Commenced to overrace passing the 1000m and approaching the 800m, when being crossed by PRINCE OF TIE, had to be restrained from the heels of that runner. Apprentice J. Murphy, the rider of PRINCE OF TIE, was advised to provide greater clearance when shifting ground. When asked to explain the horse’s disappointing performance, jockey R. Maloney stated that the gelding pulled hard during the race and was inclined to hang in, which in his view had a bearing on the manner in which the horse finished the race off.
