MISS HOW LONG- Began awkwardly and as a consequence settled further back than anticipated. Commenced to race keenly near the 1500m and was then ridden forward by its rider to a position outside the leader near the 1300m. Near the 350m was steadied when runners either side shifted ground.

Race 2: BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1625 metres

PRIORITISE- Began awkwardly losing ground. After being caught wide in the early stages was ridden forward outside the leader near the 900m.

JUNCTION- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

SUPERGIANT (NZ)- Stewards questioned the stable representative and Jockey M McGillivray in relation to the below market expectation performance of SUPERGIANT (NZ). Jockey M McGillivray expressed disappointment in the performance of the gelding which he advised failed to travel from the 600m when asked to quicken. Mr McGillivray added that in his opinion the gelding may have resented the tongue tie. The stable representative advised that as the gelding was 3rd up from a spell today it had derived a fitness benefit from its previous 2 starts since returning from a spell. He added that based on this, plus the drop-in class for today’s event these were advantages for a forward showing and therefore was disappointed with its performance in today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.

ROSIE POSIE- Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

OKANAGAN MISS- Laid in in the home straight.

MURLESS (NZ)- Laid in in the home straight.

Race 3: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS Class 6 Plate 1200 metres

The start was delayed when LA JUMENT and MOONSHINE LADY proved difficult to load.

PIRACY- Stewards questioned App. A Patis in relation to her riding of the gelding near the 900m, where she elected to ride aggressively to maintain a position outside PIERIDAE, rather than allowing CATESBY, which was racing forward and to the outside of PIRACY to cross her mount when there appeared an opportunity to do so. App. Patis advised that after beginning only fairly, she rode aggressively from the barriers until a point near the 1000m to obtain a forward position. She added that from near the 1000m the gelding commenced to over race. She went onto say that near the 900m when CATESBY was racing forward and to the outside PIRACY she became concerned that should CATESBY cross at this point, it would have resulted in PIRACY becoming awkwardly placed at heels and difficult to control as a result of over racing. Having had the opportunity to review the Stewards patrol footage, App Patis agreed with Stewards that in the circumstances it would have been more advantageous to allow CATESBY to cross her mount at that point of the race, which would have allowed for a slower tempo to be set, which may have allowed her mount to finish the race off better. Whilst Stewards felt App. Patis erred in her riding at that point of the race, they did not feel her actions were culpable under the rules and therefore took no further action.

CATESBY- From a wide barrier was ridden aggressively in the early stages to obtain a forward position, however when unable to cross runners to his inside was forced to race 3 wide without cover throughout.

MANIAS- Raced 3 wide throughout. Steadied to avoid heels near the 500m.

MOONSHINE LADY- Bumped on jumping. Raced 3 wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PIERIDAE- Jockey B Nothdurft expressed disappointment in the performance of PIERIDAE which he advised weakened in the home straight, however jockey B. Nothdurft attributed this to pressure applied to the mare during the middle stages of the event.

CLOCKWISE- Began awkwardly bumping another runner. Disappointed for a run approaching the 100m and was forced to alter course inwards to secure clear running.

OH FIVE GLORY- Bumped heavily at the start. Raced keenly whilst being restrained in the early stages.

MAGIC CONQUEROR- When questioned in relation to the colt settling in a more forward position in todays event trainer K Schweida advised he issued no specific instructions to jockey L Cassidy however with the addition of pacifiers in todays event he had expected the colt to travel more genuinely in todays event than it had in its previous starts and for that reason was not overly surprised to see it settle in a more forward position. Jockey L Cassidy confirmed the instructions and advised that after beginning well he rode the colt along in the early stages and after being caught wide he allowed the colt to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 1400m. Stewards noted the explanation.

DOCTOR COSTELLO- Over raced and proved difficult to restrain in the early stages.

CALM SEEKER (NZ)- Slow to begin.

MISS CABARET- When questioned as to the below market expectation performance Jockey J Guthmann-Chester stated that in his opinion the filly travelled comfortably during the event however when asked to improve into the race at the 650m, after initially quickening, from the 400m then failed to run on as he expected and in his opinion proved disappointing. Post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be making an abnormal respiratory noise.
