SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

SUNNY COWBOY- Trainer Mr T Rowe has since advised results from blood tests conducted on the gelding failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Mr Rowe further advised that, in his opinion, travelling long distances to race meetings detrimentally effects the gelding’s performance and as such he will seek to race it closer to his base in Cairns in future.

GENERAL

Stewards today inquired into the events surrounding Mr E Buonanova working as a stable hand whilst unlicensed for period of time. After taking evidence from Mr Buonanova and reviewing the evidence Stewards issued a charge under the provisions of LR7(e), and Mr Buonanova who subsequently pleaded guilty was fined the sum of $200. In determining penalty Stewards took into account Mr Buonanova’s guilty plea, his forthright evidence, the nature of the breach as well as relevant penalty precedents. Mr Buonanova was advised of his right to refer the matter to the Internal Reviewer.

Stewards today inquired into the events surrounding Mr R Fitzgerald working as a stable hand whilst unlicensed for a period of time. After taking evidence from Mr Fitzgerald and reviewing the evidence Stewards determined that Mr Fitzgerald’s becoming unlicensed was predominantly due to an administrative and clerical error. As such no further action was taken other than to remind Mr Fitzgerald of his obligations under LR7(e). The matter will be referred on to QRIC Licensing Department for review.

Whilst conducting inspections of participating Trainers race-day bags Stewards identified two discharged syringes in the possession of Trainer A Molino. At a subsequent inquiry Mr Molino, after providing an explanation of the circumstances surrounding the presence of the 2 items, pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR251(1)(b). Stewards, despite acknowledging the likely innocuous reason for presence of the items, fined Mr Molino the sum of $500. Mr Molino was advised of his right to an internal review.

Race 1: GRAPES OF MIRTH – COMEDY, WINE, PEOPLE QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE 1000m

KING JESTER - As Jockey Whiteley was delayed arriving on course Jockey B El-Issa was substituted as the rider of the gelding.

ILL GOTTEN GAIN - Was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12:39pm when found to be lame in the off foreleg. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on the gelding be refunded in full and further that all successful wagers placed on the event prior to the time of scratching be subject to deductions of 8 cents in the dollar win and 9 cents in the dollar place on the face value of the betting ticket. Trainer Mr R Baker was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to next race start.

ROTHGURL - Slow into stride. App E Cass was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR132(6)(c) for using the whip on a runner out of contention. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly had sustained a superficial mouth wound in running.

SUMMER OF GLORY - Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner.

CHOIR BOY - Inconvenienced soon after the start when tightened between runners. Raced wide throughout.

IT’S A PLOY - Became unbalanced after being bumped by another runner on jumping. Jockey S Sheargold, who pleaded guilty to a charge under the under the provisions of AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the finish of the race, which in the opinion of Stewards had cost IT’S A PLOY 4th placing, was fined the sum of $500. Jockey Sheargold was advised of his right to refer the matter to the Internal Reviewer.

SANTA MARINELLA - Bumped with another runner on jumping, becoming unbalanced and blundering as a result.

GOLDEN GROVE - Bumped with another runner on jumping.

Race 2: DIAGEO QTIS 2YO HANDICAP 1200m

IN HIS TIME - Began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping.

HUSSETTE - Began awkwardly. Inclined to over-race for a short distance after being crossed by another runner approaching the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained superficial wounds to both hind legs, consistent with having been galloped on in running.

WICKED DRAGON - Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping with another runner.

SHADOW SPIRIT - Bumped with another runner on jumping. Struggled to maintain contact with the field throughout and compounded in the home straight. Trainer T McGovern was advised the filly would be required to trial competitively prior to next race start.

PURPLE HAT - Bumped with another runner on jumping. Commenced to over-race in amongst runners passing the 1000m before shifting wider from the 800m.

WELL CHARRED - Jockey C Whiteley advised that when over-racing in a wide position approaching the 1000m he elected to allow his mount to stride forward in order to obtain a position outside the leader near the 800m.

JASMINE’S PRIDE - Blundered soon after the start. Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running. Jockey G Kliese, who reported the filly was inclined to race greenly in the home straight, was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out to the finish of the race.

Race 3: GORDON’S PINK GIN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m

TOSCAVALE ROAD – Was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.09pm after becoming fractious in the mounting yard and dislodging Jockey C Whiteley, before re-entering the race-day tie-ups area, where it lost its footing and fell, sustaining multiple abrasions to the near side of its body and legs. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on the gelding be refunded in full and further that all successful wagers placed on the event prior to the time of scratching be subject to deductions of:

17 cents place 2nd placegetter VIZONE
13 cents place 3rd placegetter RUN RAMPANT
Trainer Mr E Sewell was advised a veterinary clearance and satisfactory trial would be required prior to next race start.

BOLD SPICE - Bumped with another runner on jumping. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Ms G Holt, who undertook to advise Stewards should anything which may have had a bearing on the gelding’s performance come to light in coming days, indicated she will experiment with gear prior to next race start.

LA FURIOSO - Bumped with another runner on jumping. Inclined to shift in under pressure down the running hampering another runner near the 300m. Jockey S Wilson was reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a).

TROPICS - Shifted out and bumped with another runner after beginning awkwardly.

