Stewards Report
Atherton Turf Club
Saturday 19th February 2000

Weather – Fine Track – Dead

Stewards: S. Abell (Chairman), B. Gray and J. Steele (cadet).

Race 1: MALANDA HOTEL MAIDEN HANDICAP 900Metres (4 STARTERS)
SPEEDINGLY jumped away awkwardly. MZILIKAZI eased to avoid the heels of SPEEDINGLY at the 800m position.

Race 2: CENTRAL TYRE SERVICES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200M (4 STARTERS)
Jockey G. Philpot, rider of DOUBLE FOOTSTEPS reported to the stewards on return to scale that in his opinion, the gates on his barrier had opened prematurely and anticipating a false start he had restrained his mount, thereby losing ground. After taking evidence from G. Philpot, trainer A. Bailey and starter K. Moody and viewing the patrol film, the stewards were of the opinion that any inconvenience suffered by DOUBLE FOOTSTEPS was not the result of a malfunction of the starting stalls, and the gelding was declared a runner. KING INN drifted out after the start and made contact with SECRET SANCTION.

Race 3: RAINTREES EQUESTRIAN SUPPLIES & FEED MERCHANTS CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1200M (5 STARTERS)
CHAPPEL AVENUE jumped away awkwardly.

Race 4: HARKER TRANSPORT SERVICES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000M (4 STARTERS)
MISS GODIVA was fractious in the barriers and was marginally slow into galloping action.

Race 5: RICHARDSON AND WRENCH MALANDA CUP WEIGHT FOR AGE 1000M (7 STARTERS)
Heavy rain fell prior to the start and throughout the running of this race. TALLOWOOD PARK was fractious at the start. Although a previous warning regarding the geldings’ barrier behaviour was recorded, the stewards took no further action, holding the adverse weather conditions, which was unsettling to other starters, instrumental to the geldings’ behaviour. VAIN’S GHOST slipped and knuckled over at the start. LOGGER BOY shifted out after the start and made contact with VAIN’S GHOST.

Five winners were swabbed.
