GENERAL
 
Due to illness Jockey T Bannon was unable to fulfil her engagements and as such was advised a medical clearance would be required prior to her race riding again. Rider changes were made as per Stewards race day summary.
 
Race 1: TAB QTIS Two-Year-Old HANDICAP 1000m
 
ETERNAL BEAN - Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
STEPPING UP - Dwelt momentarily in the barriers before being hampered on jumping and shifting out. Raced greenly and wide throughout. Severely hampered, almost dislodging rider B Thomson, by CRAIGLEA SCHUMO which went amiss approaching the 400m. Took no further competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained a minor laceration to its chest in running.
 
SMART SPHERE - Hampered by CRAIGLEA SCHUMO which went amiss approaching the 400m.
 
CRAIGLEA SCHUMO - Faltered in its action approaching the 400m, shifted out hampering STEPPING UP and severely hampering SMART SPHERE, before dislodging rider Jockey A Sewell. A post-race veterinary examination found the filly to have sustained a catastrophic injury to its near hind leg and as such was humanely euthanised by the Veterinarian. Jockey Sewell declared himself fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.
 
Following the running of this event Stewards conducted a further inspection of the track from the 500m to the 400m and deemed the surface safe for racing.
 
Race 2: BROWN BROTHERS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m
 
CHAMPAGNE TILLY -The mare, which was resuming from an extended absence from racing, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Fractious in the barrier. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. Inconvenienced by another runner which was racing greenly passing the 200m.
 
OUR BOY BRETT - Slow to begin.
 
SON DINGO - Slow to begin. Hampered soon after jumping.
 
TICKET TO INDIA - Shifted in on jumping tightening runners to its inside. Raced wide throughout.
 
SMITHY’S HAMMER - Slowly away after beginning awkwardly. Inclined to race greenly throughout, shifted out under pressure passing the 200m inconveniencing another runner. Trainer D Amos was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
 
MAHKOTA ROSE - Bumped by another runner on jumping before being tightened for room and commencing to race keenly for a short distance. Raced wide throughout.
 
PEONY ROSE - Slow to begin.
 
HIDDEN CLASSIC - Raced wide throughout.
 
THE WAITERS EYE - Jockey A Sewell advised the gelding raced greenly. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
AWARE OF STYLE - Shifted in on jumping bumping with another runner. Raced wide for the majority.
 
Race 3: HAPPY NEW YEAR MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m
 
BLUMISS - The mare, which was resuming from an extended absence from racing, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
SENOR PIG - Required resaddling at the barriers. Raced wide in the early stages. Shifted in approaching the 800m crowding a runner to its inside. App K Swaffer was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Inconvenienced approaching the 200m when a runner to its outside shifted out after improving onto heels.
 
ALL BAR SURAH - Raced wide throughout.
 
MISS FUBULICIOUS - Buffeted between runners soon after jumping. Raced wide throughout.
 
BELFAST LASS - Began awkwardly. Raced wide early. Inclined to shift ground under pressure down the running. App M Potgieter advised that, in his opinion, the filly had not been comfortable in the rain affected going. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
DREAMING HIGH - Momentarily hampered by another runner which shifted in approaching the 800m. Crowded for room approaching the 200m having to be steadied.
 
LIGHTHEADEDNESS - Momentarily crowded approaching the 800m. Commenced to race keenly from that point until passing the 600m. Raced wide throughout.
 
FIRST SLIP - Loosened a hind plate that was unable to be refitted pre-race and as such raced unshod on both behind. Improved onto the heels of another runner and shifted wider approaching the 200m.
 
BLUMISS - Raced wide throughout.
 
PIQABOO - Bumped by another runner on jumping. Shifted in under pressure down the running crowding a runner to its inside. Jockey S Wilson was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident. Raced wide early.
 
WRONGLY ACCUSED - Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner.
 
Race 4: CARLTON UNITED BREWERIES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200m
 
TWO OF A KIND - Was declared a late scratching at 11:04am by order of Stewards after being found to have sustained lacerations to both hind pasterns in transit to the racecourse. Trainer P Cullen was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
STAR RAIDER - Slowly away after being hampered on jumping.
 
ALL STAR ROCKET - Shifted in on jumping. Commenced to race keenly for a short distance approaching the 1000m.
 
HARD MERCHANDISE - Raced wide throughout.
 
EPHESIAN - Slow to begin. Inconvenienced on jumping. Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running. Jockey D Smith was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 7 occasions, 2 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
 
HEMSTED - Slow to begin. Inconvenienced on jumping.
 
MISS CELITA - Shifted out on jumping hampering another runner.
 
SHUNTER - Slow to begin.
 
Following the running of this event Stewards upgraded the track rating to a Soft 7.
 
Race 5: COCA-COLA AMATIL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1609m
 
ARZANI - Slow to begin. Shifted wider from the 600m in an effort to improve, taking a runner to its outside wider.
 
CASURINA STAR - Slow to begin.
 
CLEO’S POET - Raced wide throughout.
 
NOBODY BETTER - Raced wide in the early stages. Taken wider by another runner passing the 600m.
 
LIVE THE MOMENT - Performed disappointingly, tiring noticeably over the concluding stages after sharing the lead. When questioned in relation to the performance Jockey A Butler advised that his instructions were to ride the gelding positively, however, in hindsight, he believed may have erred by not endeavouring to restrain and obtain cover in the early stages. Trainer G Holt confirmed that the instructions had been to be positive from the inside barrier and remain handy in the run. Mrs Holt added further that it would now be the intention to consider the immediate racing future of the gelding.
 
Race 6: LIVING TURF BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1000m
 
PERFECT KNOWLEDGE - Slow to begin before being buffeted between runners soon after jumping.
 
MISHANI REPRIMAND - Raced wide the majority.
 
GALAXY GHOST - Began awkwardly. Shifted in marginally approaching the 500m crowding a runner to its inside. Jockey W D’Avila was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
EL OF A SAGA - Raced wide the majority.
 
OUT CHIQUILLA - Raced wide the majority.
 
BUON NATALE - Crowded for room approaching the 500m when a runner to its outside shifted in marginally. Hung in the majority. Trainer S Royes was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
 
FINDLETON - Buffeted between runners on jumping. Finished tailed off.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
RAIN ON ME - Began awkwardly. Raced wide the majority.
 
Race 7: HOST YOUR FUNCTION AT CLUDEN BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1400m
 
WARRUMBUNGLE - Inconvenienced by a tiring runner on entering the home straight. Jockey F Edwards was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 7 occasions, 2 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
 
CRAIGLEA ARION - Inconvenienced by a tiring runner on entering the home straight.
 
NICE RETORT - Fractious in the barrier.
 
COUSIN MUSCLES - Inclined to lay in approaching the 1000m tightening runners to its inside. Raced wide throughout.
 
GRACIOUS GARCON - Inconvenienced by another runner which was inclined to lay in passing the 1000m.
 
INDIAN DANCER - Slow to begin. Inconvenienced by another runner which was inclined to lay in approaching the 1000m.
 
RED PHANTOM - Slow to begin.
 
STOLEN DIAMONDS - Raced wide throughout.
 
GRACEFUL ZARIFA - Performed disappointingly. Jockey B Thomson advised that after traveling comfortably to the 500m when the mare failed to respond when asked for an effort. Trainer M Mclellan advised he intends to remove the winkers from the mare for next start, and will also consider the mare’s immediate racing future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