ALL BAR SURAH - Began awkwardly and was bumped by another runner. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Momentarily hampered by another runner which shifted in near the 300m. Raced wide for the majority.

RUN RAMPANT - Shifted wider to improve from the 500m. Jockey D Smith was placed at a disadvantage after dropping his near-side rein passing the 300m before regaining it a short distance later.

COKUM GIFT – Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Spry who undertook to advise Stewards should anything which may have had a bearing on the gelding’s performance come to light in coming days, indicated he intends to add blinkers to the gelding’s gear prior to next race start.

Race 4: BROWN BROTHERS OPEN HANDICAP 1200m

SWORD OF JUSTICE – Slowly away after beginning awkwardly. Commenced to lose ground passing the 300m, tiring noticeably over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

LAST CHANCE – Bumped with another runner near the 1150m.

SILENT EXPLORER - Bumped with another runner near the 1150m. Was inclined to race ungenerously when placed in restricted room for a short distance near the 1000m. Raced wide from the 500m.

RAIDEN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained an injury to its left eye in running.

Race 5: ENJOY ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET @ CLUDEN PARK BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1609m

TUTELAGE - Fractious in the barrier. Obliged to restrain and shift in when crowded by a runner to its outside approaching the 1400m. Inclined to over-race in the middle stages.

MYSTERY ‘N’ MAGIC - Slowly into stride.

FLASH FOX - Slowly into stride.

RICH PRINCESS - Raced in restricted room approaching the 1400m having to be restrained.

REBEL LAKE - Shifted in when not fully clear of runners to its inside approaching the 1400m. App M Potgieter was reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a).

OPINIONS - When racing keenly passing the 1200m shifted out and bumped another runner. Raced wide from the 1200m.

MBAPPE - Bumped by another runner passing the 1200m. Raced wide throughout.

BORELLA - Restrained off heels passing the 1200m. Became awkwardly placed on heels passing the 500m having to be steadied.

Race 6: CELEBRATE YOUR BIRTHDAY @ CLUDEN PARK BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200m

FUNKY MUSIC - Slowly into stride

GALAXY GHOST - Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Lost the nearside winker in the vicinity of the 400m.

KEIGHLEY SUN - Over-raced, having to be restrained when crossed by another runner passing the 950m. When racing in restricted room near the 100m Jockey A Sewell was unable to effectively use his whip for several strides due to the crowding.

LUSHAN - Restrained off heels near the 950m. Obliged to steady momentarily when placed in restricted room between runners near the 100m.

SHEPHERD OF FIRE - Shifted in passing the 950m hampering runners to its inside. Jockey S Wilson, who advised his mount had been inclined to lay in throughout, proving difficult to ride, was nonetheless advised to exercise more care in similar circumstance. Trainer Mr W Kenning was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

RIGEL - Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Inclined to over-race in the middle stages.

TAINTED AFFAIR - Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running.

WILLYGOOD - Shifted out around heels near the 100m to obtain clear running.

LIFETIME QUEST - Jockey C Spry was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 7 occasions, 2 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.

Race 7: EVENT SPACES FOR ALL OCCASIONS BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1400m

BEST HOFFA - Settled further forward than expected. App M Potgieter advised that his instructions had been to obtain a position with cover, if circumstances permitted, however when it became evident he was going to be caught in a wide position approaching the 1100m he elected to allow his mount to stride forward obtaining the lead leaving the 900m. Trainer Mr A Molino confirmed the instructions.

CINNAMON MISSILE - Slow to begin.

DUNATUN - Began awkwardly. Inclined to over-race approaching the 1000m.

JEMADAR - Began awkwardly shifting out hampering another runner.

MASONS CHANCE - Hampered by another runner after being slowly away.

GUANGZHOU - Slow to begin. Inclined to over-race passing the 1000m.

YANKEE TANGO - Raced wide for the majority.

FRATELLINO - Jockey D Simmons was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.

Race 8: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS 3YO HANDICAP 1200m

COURTING SARA - Declared a late scratching at 4:45pm on veterinary advice after being found to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer’s representative Mr R Ryan was advised a veterinary clearance is required prior to next race start. As on-course Bookmakers had not commenced betting on the event at the time of scratching no on-course deductions were applicable.

DEADLY DIVA – The filly which was fractious in transit underwent a veterinary examination soon after arriving on course and was passed fit to race. Tightened between runners on jumping, continuing to be buffeted for a short distance. Was inconvenienced near the 1000m when racing in restricted room.

CLEAVER GREENE – Shifted out on jumping. Shifted out under pressure down the running.

ROBIG – Shifted in on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.

WATERWAY – Tightened between runners on jumping. Was inconvenienced near the 1000m when racing in restricted room.

CAT IN THE RAINE – Laid out rounding the 1000m turn inconveniencing a runner to its outside. Raced ungenerously throughout. Trainer Mr D Amos was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners.

TENNESSEE BOY – Shifted out to avoid heels near the 1000m. Raced keenly in amongst runners in the middle stages. Finished off fairly. Jockey B Pengelly and Trainer R Chillemi were both of the opinion the 63kg impost was a telling factor in today’s performance.

BELLE ADELE – Began awkwardly. Laid in near the 1000m crowding runners to its inside. Raced ungenerously throughout. Trainer Mr R Baker was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners.

CRACKER ESSGEE - Shifted out under pressure down the running.
