GENERAL

Following persistent light rainfall after the scratching deadline, the track was downgraded from a Good 4 to a Soft 6 at 3.45pm.

Race 1: LYSAGHT ROOFING CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed to enable the broadcast of an interstate event.

EARL OF FORDYCE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

MAHARNI – Disappointed for a run leaving the 400m and was eased.

JUNCTION – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

HOUSE OF DRAMA – Made the home turn very wide.

PAT’S GIRL – Laid out rounding the home turn.

WINTER SONATA – When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, Apprentice N. Fazackerley advised that the mare did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race which, in his opinion, was due to the prevailing track conditions today. He added that in preparation for the race he had galloped the mare on the Tuesday 4 June 2019 where it worked well and, based on that work, he had expected a forward showing today. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities.

CLOCKWISE – Trainer T. Webb was fined $100 for the late declaration of N. Evans as rider. Jockey N. Evans accidentally dropped his whip passing the 100m.

Race 2: LYSAGHT ZENITH RANGE RATINGS BAND 0-58 H’CAP – 1625M

BRAD THE LAD – Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained in the early stages.

CASTLETON – When stepping up in distance today, the gelding overraced in the early stages and settled further forward than anticipated.

TISANI GREY – After being caught wide in the early stages, Apprentice N. Keal permitted his mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 1200m and, as a result, settled further forward than anticipated.

BEACH DRUM – Eased when placed in restricted room to the inside of CASTLETON (W. O’Connell) near the 1400m when that runner shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey W. O’Connell was reprimanded as a result of this incident. Held up rounding the home turn.

HENRY’S ON COURSE – Declared a late scratching at 3.58pm on veterinary advice.

WESTBROOK WARRIOR – Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight before being shifted out to obtain clear running.

OUR GRACIOUS DANE – Tightened for room and checked whilst rounding the home turn. W. O’Connell, the rider of CASTLETON, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift out whilst rounding the home turn when insufficiently clear of OUR GRACIOUS DANE which was tightened for room and checked. Jockey O’Connell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 15 June 2019 and expire at midnight on Sunday 23 June 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey O’Connell’s guilty plea and his prior good record in relation to this rule.

Following the running of this race, the track was downgraded from a Soft 6 to a Soft 7.

Race 3: NRG SERVICES BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1625M

No racing incidents.

Race 4: M&K GROUP/FAUX ELECTRICAL CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M

JUST FAVULOUS, which slipped over in the tie-up stall, was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the tie-up stall and again upon arriving at the barriers. The gelding was passed fit to start.

JUST FAVULOUS – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

JUSTIFY – Raced wide without cover throughout. Apprentice B. Nothdurft could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding which he advised had commenced to weaken after travelling wide from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting an upper respiratory noise.

HEART OF KINGS – Became fractious in the barriers.

HARPAH’S JOY – After beginning only fairly, the mare shifted out abruptly shortly after the start and was reluctant to stretch out and, as a result, trailed the field throughout taking no competitive part in the race. The trainer’s representative, Mr. T. Pascoe, was advised that the mare must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming racing. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities.

YOUR OPTION – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

Race 5: WESTON KITCHENS & BATHROOMS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

GOTTA BE FIRST – Slow to begin. Shifted out to obtain clear running near the 300m and, in doing so, made contact with another runner.

SHY BOY – Raced 3 wide throughout. Bumped heavily on the hindquarters by another runner at the 300m.

ABOVE THE SKY – Whilst racing greenly near the 900m, the gelding was reluctant to hold its position between runners and lost ground, and then continued to lose ground and was reluctant to stretch out whilst continuing to race greenly. Made heavy contact with the running rail of its own accord near the 350m.

KASITA – Slow to begin. Got its head up whilst hanging out for a short distance near the 900m and, as a result, lost ground. Forced wider on the track near the 500m.

TISANI ROSE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.

ALAN ALAN STEVE – Forced wider on the track near the 500m when TISANI ROSE (Apprentice N. Keal) shifted out abruptly to secure clear running. In this incident, KASITA, which was racing to the outside of ALAN ALAN STEVE was also forced wider on the track. Apprentice N. Keal was reprimanded.

Race 6: MICK SUTTON CONCRETING MAIDEN H’CAP – 870M

JONDY DES – Slow to begin.

SILVAPLANA – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. Improved onto heels near the 200m and shifted to the inside to secure clear running. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

SWIFTLY MANGO – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

SPIRIT’S FIRST – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

BARCAROLE – Brushed by another runner on two occasions approaching and passing the 100m.

POMPOSITY – Tightened for room at the start. Laid out rounding the home turn and shifted wider on the track.

CUE CUE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Forced wider on the track by another runner rounding the home turn.

Race 7: TAB MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M

ASTRONOMY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

CONSTRUE – Subject to submissions from the C. Waller stable, a $100 fine will be imposed for the late declaration of M. Hellyer as rider. Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Held up badly at the heels of a tiring runner for some distance passing the 400m before clipping the heels of that runner approaching the 300m and blundering. Held up and unable to improve for a considerable distance passing the 300m. As a result of these incidents, the filly lost considerable ground and was not pressured by its rider over the concluding stages of the race.

FLIRTY MCCOY – Steadied to avoid heels whilst racing keenly near the 900m.

SPIRIT OF EDYN – Steadied to avoid heels whilst racing keenly near the 900m. Held up and unable to improve for a considerable distance leaving the 500m.
