class 3 Plate – 1609m
 
LIGHT UP VEGAS – Slow to begin.
 
BEAUTIFUL LOVE – Slow to begin. Hung out rounding the home turn and then had a tendency to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
INNER SILENCE – Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination  failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer S. Gabriel-Royes was advised that the gelding’s nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until such time its form may improve by way of country meetings.
 
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Good (4).  
 
Race 3: Northern Rural Group Maiden H’cap – 1400m
 
AGILITY – Began awkwardly. Forced inwards by another runner shortly after the start being  inconvenienced. Rider M. Abe, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 400m he directed his mount outwards to obtain clear running when insufficiently clear of CINQUE STELLA, which was forced out on to the hindquarters of BUXTON, which became unbalanced. Jockey Abe’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 14 days, to commence at midnight, 8 December 2018 and to expire at midnight, 22 December 2018. Stewards deemed this interference mid- range.  
 
GOWAY GIRL – Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start and lost ground. Inconvenienced a short distance after the start by another runner, which was forced inwards, again losing ground.
 
DRUMEOUS – Shifted in abruptly a short distance after the start, inconveniencing runners to its inside. Rider R. Shred was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances. Momentarily crowded for room near the 1100m.
 
CINQUE STGELLA – Restrained from heels leaving the 1000m. Tightened for room and shifted outwards near the 400m. Broke down leaving the 400m and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have ruptured its near side fetlock and was euthanized on humane grounds.
 
SALLY’S SPIRIT – Shifted in momentarily near the 1100m, crowding a runner to its inside.
 
BUXTON – Bumped on the hindquarters near the 400m and became unbalanced.    
 
MAHARG – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
DAESY DANORO – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
WAKOOL – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Race 4: Gallagher Insurance Brokers QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1200m
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey L. Tilley, rider of the 3rd placegetter (Flash Aah),   to view the film approaching the winning post to ascertain if he had grounds for lodging an objection against Dalon being declared the winner. After viewing the film and taking into account the incident occurred in close proximity to the winning post, jockey Tilley did not proceed with an objection and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.
 
DANCING DIVA – Began awkwardly.
 
FALSH AAH – Slow to begin.  Raced greenly in the middle stages and early part of the home straight. Tightened for room and checked approaching the winning post.
 
CRAIGLEA ELLA – Blundered on jumping away.
 
CRAIGLEA GALIO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
AETHERIUS – Shifted in slightly under pressure approaching the winning post.
 
LITTLE ARROWS – Finished tailed off. Trainer W. Kenning will be interviewed at a later date in regards to its performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. 
 
DALON – Rider B. Thomson pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that she allowed her mount to shift out under hard riding approaching the winning post, tightening the running of FLASH AAH resulting in that runner being checked. Miss Thomson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days, to commence at midnight, 15 December 2018 and to expire at midnight, 25 December 2018.
 
Race 5: Wedding Venues Townsville Turf Club Class 6 Plate – 1200m
 
SCHEDULE – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load.
 
LIEUTENANT DAN – Slow to begin.
 
IMANUI – Slow to begin.
 
LATTIMER – Steadied when disappointed for a run near the 450m.
 
SEPTIMO – When questioned in regards to the tactics adopted today, jockey J. Stanley advised stewards it was not his intention to lead, however after beginning well the gelding commenced to over-race and as such he elected to allow the horse to race in a forward position. He also added that blinkers were back on the horse today, which may have contributed to the gelding racing strongly in the middle stages. His explanation was noted.  
 
Race 6: Purcell Taylor Lawyers Ratings Band 0-55 H’cap – 1200m
 
KANUI – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.
 
THAT’S HER I THINK – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
ROSE CLIP – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
LIKER – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.
 
BATTLE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
AHERN - Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
ZUMARI – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Race 7: Hygain Release Class 1 H’cap – 1000m
 
Due to minimum weight issues, stewards accepted the explanation for late riders as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
 
BLAZON TALE – Stewards permitted S. Pawsy to ride the horse half a kilogram over his declared weight when no other rider was available. Slow to begin.
 
INDELICACY – Delayed the start when its saddle shifted enroute to the barriers, having to return to the saddling enclosure to be re-saddled. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
GOOD AS DONE – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Rider S. Wilson advised stewards following the event that he had injured his left knee in the incident.
 
BENTO – Slow to begin.  
 
NEAR THE CITY – Hampered near the 150m by another runner racing forward of it which became unbalanced.
 
PARK HUSSLER – Put in an awkward stride near the 150m, becoming unbalanced. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
DEACON BLACK – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Correct weight was delayed when stewards queried the 4th placegetter when the numbers
1 – 7 – 4 - 11 were semaphored by the Judge. Upon viewing the photo-finish, the Judge agreed that he had erred and reposted the numbers 1 – 7 – 4 -2. Stewards subsequently declared correct weight on those numbers.
