GENERAL

Due to prevailing weather conditions, Stewards permitted the late scratching of a number of runners as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Due to further rainfall after the scratching deadline, the track was downgraded from a Soft 5 to a Heavy 8 at 11.00am.

As J. Grob was not attending the meeting today, a riding replacement was made in Race 6 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: GROSS WHOLESALE MEATS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M

HALEIGHOZAE – Slow into stride. Raced ungenerously from the 900m.

MYKISS FROMA ROSE – Hung out near the 700m and then raced wide for the remainder.

SNOWY RIVER – Began awkwardly. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey T. Marshall advised that the gelding jumped only fairly, and did not travel at any stage of the race. He added that, in his opinion, the horse would appreciate a step up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities.

TOP TINKA – Shifted out shortly after the start and bumped MASSIE WHISPER. Momentarily tightened for room and eased near the 500m.

REEF ISLAND – Tightened for room on jumping away.

Race 3: WARWICK VET CLINIC CELEBRATING 70 YEARS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M

The start of this race was initially delayed to enable the broadcast of an interstate event. The start was further delayed when the tongue-tie on HE’S NOT FOCUSED had to be adjusted. The start was then further delayed when a number of runners proved difficult to load.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards permitted Apprentice M. Shimodaira, the rider of 5th placegetter MORGAUSE, to view the photo finish print for 4th. After viewing the photo, Apprentice Shimodaira was satisfied with the judge’s semaphored numbers.

HE’S NOT FOCUSED – Proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers and was then difficult to load. Trainer S. Hardy was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s pre-race manners. Tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

NULLADANE – Hung out from the 900m and, as a result, clipped heels and blundered near the 800m. Hung out for the remainder of the race. Trainer M. Boland was advised that the horse must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming racing.

10 cents in the dollar for the win #4
12 cents in the dollar for place of winner #4
13 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #13
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #12

Connections were advised that the horse must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming racing.

EXCELEBRAZIONE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped another runner. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the disappointing performance, jockey T. Marshall advised that from leaving the 600m when placed under pressure, the gelding failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. He added that, in his opinion, the gelding did not handle the track surface today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia.
