Race 1: Brown Brothers Moscato QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1300m

CRAIGLEA GALIO – As jockey R. McMahon was unable to make the weight, jockey C. Whitely was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jockey McMahon was fined $100. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and restrained from heels near the 1000m, then laid in for the majority of the race proving difficult to ride out.

MIRACLES APLENTY – Bega awkwardly.

JUEUN IN NEW YORK – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with another runner.

AETHERIUS – Began awkwardly and shifted in, making heavy contact with another runner.

Correct weight was delayed when jockey N. Day, rider of the 2nd placegetter, BATTLE, wished to view the film to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge an objection against AETHERIUS being declared the winner, alleging interference approaching the winning post. After viewing the film, connections of BATTLE lodged an objection against AETHERIUS being declared the winner, alleging interference near the winning post. After hearing evidence and viewing the film, it was established that approaching the winning post AETHERIUS shifted in, crowding and slightly brushing BATTLE, in considering the degree of interference Stewards subsequently dismissed that objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s semaphored number.

Jokic explained that the mare was dropping back in distance today from its previous runs and when unable to obtain  the lead, in her opinion, lost interest despite her efforts.  She further added that the horse would be better suited over longer distances than that of today’s race  when able to dictate on its own terms and front. Stewards noted the explanation.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
