GENERAL

As G. Geran was to be overweight in Races 5 and 6 today, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. G. Geran was fined $100. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Geran’s prior good record in relation to this rule.

Race 1: STEELE’S BAKERY & CAFE QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 800M

ACCUMULATED – Slow to begin. Dipped near the 700m and became awkward. Raced greenly in the home straight. Steadied from heels near the 300m.

SHAKUNI – Slow to muster early speed.

FAVOR OF GOD – Raced 3 wide for the majority.

Race 2: CAREY BROS MEATS/HYNES NEWSAGENCY CLASS 2 H’CAP – 800M

COMMANDEERING – Bumped by another runner on jumping away. Laid in in the home straight. Steadied from heels near the 50m.

FLIM FLAN MAN – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running until leaving the 200m.

MY LITTLE DIVA – Slow to begin.

ALLORAINE – Tightened for room on jumping away. Raced extremely wide without cover throughout. Steadied from heels approaching the 200m. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey N. Tomizawa advised that the filly failed to show its customary early speed and, as a result, was unable to cross the runners to its inside and was forced to race wide throughout. He added that, despite racing wide, the filly failed to run on as he had expected in the home straight and proved disappointing. He also advised that, in his opinion, the filly is much better suited when able to lead in its races. Trainer T. Sears also expressed disappointment in the performance, and advised that he will now review the horse’s current preparation, and may consider sending the filly for a spell. Stewards noted the explanations.  A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed no significant findings.

EXOTERICAL – Began awkwardly.

KARMA FORCE – Tightened for room on jumping away.

AVASA – Began awkwardly and bumped COMMANDEERING.

SIR BAM – Placed in restricted room and had to be steadied approaching the 800m when I’M FAVULOUS commenced to race keenly and shifted out marginally, and I DO CARE shifted in marginally. Steadied from heels leaving the 400m. Jockey B. Stewart could offer no tangible explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance. Trainer T. Dougall expressed some disappointment in the performance and advised that, in his opinion, the gelding was not suited to racing in restricted room whilst in a rearward position in the middle stages of the race. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings.

TURBO TEDDY – Bumped another runner near the 1100m.

I’M FAVULOUS – Checked from heels for a considerable distance whilst overracing in the middle stages.

STAR PAINTER – Bumped by another runner near the 1100m.

BELLBOY EXPRESS – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, the gelding settled in a rearward position. Laid out in the home straight. Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.

MASSIVE ATTACK – Raced keenly in the early stages, and raced wide throughout. Forced wider on the track by another running rounding the home turn.

Race 7: FREESTONE FEEDLOT MM COUNTRY CUP QUALIFIER OPEN H’CAP – 1200M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether there were grounds for an objection to be lodged on behalf of the connections of the 3rd placegetter, ALL IMPORTANT, against TYCOON ACE being placed second. After viewing the patrol footage Stewards could not be satisfied that an objection should be lodged, and therefore declared correct weight on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

TYCOON ACE – Dipped shortly after the start.

BROTHERLY SECRET – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer S. Edmonds regarding the late declaration of G. Geran as rider. Began awkwardly.
