Race 1: QUEENSLAND ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 870M

ARNWOOD – Bumped by another runner near the 800m. Laid out in the home straight. Jockey R. Goldsbury was reminded of her obligation to ride her mount out to the conclusion of the race. R. Goldsbury could offer no tangible explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance today. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse revealed no significant findings.

MISHANI COURAGE – Laid in in the home straight.

JAZZY’S ANGEL – Jockey N. Tomizawa was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out to the conclusion of the race.

MOCKING – Hung out for the majority.

RURAL REBEL – Bumped by another runner near the 800m.

TIGER LOVE – Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 2: THE BAVARIAN CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1110M

BETAJET – Steadied from heels near the 250m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery.

CHINCHINBILLA – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 800m and, as a result, had to be eased. Held up rounding the home turn. Had to be eased from heels after shifting in abruptly near the 300m. Held up for clear running over the concluding stages, and was unable to be fully tested.

ANGEL DANE – Slow to begin. Got its head up whilst being restrained from heels from the 600m to the 500m.

SPIRIT’S PRIDE – Began awkwardly, and then bumped heavily on jumping away. Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained approaching the 600m.

PROUD’S SEQUEL – Bumped heavily on jumping away. Bumped by another runner near the 600m.

SIZZLING SUN – Bumped by another runner near the 600m. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey N. Tomizawa explained that, in his opinion, the filly had to work hard from the outside barrier today and also raced greenly throughout. He added that over the concluding stages his mount was awkwardly placed between runners, and was inclined to lay in at that point. Stewards noted the explanation.

BLACKBERRY – Had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the home straight.

EVAMAC – Had difficulty obtaining clear running leaving the 300m.

LIPSTICK EFFECT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded from a Soft 5 to a Good 4.

Race 3: FURNEYS BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1875M

OCCHILUPO – Began awkwardly. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, Apprentice M. Wishart advised that after being caught 3 wide without cover in the early stages, she permitted the gelding to stride forward to obtain a position with cover near the 1000m. She added that her mount travelled comfortably throughout,  however when placed under pressure in the home straight it failed to respond to her riding. Stable representative, Mr. M, Currie, agreed that the performance was disappointing, and advised that he intends to speak with connections about sending the horse for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings.

FIRST STIMULUS – Steadied from heels near the 1300m. Held up for a short distance upon entering the home straight.

KEMSREY – Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 400m until the 200m.

MR MISUNDERSTOOD – Stewards questioned jockey K. Yoshida in relation to the tactics adopted and, in particular, the reason for him shifting out to a 3 wide position leaving the 1000m.  Jockey Yoshida explained that he had not been provided with any specific instructions, however as he had ridden the gelding at its most recent start, he was of the opinion that it is a one-paced horse and better suited to make a longer run. He went on to say that, for this reason, he elected to shift out to a 3 wide position and ride the gelding along leaving the 1000m. Stewards noted the explanation.

VELITES – Slow to begin.

TALAPUS – Raced keenly for some distance after being crossed by another runner near the 1500m.

Race 4: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1300M

STILL THE SAME – Raced wide without cover from leaving the 800m.

COUNTER MEAL – Trainer P. Butterworth was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.

JUST AS LOYAL – Slow to begin.

RED MAKO – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly for some distance after being crossed near the 1100m.

Race 5: COCA COLA AMATIL CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1000M

Upon arriving at the barriers SNEAKY SNIPER was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the request of its rider, and passed fit to start.

FIONNLAGH – Apprentice M. Wishart reported that her mount raced greenly in the early and middle stages.

GORESBRIDGE – Bumped heavily on jumping away, and again shortly after the start.

SNEAKY SNIPER – Bumped heavily on jumping away and, as a consequence, was tightened for room. Bumped heavily shortly after the start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn, and then commenced to lay in in the home straight.

YOUR OPTION – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier gate. Jockey L. Cheshire reported that her saddle shifted as a result of this incident which placed her at a disadvantage for the remainder.

Race 6: RAY BUNCH MACHINERY FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

RED MINI – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

SUPER FREAK – Began awkwardly. Held up entering the home straight.

DAISY’S APART – Trainer J. Gregory was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

MISS KATNISS – Declared a late scratching at 8.54am for veterinary reasons.

ROSES M’LADY – Slow to begin.

ZALIBRI – Began awkwardly.

DABKE – A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which weakened over the concluding stages, revealed no significant findings. When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, jockey R. Ride reported that, in her opinion, the horse is better suited to racing in the lead.  She added that her mount proved disappointing today when it was unable to obtain the lead and was obliged to race in a midfield position with cover. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 7: JOE WAGNER GROUP COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

The start of this race was delayed when FAIR SET, which reared over in the barriers, was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 9.06pm on veterinary advice. The start was further delayed when WEALTH’N’POWER, which was drawn in the adjoining barrier, was removed from the barriers, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on FAIR SET be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

18 cents in the dollar for the Win #4
24 cents in the dollar for place of winner #4
28 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3

A post-race veterinary examination of FAIR SET revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance and a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

LOVE RUSH – Slow to begin and was reluctant to stretch out and, as a result, lost considerable ground at the start. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings.

KING BART – Shifted out abruptly near the 50m and, as a result, took WEALTH’N’POWER wider on the track.
